About
Situated between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, Forty Niner Country Club runs alongside a wooded riverbed. The golf course features fairways lined with mesquites, giant cottonwoods, eucalyptus trees, and weeping willows. Desert shrubbery also lines the fairways. The course has a traditional layout that sprawls across gently rolling terrain. It's a nice walkable golf course but it's not easy. Rather than distance, this course requires accurate shot placement and careful strategy in order to maneuver the tricky doglegs and subtly elevated greens. The most difficult hole on the course comes early on. The par-4 fifth is an only seemingly narrow hole but the double-tiered green has a dramatic slope right in the center. Forty Niner Country Club finishes with a par 3 that requires a carry over water. If played smartly, it offers a great birdie opportunity.

Pace of play.
4 hrs and 48 minutes is not acceptable. No ranger was seen. The 4 some 2 groups ahead had open holes in front of them and could have cared less. Frustrating day!
Personal assessment
I played this course 25 years ago, it was much better back then. The starter was the bright spot of the round. He was very friendly and joked around a lot. Truly a great guy. Layout of course was nice but fairway conditions and greens were terrible. Would not play it again
The course was not in great shape. Worst it has been since started playing. Play is always slow.
Flat layout. Easy to walk for most golfers.
I have played Forty Niner numerous times over the last 20 years. The course conditions have basically been the same., and the golf carts have been updated. Nice staff and good restaurant.
It's okay..
The conditions of this course were pretty mediocre. A lot of the teeboxes need to be mowed. I shouldn't get a flyer from the teebox. Hard to hit a 3 wood from the back tee on 6 when it's thick tall rough. Had to hit driver. Cups on the green have a plastic spacer above the bottom that seem to make the ball lip out easier, very frustrating. Overall I had fun, but the course needs some love.
Much Improved
Course in much better overall condition than the last time my wife and I played there. While some of the over seeding in the fairways was sparse, the greens rolled true and the tee boxes were in fair to good condition.

Don't listen to negative reviews. We had a great afternoon of golf. $30.00 on line. Nice restaurant and staff. Everything a golfer wants.
Bad Fairways
The fairways on this course are basically dirt. They must have some blight or do not water enough, Tee boxes are uneven, Greens are acceptable
Nice course green need help
I love the lay out tee boxs great condution . Bunkers good except water (maybe put that water on green ) . Green hard as cement fast ,but over all had great time was slow but sometimes slow is good.

Love this course but SO slow this time of year! (I just finished my second Five hr round here in the past ten days)!
Great layout and environment.
Greens not great but probably best they will be all year.
