Situated between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, Forty Niner Country Club runs alongside a wooded riverbed. The golf course features fairways lined with mesquites, giant cottonwoods, eucalyptus trees, and weeping willows. Desert shrubbery also lines the fairways. The course has a traditional layout that sprawls across gently rolling terrain. It's a nice walkable golf course but it's not easy. Rather than distance, this course requires accurate shot placement and careful strategy in order to maneuver the tricky doglegs and subtly elevated greens. The most difficult hole on the course comes early on. The par-4 fifth is an only seemingly narrow hole but the double-tiered green has a dramatic slope right in the center. Forty Niner Country Club finishes with a par 3 that requires a carry over water. If played smartly, it offers a great birdie opportunity.

Pretty decent

Cool course it was just in slightly rough shape when I played it was pretty dry but I just think it was them putting in new grass so I wasn’t bothered too much by it and the price was right for the conditions so overall I enjoyed it. The greens were a little rough especially on hole 10 it was basically just sand but other than that not too bad.

Challenging course

We enjoyed this course very much. We live in Casa Grande but it was worth the drive.

In transition

The course is in transition from winter rye to Bermuda. It was playable but a lot of brown and bare spots on the fairways.

Drying out

Although some overwatered spots, this course is drying out. An unfortunate occurrence at many Tucson layouts. The best part were the greens, which putted well. Personnel are friendly and maybe will improve as Bermuda gets in summer shape. Lots of shade helps lower temperatures.

Went for a drive on a golf cart and got to play too!

My daughter needed a chance to try driving before I put her behind the wheel of a car, so I took her with me while I golfed! She drove the cart and I played. We both had a great time! The cart paths were well maintained and the few times we went on the grass with the cart, it went well. I highly recommend this as a precursor to drivers ed!

Rough, chopped up fairways

Greens were excellent, bunkers were rocky, not sandy. Fairways were in need of some serious work.

Course is horrible

They must be paying other people to leave positive reviews. They no longer water or mow the grass. You Can’t get a tee into the ground on the tee boxes and the greens are bald with dead grass. If I wanted to play on Dirt I would go play Fred Enke
