Forty-Niner Country Club

About
Situated between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, Forty Niner Country Club runs alongside a wooded riverbed. The golf course features fairways lined with mesquites, giant cottonwoods, eucalyptus trees, and weeping willows. Desert shrubbery also lines the fairways. The course has a traditional layout that sprawls across gently rolling terrain. It's a nice walkable golf course but it's not easy. Rather than distance, this course requires accurate shot placement and careful strategy in order to maneuver the tricky doglegs and subtly elevated greens. The most difficult hole on the course comes early on. The par-4 fifth is an only seemingly narrow hole but the double-tiered green has a dramatic slope right in the center. Forty Niner Country Club finishes with a par 3 that requires a carry over water. If played smartly, it offers a great birdie opportunity.

Love this place!
The course was in pretty good shape. They were doing some repairs to areas throughout the course, but overall was nice. Love the large old trees and homes along the course. That’s why I keep going back.
Love this course
Love this course as it winds through the trees and desert.
Spring Conditions (rough)
Thin grass, greens splotchy (early season blues).
Great pace, fun layout. Overall, decent gold.
Enjoyable Course
This is a beautiful wooded desert course. The layout of the holes requires you to cross and, in some cases, drive on the neighborhood roads. It's not bad, because it is a very nice neighborhood with very little traffic on the day we played. The rough is not necessarily taller or thicker grass, but very bumpy, a different kind of rough. I,would like to see more of a difference between fairway grass and the grass cut in the rough. Other than that, it was a very enjoyable round.
Fun Course in Tucson
Played a Birthday round at the Forty Niner. Fun course with great views. Well maintained course. Would definitely recommend playing a round here.
Really fun course but the greens were rock hard
I really enjoy this course and love how it plays. The layout is amazing and offers a lot of challenges. I really like that the holes aren’t all just straight as an arrow par 4 or 5 holes. The fairways were in decent condition and there were areas that they were actively repairing. The tee boxes were in good shape for the most part, but some were rock hard or sandy. The greens are the reason for my 4 star review. The greens were rock hard, so you could hit the front and the ball would bounce off the back. If that could soften the greens up some then this course would be way better. They were also actively doing patch work on several of the greens, so I know maintenance and upkeep is a top priority for them.
Great course!
Moderate challenge for beginners since most holes have houses on either side, but fairways are wide and will give you some wiggle room. One of the most kick back courses in Tucson.
Great layout…
Had a wonderful time playing this course. Some great views and challenging holes. The greens could use some TLC but overall good experience.
Good value
The course is a good value, however, the greens are not in good condition.
Hard Greens and even harder bunkers.
Not sure what was going on with the setup but the greens were rock hard (I literally threw a golf ball as hard as I could at the ground to test this and it didn't even leave a mark) and while there is grass in the greens, they mowed it so short that once you started a putt, it didn't stop. If you hit a ball in a bunker you are better off taking it out and playing a shot from behind it because there is about an inch of super coarse sand (basically pebbles) and then a layer that feels like concrete. So unless you feel like making unwanted lie angle changes to your wedges or a potential wrist injury, it's not worth it to play out of them.
