Situated between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, Forty Niner Country Club runs alongside a wooded riverbed. The golf course features fairways lined with mesquites, giant cottonwoods, eucalyptus trees, and weeping willows. Desert shrubbery also lines the fairways. The course has a traditional layout that sprawls across gently rolling terrain. It's a nice walkable golf course but it's not easy. Rather than distance, this course requires accurate shot placement and careful strategy in order to maneuver the tricky doglegs and subtly elevated greens. The most difficult hole on the course comes early on. The par-4 fifth is an only seemingly narrow hole but the double-tiered green has a dramatic slope right in the center. Forty Niner Country Club finishes with a par 3 that requires a carry over water. If played smartly, it offers a great birdie opportunity.

OK, but golf experience could be improved with small measures

Good greens and fairways conditions. Seemed to need attention and TLC elsewhere on the course property. Sloooww groups made for lots of waiting, on every shot, for which a skilled golf course Ranger could help all of us patiently waiting behind. .

Stayed for dinner - good food and service in the restaurant..

Great course

We were a bit late to tee off , because they had a skins game ahead of us. But surprisingly the pace was good . We had to wait at a few holes but not too long . Would play this course again.

Nice Day

From the moment I arrived and Kenny set me up with the cart, it was a wonderful December day on the golf course. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the trees were glistening in the breeze. My score sucked but not being a professional, I can't be angry as I'm really not that good. We kept up with the group in front and shared a lot of laughter as a group of an Alaskan, a Canadian and a Japanese visitor visiting from Houston. We left the course very happy for the opportunity to meet a couple new people doing something that we all enjoyed. Thank you 49r for the opportunity.

PS. I won the Most Improved Trophy from front to back had there been one.

Pack a lunch

Although I really enjoy this course and the green fees are very reasonable, the pace of play is so unbelievably slow here. Every time I go, the starter gets me out before my tee time. However, without fail, I'll catch up to a bottleneck within 4 holes. I often play 75% of the course watching 2-3 groups in front of me or backed up 2 groups at the tee box. I understand that there are a lot of varying levels of skill, age and mobility that play here but the consistent backups are getting out of hand.
