Forty-Niner Country Club
About
Situated between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, Forty Niner Country Club runs alongside a wooded riverbed. The golf course features fairways lined with mesquites, giant cottonwoods, eucalyptus trees, and weeping willows. Desert shrubbery also lines the fairways. The course has a traditional layout that sprawls across gently rolling terrain. It's a nice walkable golf course but it's not easy. Rather than distance, this course requires accurate shot placement and careful strategy in order to maneuver the tricky doglegs and subtly elevated greens. The most difficult hole on the course comes early on. The par-4 fifth is an only seemingly narrow hole but the double-tiered green has a dramatic slope right in the center. Forty Niner Country Club finishes with a par 3 that requires a carry over water. If played smartly, it offers a great birdie opportunity.

The course was a little busy but this is to be expected on a Sunday, the staff tried to keep slower groups moving and we felt they did a great job.
We will be going back again for sure
Great course and friendly people
Such a pretty course, and the new cart paths and improved fairways make it even better. Always a pleasure to play here.
Good course
The tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in good shape. The rough off of the fairways is minimal with a lot of hard pan/dirt. You got to hit fairways. Overall nice course for the price.
Too many traps and elevated greens
Very dry hard tee boxes
Ok layout but in bad shape
Greens very hard and not great turf, Tees and Fairways ok...staff friendly...price in line for area...
Good value for the money
This course is a good value for the money. It has a nice practice area for chipping/putting and the staff is SUPER friendly. The overseeded fairways are very nice, but the rough is mostly bare - not even dormant bermuda.
Tight but fair fairways
The course is relatively "meh" and not real long but the tight fairways make the challenge entertaining. Having an on course marshall to keep the pace of play moving along would be a benefit when the course is full.
Great course
The layout and scenic Western setting are outstanding. Staff is friendly and well-organized and it’s always an interesting course to play. The new cart paths and improved fairways are great, too.
Pace of Play
We like the course and will play again, however, today a group was holding up at least 3 groups behind them without letting anyone play through.
They were 3 men playing ahead of my wife and I (12:09 T Time) on the front nine and 2 of the 3 on the back nine.
They were and fairly short hitters, but would wait until the group ahead of them was on the green before teeing off. There was never any chance they would interfer with the group in front.
On top of that:
1. They would play 2nd balls if their first balls weren't good shots. (Might have been a father/son on the back nine?)
2. They knew they were holding people up, but took way too long on the greens....walking around looking at angles, talking to each other about the shots, etc, etc.
At 4:35 playing time by hole 15, my wife and I left.
I kept hoping a marshaler would come by, but we didn't see one.
Brooklyn player
Course in great condition, tee boxes plush. Greens tho were impossible to regularly two put ,domed and sloped too much- stay beneath the pin on approach or you will 3 putt
49er course doesn’t strike gold
The course was in average shape for the time of year and the amount of rain, but the fairways were extremely narrow. I believe this was due to the desire to conserve water, but in some places the width of the patch of grass wasn’t much larger than a throw rug.
The pace of play was extremely slow. This was partly due to the day we played, Sunday, but also the fact that the tee times are only spaced 8 minutes apart. Additionally, they let two singles play individually while surrounded by foursomes. Overall, the course has some interesting and fun holes, but the frustratingly slow pace of play, and the Mohawk fairways, significantly diminished the overall enjoyment.
Greens and such
If putting down hill it was extremely hard to judge the correct speed. just when you thought you could read the break there was none. Extremely hard to hold the green from any kind of distance, If you like dog legs left this is your place! Now that I seen it would like to play it again.
Five hour round
5:15
Tee times every 8 minutes
Outing in front of big party.
Way too slow
Pace of play very slow. Sadly when this happens other things take a back seat like course conditions , staff, etc. Greens hard and fast. Very windy and if you had a downhill , downwind putt forget it. I had some putts roll up to hole and then roll back past where I started putt from. Pin sitters need to understand pin placement can cause slower play.
