Rating 73.7

The Club at Starr Pass offers 27 holes of championship golf that have been host to legends such as Arnold Palmer and Phil Mickelson. The holes are divided into three nines that are played in three different 18-hole combinations. One of these combinations is Coyote/Roadrunner. Coyote is the club's signature course and while the Roadrunner nine might be the shortest, it has plenty of elevation changes. Both golf courses are carved from the scenic Tucson Mountains, providing golfers with a diverse landscape that is abundant with jackrabbits, quail, and deer. In addition to the three nines, there is also a double-loaded driving range and a practice area with putting and chipping greens.

Starr Pass for old people

The course is excellent. The pro shop staff and starter were very friendly and helpful. The course is very challenging for handicaps above 10, meaning golfers who shoot greater than 84 or so. There are numerous desert waste areas at the sides of all holes and sometimes across the hole. Carries of greater than 120 yards are necessary. There are a lot of elevation changes. This means an errand shot is penalized severely, often resulting in a lost golf ball.

I recommend playing tees that are more forward than you might think of playing based on yardage. If you insist on playing the yardage from your home course and you average 84 or greater, bring a LOT of golf balls. It is quite possible to lose 12 or more.

Challenging for high HCs

Beautiful location, dozens of birds and course in great shape. Was fun but so many shots to green were just unforgiving in the extreme. I could get to fairway from tee well enough with forced carries. But being a little short, long, left or right with irons (and I'm guaranteed to be one of those) meant lost balls, impossible slopes, deep bunkers, or blind shots. Wish it had more safe misses. Desert golf, I know.

Beautiful Course

Love this course. Only complaint is that the greens were in poor shape. Looked like hole plugs had not “healed” in months.

Coyote 9

First time playing the Coyote 9 and I very much enjoyed the layout and conditions. Fairways are painted instead of over seeded but they are in great shape as well as the greens.

A must play!

I wish the weather was a tad bit better however, for the end of February, 60 degrees was fine. The course is laid out well and very playable. The greens were a little hard to read so view it from every angle. Very playable and I look forward to the next round when I return to AZ.

Found the course to be in the best condition of any course we had played in the area. We had a 2 PM tee time so we were worried that we wouldn't finish before Sunset but played the course in 3 hours with no waiting on any hole.

$80 for 9 holes of painted fairways

Booked nine holes at Starpass with my dad. The 9 holes was terrible condition, they failed to tell us it was the “in the process of being re conditioned” course. The fairways were PAINTED green and completely dead. It would’ve been fine if we didn’t pay premium prices, $80 person for 9. Okay, so we drove an hour, all the other courses are booked up, let’s make the best of it. We play the 9 holes. On the way in, I stop into the pro shop to request a refund. The manager proceeded to make a scene in front of other guest saying “you don’t go to a buffet, eat all the food, and ask for a refund” and I politely told him that I am just requesting a refund. That he does not have to give it to me, but that I’d be leaving a review of my experience on google. Angrily he told his employee to refund my purchase then proceeded to tell me again how “from a business standpoint” I shouldn’t have played the 9 holes if I wasn’t satisfied. I did not have the desire to argue with him so I just got my refund and left. Here’s the thing. If we didn’t plan 4 hours of the day to make the drive play 9 holes and drive back, I would’ve left on the first hole. If I was by myself, I would’ve left on the first hole. If there were other tee times at other courses, I would’ve left on the first hole. .
