Situated between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, Forty Niner Country Club runs alongside a wooded riverbed. The golf course features fairways lined with mesquites, giant cottonwoods, eucalyptus trees, and weeping willows. Desert shrubbery also lines the fairways. The course has a traditional layout that sprawls across gently rolling terrain. It's a nice walkable golf course but it's not easy. Rather than distance, this course requires accurate shot placement and careful strategy in order to maneuver the tricky doglegs and subtly elevated greens. The most difficult hole on the course comes early on. The par-4 fifth is an only seemingly narrow hole but the double-tiered green has a dramatic slope right in the center. Forty Niner Country Club finishes with a par 3 that requires a carry over water. If played smartly, it offers a great birdie opportunity.

Reasonable Price Means Slow Play

The afternoon price break made the cost very reasonable but the place was jammed (4 groups on a par 3). We asked to play the back 9 thinking it would be quicker but were denied that opportunity. I know the course and neighborhood very well so when we got bogged down on the front 9 we drove to the back and found a perfect gap. Wonderful weather and no waiting on shots. Greens were crispy - no grass - but fairways OK. The weather has been tough on the grass this winter. Would do it again but probably not on a holiday.

Best value in Eastern Tucson

Beautiful setting and affordable golf. I checked the Loews course up the road and they wanted $235 to play. Well worth the trip 15 minutes away to play this course. Friendly staff, beautiful scenery and challenging course. Real bonus is to hit restaurant for $10 Cheeseburger and fry happy hour deal.

Great course!

We play this course often , one of our favorites. We got to hole number 9 on Monday when the rain started. We sat in the cart barn for about 20 minutes, then went into the pro shop, checked the radar, looked as if the rain had sat in for the day. My question is, why weren’t we offered a nine hole rain check?

Nice course

We finished the 9th hole just as it began to rain. Waited in the cart barn for about 20 minutes, rain continued. Went into the pro shop, he checked the radar weather, looked as if the rain had set in for the day. Our question was why weren’t we offered a rain check for nine holes?
