About

Rating 73.7

The Club at Starr Pass offers 27 holes of championship golf that have been host to legends such as Arnold Palmer and Phil Mickelson. The holes are divided into three nines that are played in three different 18-hole combinations. One of these combinations is Coyote/Roadrunner. Coyote is the club's signature course and while the Roadrunner nine might be the shortest, it has plenty of elevation changes. Both golf courses are carved from the scenic Tucson Mountains, providing golfers with a diverse landscape that is abundant with jackrabbits, quail, and deer. In addition to the three nines, there is also a double-loaded driving range and a practice area with putting and chipping greens.

love this course

Play here once per year on our visit to Tucson. Maybe getting a little too old for this tract. Lots of walking to and from green complexes.

Course in good shape

Tee boxes, fairways (when I found them), bunkers & greens all in great shape. Course can be very challenging, but fair, depending on the tee boxes you choose. Price is a bit steep unless you can find a deal. Would recommend highly for intermediate to advanced golfers.

Greens

Great layout. They change course layout and personal GPS doesn't know. Greens are painted and bumping as they had sand in bad spots.

Beautiful course

We were a foursome and played the Palmer course 9 holes. The course has been redone and a few holes have been switched between the 27 holes available. Our Garmin watches were not updated to this change so that was confusing. The GPS’s in the carts were accurate. A problem occurred with one of the carts as it would shutdown if taken off the cart path forcing us to drive backwards to get onto all fairways.

Great Layout

We played Rattler/Coyote, never played here before, so a number of Tee shots didn’t know where we were going. Quite picturesque from some holes looking out into the Tucson valley. I rated everything the way we experienced it, but there were three holes on Coyote that had patched greens and as usual i had to putt over them. That’s my only complaint. There could have been better on course amenities also, most resort courses we play offer coolers every 3-4 holes with iced bottle water or fresh apples. The rates are a little high for what it is though.

Another Great Tucson Gem

Played this former PGA Tour course for under $100. Try finding that on a quality desert course in Scottsdale! Tucson generally has the best bang for your buck in Arizona. And Starr Pass is another example.

Greens were tour speed. Measured 12-13 on my stimpmeter and rolled true. Great course conditions. Layout is challenging and fun. Nice facilities at the clubhouse. Good grass practice range and putting green matched those on the course.

Pace of play could vary due to the difficulty of the course. Especially the first time you play it and aren't sure of your aim lines off the tee.
