Great layout of course
The course was challenging but not too hard. The grounds were just aerated so not the best of conditions but good enough to enjoy the game..
Friendly staff and modest greens fees only go so far
Let me start by saying that the staff at Lee's Hill is very friendly and that under different conditions, this is a course I would recommend in the future as I have in the past.
My relatively low score reflects my experience yesterday. Yes, the course is in high demand with so many courses north of Fredericksburg closed and the weather was optimal. And yes, the layout and routing of the course is not conducive to efficient play.
As such, after arriving for my 4:08 tee time and waiting until 4:15 to tee off, it took 85 minutes to play the first 4 holes, with significant waiting at each tee box. That's on-pace for a SIX-HOUR round. This is largely due to back-to-back shorter par-5s and then a par-4 with a blind tee shot that requires a bell to ring to signal an open fairway. It didn't help that nearly every group was a foursome and folks were starting on 1 and 10, the course was jam packed.
After the 5th hole, the pace picked up and again credit to the staff, there was actually a marshal out on the course doing what they could. Thankfully many either finished or gave up by the 9th so my 3-some played the back nine in just 80 minutes to finish just before dark.
Course conditions were another low point, though there could easily be some improvements done once the current situation allows for less play and more maintenance. In short, the course looked a bit shaggy from tee to the edges of the greens and the rough had numerous wet spots from some overnight rain (it had been cart-path only in the morning). Greens were a little bumpy but otherwise inoffensive, and pool noodles had been extended above the hole as part of the social distancing measures in place.
There are positives to be sure. While not the best for speedy play, the design of the course has character and you'll use plenty of different clubs to score well here. It's not an overly difficult course and is good for beginners or weekend hackers.
To reiterate, much of the course's shortcomings may alleviate fairly quickly as more courses open up and more maintenance can be done. There are some promising signs that money is being spent on the course, such as fresh green surrounds/fringe, and bunkers that (besides having some water in them) were in good shape.
I look forward to giving the course another shot later in the year and extending my recommendation of it once again. Until then, be warned that you could be in for a 5-hour+ round and somewhat lessened conditions.
Lee’s Hill still a gem!
We played Lee’s Hill for the first time in 20 years. The course is still great! Greens were in super condition Fairways & rough still need some warm weather to help grow in. Staff was great & the pa e of play was excellent!
Will not wait another 20 years to return.

Worth the trip
This course has always exceeded expectations. Without a doubt would recommend anyone in the area to play here.
It's alright, better courses for the money in the area.
The course was in below average conditions for what I paid. Many other courses in the area I think are better bang for your buck. Pace of play was slow and groups were on top of each other for most of the round. Greens were in good condition considering its April. Fairways can have some patchy spots near edges, middle of fairway was solid. Putting green is good, driving range is wide open but not many yardage markers or items to aim towards. Putting green is used as a small chipping area, cant really work on much more than fringe shots. If in the area, southbound you have Pendleton GC and up north multiple courses offer better training facilities and overall GCs. Make those trips for a round more worth it.
Firm fairways, punched greens
Dry firm fairways. Greens still recovering from being punched but they were ok. Pace of play wasn’t bad. They were providing single carts due to Covid. Also had raised the cup liners so you didn’t have to pick the ball out of the cup. I’ll try to play there again in a month or so to give the greens time to come back.
Not a five star
I've played here a couple times over the years and like the layout and staff. Condition started going downhill about two years ago when I think the greens got overrun. Read a couple very high rated reviews and thought I'd give it another go. Greens are going to be great, but were freshly punched. The rest of it was in rough shape. Tees, fairways, and rough were not in good shape. Bunkers looked ok but this is the time of COVID, they are played as ground under repair.
I'll give it another try in a month or so and see if this needs updating.
Pace of play not their fault, just folks that don't understand etiquette.
Outstanding Value
Course was in great condition for late March with excellent pace of play. Very friendly staff, a hidden gem.
This course is in amazing condition for February. Fairways were clean and not to hard. Greens were not to fast or slow. Overall 10/10.
Great Course
My first time playing this course in almost 3 yrs and the course was in excellent shape. Will definitely come back again!
Ground pretty hard, most areas more gray than green grass, extremely dry here (as a lot of areas in VA are right now). Layout is interesting! We enjoyed the course and will definitely come back to play again. Greens in good shape.
Challenging course
Enjoy the convenience of this course. Still a challenging course. Greens are in good condition but beware if your ball bounces off the fairway, no chance of retrieving it.
Beginner course.
Nice beginner course, could use some rain though.. fairways dry, but greens are slow.
Good pace for Sunday afternoon
Got around in just over 3 hours. Probably not norm for Sunday afternoon but we got lucky. Tee boxes and greens need a little work but everything else was in very good condition.
Aerated Greens
A hot few weeks with little rain, the course is hanging on but the greens are in need of some help. Thry are nice and green but extremely bumpy. Putts moved all iver the place, and it looks like they were just recently aerated. Fairways in pretty decent shape, green most of the part, brown in some others. Think the greens and fairways staff is doing the bedt they can with the weather. Would play this for the groupon or golfnow rate.
