Halifax Plantation
About
This 18 hole championship course opened in 1992 and was designed by Bill Amick. The shady fairways are bordered by huge sprawling oaks and towering pines, nestled in the shadows of Bulow and Tomoka State Parks in Ormond Beach. The course features five elevated tee boxes and fast, contoured, highly manicured greens adequately protected by traps. A unique experience for the golfer who enjoys not only a challenge but also extraordinary scenery.

Acceptable if other alternatives are lacking.
I wanted to like Halifax Plantation more, because the staff are a pleasure and it's easy-going. However, other than the greens, which are new, and need some seasoning, the course is just not in good condition. Patchy grass, bare soils, and sand in places where sand shouldn't be make club selection and wedge control really difficult. It was probably a nice course back in the day when the development around it was new, but it seems like the years have depleted the things that grass likes from the soil and left this course wanting. It's ok if you have no better alternative, but its condition cost me shots.
Poor condition
Course was not in very good shape. We played here last year and it was in good shape. Greens looked and played like they hadn’t been mowed in a couple days. They were very “fuzzy”. Layout is great but it needs some TLC.
Nice place to play
I’ve played here quite a few times over the years. Condition of the course has been consistent - not as plush in winter but very playable, come April it is usually in nice shape. Greens were in very good shape, some tee boxes need help. Fairways are average for this time of year.
The staff is excellent, very friendly and helpful. Wonderful food in the pub.
I will be back.
Greens nice
The Greens were great, the fairways and 2nd cut in rough shape. Friendly staff and nice club house. May need to marshall a little more and work on fairways a bit.
almost but not quite….
greens were all redone last fall and are very green and have filled in exceptionally well, BUT the greens keeper had not yet decided to mow them down to a reasonable pace. Very slow the day we played , VERY s l o w….Fairways ok, tee boxes ok but rough was sparse and generally not good. Hopefully in time things will improve, hopefully !
you've got options
I play this course every week, because this is where I live. the greens were reworked TWICE this last summer and they are better...not fast and with holes, weeds and bare spots, but management keeps saying they will get better. the fairways have patchy grass with areas where the mowers have scalped the surface down to bare dirt. there are only a few water features, but they are only mud. management has returned (since the pandemic) only a few ball washers and trash cans around the course and has refused to recognize that someone needs to pick up trash, saying that it is there because of the homeowners around the course. anyone who has ever played a "premium" course will recognize that this is not one. no starter and the Marshall is an honorary title. cart jockeys seem more interested in a tip than actually being helpful and the bar prices seem to be higher than most other clubs.
Greens way better
Played this course 2 years ago and was completely different than now.Redoing greens has helped course immensely. They roll smooth now compared to bumpy in years past.Tee boxes a little rough but they are working on them and some are better also.Nice layout and will definitely return.Staff helpful and friendly and pace of play good.
The next few months will be KEY
Hey this is a great chunk of land and a real nice layout. The issue is do they/will they have the funds and incentive to keep the greens and fairways in the same or better shape. The course has come a long way back in the last few years which is great, but now we're seeing some thinning in the fairways and a bit of the same old bald spots on the greens. again Not bad, yet, but this can only go one of two ways. Become and stay, a premium course in this area, or return to mediocrity and variable conditions.
I really hope they go with the 2nd, they're real nice people, with a great facility, bar, restaurant etc. Pulling for them!!
Fairways and most tee boxes were a little worse for wear but all in all not too bad. We just played preferred lies when we had to. New greens were very nice. Staff was very helpful and nice. Service and food in restaurant restaurant was exvellent. Had a very nice time.
Better options out there
Nice layout. Would be a gem if conditions were up to par. Greens were looking better after redo and tees look like they are on there way eventually. The rest of the course needs help though. For the money there are cheaper options with better or similar conditions locally. Doubtful to return anytime soon. If this were a $30-35 course I’d be back sooner
