Forty-Niner Country Club
About
Situated between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, Forty Niner Country Club runs alongside a wooded riverbed. The golf course features fairways lined with mesquites, giant cottonwoods, eucalyptus trees, and weeping willows. Desert shrubbery also lines the fairways. The course has a traditional layout that sprawls across gently rolling terrain. It's a nice walkable golf course but it's not easy. Rather than distance, this course requires accurate shot placement and careful strategy in order to maneuver the tricky doglegs and subtly elevated greens. The most difficult hole on the course comes early on. The par-4 fifth is an only seemingly narrow hole but the double-tiered green has a dramatic slope right in the center. Forty Niner Country Club finishes with a par 3 that requires a carry over water. If played smartly, it offers a great birdie opportunity.

Poor Course
We have played this course numerous times and have always enjoyed it. This time was very different. The course was in absolute horrible shape. We lost more balls down the center of the fairway than we did if we missed the fairway. I lost 3 balls in the fairway, my playing partner lost 3, and our 3rd lost a cpl as well. All were straight dow the fairway. We couldnt find them due to the fairway being overrun with tall grass and weeds. The tee boxes were horrendous. Most of the greens we in poor shape with a lot of bare spots. Some tee boxes were so hard you couldn,t even get a tee in the ground, others were just bare dirt. If I wanted to play a course this bad I would play a city course. We played Enke last week and it wasnt even this bad. Plus they had a huge amount of rain to deal with. When I brought this to the attention of the person in the clubhouse I was told "we have 2 mowers down"..... thats it, nothing else. Well if I knew I had 2 mowers down and the weekend is coming up, I know I have 3 choices. 1. Make sure the mowers I have are fixed and mow the dang course. 2. If the ones I have can't be fixed in time then I buy some more and mow the dang course. 3. I close the course or lower the price so as to not charge people for a very poorly maintained golf course and give them some value for their time and money. All in all, we will not be back until we know the course is better and back up to the expectations that you have set for yourself as a Country Club course.
Lots of grass, from the rain.
....but the grass was not where it was needed. Maybe because we played on a Thursday, it was not mowed. And it was patchy and uneven, especially the tee ground. The beverage cart came around at least three times, maybe four' she was on the ball. The front desk had us go off as soon as we checking in; it was not busy. I would give the course time to 'heal' from the monsoons before I played here again.
Home Owners Ought to be Concerned
Layout and views are incredible, but the condition of the course leads me to believe there are serious financial issues. If I owned one of those beautiful homes on the course I would be very worried. Maintenance is minimal at best.
Love the 49er!
Conditions on the course were a bit rough, but we enjoyed our day. We have lived in the Tucson area for about a year now, and we are discovering how much the conditions of ALL of the courses change during the summer season. There is only so much maintenance crews can do. Thankfully green fees are altered accordingly, and we are able to enjoy our favorite pastime together year round. The 49er is one of our favorite courses. The staff is very helpful and friendly and we will be back in the near future. Thank You 49er!
Pace of play.
Very amateur Marshal had a foursome in front of us that were playing so slow they thought they were the only ones on the course.Brought it to the attention of the Marshall and he gave it no attention said hey they all paid and we should have more patience,we left after Nine holes which took 3hours.Won’t recommend or be playing there again any time soon.
Bad day of golf is still better than a good day at work

Horrific course conditions
From tee Box, fairways and greens everything was in terrible shape. Not a good place to play right now. Not even for the on line prices.
Horrible condition
Course is in almost unplayable condition. Not worth playing right now. 7/10/21
Needs work
The greens were in good shape but very slow, there is a lot of bare and burnt out spots all over the fairways and around the greens. The tee boxes were burnt out and grassless in some cases.
Poor Conditions
No starter.
Recycled sprinklers turned on 3 different holes.
Slow Players 2 groups ahead of my twosome not allowing play through.
Women's tee boxes are terrible.
Otherwise I love this course.
Horrible fairways
I’ve played this course many time and this was by far the worst conditions I’ve seen there. The greens, for the most part, were very good. However, the fairways, tees and bunkers were awful. They seem to be losing the battle on keeping the fairways playable.
