About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2019. See Grand Cypress - New listing for the remaining opened 18 holes.
Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando boasts four 18-hole championship courses designed by Jack Nicklaus. There is one 18-hole links course and three nines that are played in three different combinations. The South/East combination provides numerous challenges but it is also complemented by more player-friendly features. The South nine is one of the resort's original nines, the other being the North. The layout features terraced fairways and platform greens that are surrounded
by contoured mounding and yawning bunkers. The East nine is more forgiving with generous landing areas and fewer bunkers, especially in front of the greens, which allows for more run-up shots.

I got lucky with a pitching wedge and landed about 15' from the pin. The pin placement this round was tough with holes tight to the front edges. Photo submitted by knichola on 08/19/2013

Great course at a great price.
It was a very nice course to play and the rate through Golf Now was very good.
Awesome
This place is pure! Perfect playing conditions, greens were MONEY,
Very Good Course will Challenge You
There are three nines comprising the original golf course at Grand Cyprus. The North and South nines were the first to open, in 1984, and were the nines comprising the round of golf for this review. Nicklaus courses put a premium for accurate golf shots into the greens. Hit in the wrong spot and you're left with a difficult up-and-down, or two-putt, depending whether your inaccurate shot ended up on the green. Personally, I get lots of difficult shots, yet somehow I appreciate what he has done. This is really a fun course to play.
The greens are very fast, and when you couple that with the undulations there are places where 3-putts might be the best you can do. I am trying to learn not to go to those places.
The fairways were in very good condition. and the rough was, well, rough. I asked once about the lack of sand on the carts for repairing divot holes. The answer was that they believe it is their job to maintain the course. I don't mind sanding my divot holes, but I like their philosophy.
About my ratings: I played during some bad weather, by myself. I zoomed around the course. That is not usually the case. I rated the course pristine. Probably that is overstated. I had the chance to go to Augusta National for a practice round a few years ago. That was pristine! But Grand Cyprus does a really good job with keeping their courses in great shape, and with only three choices, I couldn't pick the "average" one. As for the value, I picked up a hot deal, but the course is well worth what they are asking if you don't mind a hard golf course.
45 amazing holes of golf! Great job Mr. Nicklaus!
Former home of an LPGA event, this facility remains top-notch! Aside from 45 beautiful holes, the proshop and restaurant provide amazing services. This is a must play. My golf buddies were thrilled and we can't wait until we are fortunate enough to return. :)
Great greens
Course is in great shape. One of the best places to play in central Florida.
Great Course at a fabulous rate!
Was able to get away for an afternoon of golf on a Thursday. Grand Cypress is one of the premier resort courses in the Orlando area, and as always, was in pristine condition. Most amazing part is that 18 holes of golf at one of the top courses in the area only cost $14 plus tax.
Great Staff and course was in great conditon for being Summer in Florida.
I was able to play 18 in around 3 hours. Tee Time was at 12PM. Played the North/South. Paid for the unlimited golf I was only able to play 4 extra holes due to the rain. The bar staff was extremely helpful.
Great course with friendly staff.
South course is amazing. East course is nice but not as nice as the south. South is supposed to be harder but i scored better on it than the east.
Challenging course, great value
Played 27 holes (all 3 nines on old course) in 5 hours on an unlimited play special. We caught up to the foursome ahead of us a couple of times but did not really slow us down. Nobody ever caught up behind us. A couple of the greens were not in perfect condition but overall the course still earns a "pristine" rating. I was surprised that a course of this caliber did not have free range balls but even factoring that in it was still a great value.
Very happy
Excellent conditions. Staff was very accommodating. I will play here again very soon.
First time at Grand Cypress
Played Grand Cypress yesterday for the first time after reading numerous positive reviews. My Father & I have been holidaying in Florida now for around 20 years & this is one of the only courses I had not played, so I was excited to see what it offered!
The greeting & instal meeting with staff where good, followed by a smooth transition over to the driving range which had a beautiful setting with quality balls.
The carts have GPS & we found our way over to the South 9 which we played first ver easily. We Really enjoyed the layout & thought the greens ran very true & quick. Like most Nicklaus courses there is a premium on accuracy off the tee, which then rewards birdie chances into the green. After a quick (it took us around 1hr 30mins to get around) we transferred over to the East 9 smoothly. Personally I didn't think the East offered the same kind of challenges as the South & was much shorter in length. I also did not think the greens ran as quickly or smoothly & looked like they had recently had maintenance completed on them.
Overall my experience was good. I don't think it's the best course in the area, but it has an enjoyable layout & the North may be a better choice than the East (the offer we bought allowed us to play all 3 nines, but we decided against doing so). I would recommend it if you haven't played there & are looking for an all day golf deal!
Always an excellent track no matter what course you play
Played North/South. Course is always in excellent condition. Greens are fast and roll true. The new course is my favorite. There is no other course like it in Central Florida.
P.S. Has the best ice and water stations around.
East nine greens just punched. Otherwise, very nice
The South nine was fun and in excellent condition. The east nine was recently punched and the greens were not very good. However, the remainder of the course was in good shape. The GPS system on the carts was outstanding. The staff were very accommodating and easy to deal with. The first nine was fast - no one in front of us. The second nine was 2.5 hours. We waited on every shot.
The course was in great shape
We got a great price for this resort style course.Everyone was friendly and we enjoyed our round. We had a great lunch after the round and we were on our way.I look forward all week long for this type of weekend day.
Nice Course (Sketchy Staff)
I was looking forward to playing this course, showed up an hour and 15 mins later, when I went to register a person name Scott, he was kind of cordial but when he looked in the computer and realized I was playing through golf now his whole demeanor changed, he looked at me like I was a fly or a maggot. His body language just changed, did not even offered us range balls or anything. He just told us," We can not check you in at this time" made us feel like we were less important because we were playing through golf now. I know that we get great rates and all but when we go to those nice courses we tip and consume at their regular prices. We should be treated like anybody else. Course is in great shape and I had a blast playing it.
Cotinues to be 1 of the very few, very best. Ranks very high.
Sincere hospitality at all encounters w/ staff.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Courses are meticulously maintained.
Best course I have played in Orlando
We played all three. North South and East. Did not play the New Course this time. All thee in very good condition. The design is good. Gives golfers an option on all holes so those new to the game have a way to get to the green Recommend highly.
Great course
Great course. Not sure I would be willing to pay to full rate in peak season but still a beautiful course. Course was well maintained from tee to green. The greens rolled true and held, can't ask for much more. The only blemish for me was a stretch of two or three holes at the end of the south course where it looked unifinished. The holes were finished but cart paths needed work and it looked like there was still some surrounding maintenance to be done. I hate feeling like I'm golfing in a work zone.
This course has great features.
Played the North/South course. The course is in great condition. There is plenty of water and sand, there are raised undulating greens all this presents a good challenge. This is the best course I have played so far this holiday. Well worth the fees.
Amazing courses!
You can never go wrong with any of the grand cypress courses
