Situated between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, Forty Niner Country Club runs alongside a wooded riverbed. The golf course features fairways lined with mesquites, giant cottonwoods, eucalyptus trees, and weeping willows. Desert shrubbery also lines the fairways. The course has a traditional layout that sprawls across gently rolling terrain. It's a nice walkable golf course but it's not easy. Rather than distance, this course requires accurate shot placement and careful strategy in order to maneuver the tricky doglegs and subtly elevated greens. The most difficult hole on the course comes early on. The par-4 fifth is an only seemingly narrow hole but the double-tiered green has a dramatic slope right in the center. Forty Niner Country Club finishes with a par 3 that requires a carry over water. If played smartly, it offers a great birdie opportunity.

A great place to be out of doors

As you line up to hit a shot, you see the Catalina Mountains in the background and on another hole you see the Rincon Mountains. Very peaceful.

Sand traps needed sand and the tee boxes should be aerated. The course was well laid out with a feel of privacy.

Disappointing

I have always enjoyed playing forty niner. I really like the layout thru the mesquite trees. The course however needed some work. Most of the fairways had very little grass and the tees were not in much better shape. As far as the greens were concerned, they were playable unless you were putting downhill to a front pin location. I think the application of a little water would go a long way towards enhancing a better playing experience.

Rusty when it's so gusty

The constant wind with severe gusts made this round more challenging than usual. Good thing there was nothing on the line except my pride!:) Not having played in such windy conditions except maybe twice before, I found myself guessing whether my club selection should be one, two, and at times, even three clubs different from usual. I still had fun trying to navigate this added challenge realizing that I would need much more practice doing so in order to score better.

Love 49'ers

This last time I was there they were really running people through the course but the timing wasn't bad and all the people playing were nice. We were back to back but that's efficient. The weather was great! The drinks were great! the ball cleaning stations were filled and clean. The course is easy enough for a beginner so it was just a nice relaxing day.

Great Course

We are recreational golfers and appreciated that we were not pushed or encouraged to pick up the pace. All foursomes ahead and behind us were golfing at the same pace. Perfect course for the price.

Very pleasant afternoon game.

It’s easy to be critical so the following is mentioned in a positive manner. The course looks like it is getting plenty of use, tee areas particularly are getting beat up. Tees on the front nine were very hard, difficult to get tees in, no doubt holding back on watering hoping for rain.. the same could be said for most of the fairways . Fairway quality in landing area and around greens were contaminated with other grasses giving a lumpy inconsistent surface that made clean striking of the ball difficult. The playing fee at the course I think reflect the quality of the experience. I am always happy to play this course.

Older parkland course w class

A little worn around the edges, but a great fun to play layout. Tees, fairways good, greens domed, hard and quick. A little out of the way but worth the trip.

Don’t expect the Ritz.

Greens were consistent. Grass around greens was good. Some fairways were in good shape, some not so good . The overseeding was sparse. Play moved right along. Priced reasonably for the afternoon times. Just don’t expect the Ritz.

Nice layout, staff friendly.

Had frost delay so a bit late starting - understandable. Group in front very slow. 5 hour round - hard to get a rhythm going.
