Chesapeake Golf Club

About
Chesapeake Golf Club sits tucked away in the idyllic village of Las Gaviotas, conveniently situated just 15 minutes from downtown Norfolk. Boasting some of the best greens in the Tidewater area, the club offers the amenities of a private club with the fees of a public golf course. The layout will challenge you with rolling fairways and tricky doglegs. Water hazards come into play frequently so be prepared for a few intimidating blind shots over water. Mature trees line the rolling fairways and there are also strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. The manageable 6,278-yard length is approachable for beginners yet there are still holes that long hitters will enjoy. Chesapeake Golf Club is a course that will test your skills but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Excellent Golf Course
I always enjoy playing here,. The course is in very good shape, although they could trim the fairway second cut area shorter. The ball gets buried deep in the fairway second cut area due to its height and slows down the pace of game when player searches for the ball. Other than that, I always appreciate the staff friendliness ,clean facility, and military discount.
Great course for the money laid
Pace was great, course was in decent shape overall with plenty of water on the back 9. Wide fairways allow a good amount of forgiveness. New course layout is great but finishing 9th hole dumps you out on the road with a decent drive/walk back to the clubhouse if you want a quick bite to eat/drink then of course the same drive/walk back to the 10th tee. Strange layout but manageable
Water coolers are available throughout the course but go quick especially since it was 98 degree when we played.
I would definitely play here again
EXCELLENT GOLF COURSE
My second time playing at Chesapeake Golf course. I enjoyed both times I played. The course is for intermediate players and for beginners alike. There are few challenging layouts for accurate shots. Overall, it’s well-maintained and well-worth the value. I do appreciate that they have special rate with military teetime and Golfnow. The driving range and practice areas are also maintained well. They have Friendly staff and clean locker room with shower stalls.
Noted Improvements
This is the first time I've played the course since the holes have been renumbered. I am not sure if the course has undergone new management, but there are SIGNIFICANT improvements to grounds upkeep compared to when I was last out to the course a few months ago. The only detractor on the day was despite the multitude of grounds crew out maintaining the course, there was no marshall for monitoring pace of play. My entire round was held up by a group of 2 and a single player behind them that easily added an hour of waiting onto my round. Otherwise, great experience!
Greens
The greens were in somewhat horrendous shape. Pockmarked with ant hills, divots (???) and spots where the grass was just dead. The fairways were good. But I was disappointed with the greens.
Much improved
The course is getting a good summer feel. The fairways are in great shape and the green are getting better. They have cut the fringe around the green perimeter so that the ball sink into the grass making putting from off the green a tough option. There are still a few spots on the greens making it bumpy on some putts. A new and desired item is that a new company has taken over the dining facility and they have added a drink cart circulating around the course which is great during the high heat and humidity days
Has come a long way
They have really tried to get the greens in playing condition 1000% better than last year !! They were bad and this spring too. But way better now
Coming along!!
Course has really improved over the past 6 months. Greens are in 10x better shape. Course will challenge every shot, plays longer than the score card dictates, and have to hit it straight for the most part. Glad to see it coming back, since its right around the corner from the house. I wont complain much for 45.00.
Great Course for the Price
I played as a single on Sunday morning (I know, I know, but my buddy bailed Saturday night). Pace of play was fine until the back 9. I came up to a twosome that was waiting on a foursome the entire back side. The course has a really neat layout that isn’t long at all (~6100 yards from the tips), but provides a surprising challenge nonetheless. Tee boxes were mostly in pretty good shape, and the fairways were ok. The greens need work. They were very bumpy and several of them were covered in goose poop. Again, the green design and layout was very good and provided a challenge, but they rolled similar to what I imagine gravel would. All that said, at $46 to ride on a weekend is tough to beat, and I’ll most likely be playing here again.
Ok in a pinch
Not the best, but an OK course for a practice round. Course needed more work on r
The greens
Too hot for 18
Temp was 102. Could only play 9. Thankful for the shade trees in many locations. Greens and rough were a bit long so they could prevent scorching. Overall a decent course
Fun course for a low price
Layout here has always been a little odd, but overall fun and great variety of hole types. Greens, tee boxes and bunkers were in great shape. Only downside was often finding myself in tall grass in the middle of some fairways, and the cart paths are nearly unusable.
