18th Green at Queen's Harbour Photo submitted by mcstanley78 on 08/09/2013
Ron. In Jaxs.
There is nothing nicer than driving into Queen's Harbor, and seeing all of the beautiful homes, and a great looking course, and being treated as a guests, not a number. I love that... I've played 3 times over the Christmas weekend, and never once was I disappointed with the course or the staff... Be sure to get out in the next month. This is the perfect time to play out there. I have nothing but good things to say about this course...
Nice course
It was a little long for a senior. It is not really lady friendly with many carries. But a nice track.
Cart paths are a little confusing for first time players could use a little more signage
Good layout
Played multiple times and course is in very good condition. Pace of play was slow due to groups in front taking their own time on each hole. Greens on back 9 rolled differently than front 9 which was a bit aggravating. Will play again with a hot deal.
Queen's Harbour is a good design and challenging layout with forced carrys over marsh and water on several holes. That together with a tight design that demands accuracy off the tee and from the fairway to avoid penalties, requires attention and focus to make it an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Start before 12 if you want any chance of finishing
2 weeks ago I booked a tee time for 12:08 on a Saturday. Unfortunately, my group and I only got to play 16 holes before it got dark. We spent 5 1/2 hours on the course to play 16 holes, ridiculous. Yesterday we decided to try again and booked a 1:06 tee time hoping we could finish in the 4 1/2 hours of daylight. We played 13 holes in 4 1/2 hours. The course was more than happy to take my money and not tell us there was a stroke play tournament going off the front 9 at 1:00, with A and B groups on the first 6 holes. we teed off on time but it took 3 1/2 hours to play the front 9. Just really disappointed in the golf staff as I would like to play the whole course and enjoy a full
round of golf in less than 5 hours. I think I’m giving up on my favorite course in the area. (On multiple holes there were up to 4, 4somes waiting on the tee, with a 4some in the fairway and on the green. imagine 28 golfers on the same hole and you get queens harbour)
Friend from Maine
Excellent condition for month of Dec. Will be back for sure!
Slow Greens
Greens were incredibly slow and sponge like. This made putting difficult and almost impossible to manage. From the look and feel, they need to be aerated badly. The rest of the course was pretty standard but with a few more doglegs to the left vs. the right. Par 3 holes weren’t as easy due to the greens. Instead of birdies or par, you’re often left with a bogey unless you can get the ball within 3-4 feet of the cup on attack. Outside that, good luck with reading the green. Watch out on the turn if you need to stop by the clubhouse. Hole 18 runs next to it and takes a decent left turn. If there is a slicer in the tee box, HEADS UP because the ball is coming in HOT. There is a big tree there that may or may not catch it, you’ve been warned lol.
Course in great shape
Course was in great shape. Greens rolling very well. Smooth and fast. Fairways and tees were in great shape as well. Always a good trek. Arrived about 40 min before my tee time as a single. Pro shop said I could go ahead and play if I wanted instead of waiting - that the course was wide open. I jumped out on the first tee by myself, put my headphones in, and had a sweet 2 1/2 hr round. I love getting paired with new people and playing this game, but what I love even more is getting to play at my own pace and getting in 18 holes in under three hours. Was a great round too! Although I played up this time (black tees instead of the gold ones) I enjoyed my round even more. Shot a 74, even with three water balls.
