Bull Run Golf Club
About
Situated in the foothills of Bull Run Mountain, Bull Run Golf Club has a beautiful woodland setting that is conveniently located just minutes from many historic Civil War sites. The course plays through mature forests and across lush, grassy meadows. There are also several ponds that come into play throughout. The expansive layout covers over 450 acres, allowing plenty of room for the native flora and fauna. The risk-reward layout has plenty of challenges for more daring hitters but it also offers wide fairways that are molded to steer the ball towards the center. The landing areas are generous but they are often framed by grassy hollows, bunkers, or mature trees. Bull Run is challenging, but playable, which is why the club is considered one of the best golf courses in the D.C. area.

TT at Bull Run
Nice course design. Course condition is a little rough. Lots of land to place a course - over 440 acres. A few houses but none close to the course. Wish it was in better shape. I will play it again.
Coming Back!
Based on recent reviews and the fact that a lot of courses have been in distress, we were a bit apprehensive about playing Bull Run. we were pleasantly surprised to find that not only were they hard at work improving the course, but the greens were in great shape, the fairways did have some bare spots here and there, and most of the tee boxes were o.k. We have played this course several times a year since in opened; have seen it when it was in distress; and were glad that it's coming back!
Great people but horrid conditions
The staff were great and friendly but the conditions were just awful. Nearly every tee box our tees were dirt. Every now and then we were lucky enough to have crab grass. They didn’t bag the clippings and that was everywhere. The course layout is nice but I’ve played better maintained courses for less than half what I payed here. I would save your money for nearly anywhere else.
Nice layout but needs some work
A very nice layout and great staff but the fairways and tees were very neglected and hadn’t been cut in at least a week. I know that the DC area had a lot of rain in the previous days but this course needs some major TLC. The greens were in good shape but needed cutting and the pace was almost 6 hours.
Poor Conditions
Tee boxes and greens are terrible. The have let the place go with no signs of improving it. Charged $78 which was a rip off. Avoid this course. It used to be very nice, not any more.
Thank you for your feedback and appreciation of the layout and amenities at the course.
As our bermudagrass tees were negatively affected by winterkill over a severe winter we have started the process of improvement with sprigging of affected areas. Improvement in an effort to get full recovery going into the fall.
We hope to see you again as the conditions continue to improve into the fall.
Great course
I enjoyed this course up until the 14th hole when the rain became too heavy. Will have to play it again when the weather pattern changes. Has some challenging holes that require ball placement over length of drive.
Much better than expected!
After reading recent reviews of the conditions at Bull Run I wasn't expecting a good experience. However, the course was really in pretty good shape given the lack of rain the past few weeks Yes, several of the tee boxes were closed and played from temporary tees, but overall the fairways were in pretty good shape and the greens were in great condition. and rolled true. A very enjoyable round at just under 4 hours on a Friday on one of Northern Virginia's best layouts, and a great value at $54!
Down hill slide
This course seems to have an ongoing problem with fairway and tee box maintenance. Several years ago (at least 10) the course had to rebuild several fairways. After that effort, the course remained in very good playing conditioner several years. Now, they seemed to be heading in a direction that will require another total rework of several fairways. The tee boxes are in really bad shape with 3 of them actually closed for repair. Lots of areas on the course where the crabgrass is taking over. This is a beautiful layout in a great location that suffers from maintenance issues. The good news is the greens are very well maintained. Hope the course can return to better days.
Summer heat not too friendly to the course
Course is in pretty bad shape. Greens are OK but tee boxes are pretty much all dirt and fairways have a number of dirt patches throughout the course. Course seemed to try to save more damage by over watering the course but that just made our round soggy.
pace & condition
Green speed was very consistent and rolled true, so those three punt were on me.
Pace of play was really good considering it was father's day weekend, 4 - 41/2 hours, specially coming off of Saturdays play at 1757, six hour round, ouch.
If you've never been you gotta try it very pretty course as well.
Funday Friday!
Booked a foursome to play golf on Friday before Father's Day. Weather was PERFECT! We had a great time in our foursome. The course was in better shape than when I played it 5 years ago. Tee boxes are Bermuda grass, so in another week the Bermuda will be on fire! This course is great for an "average" golfer and challenging enough for the single handicapper. Every hole is different...a MUST play for your foursome this summer!
Love this course
In good condition except for some sand traps. Free driving range balls is something you don’t see at courses anymore. Will be playing this course a lot.
very nice
course is in great shape except for the tee boxes which have not come in yet. definitely a challenging course but gives you some scoring opportunities. pace of play was average. will definitely be back this year.
Gem of a course--one of best in Northern Virginia
I love the layout of this course! It is a pretty course. Condition was very good but Bermuda tees haven't grown in yet. Played early and flew around in well under four hours. Staff in pro shop and restaurant were friendly and helpful. Driving range could use some attention--mats and balls very worn out. Otherwise, practice area is great. Overall a very pleasant experience and decent value.
Fun Course in Nice Condition
This was my first time playing the course and I really liked the course. There were things I really liked and a few things I did not so much care for.
Overall, course was in great shape with smooth fast greens. Fairways were awesome (workers were just mowing the rough for the first time this year (still early spring time). The fairways were recently mowed and were great). There are lots of very pretty looking golf holes. Very nice practice area.
Because it was still early spring, some of the bunkers had no sand and were just dirt. Other bunkers were full of sand and nice. The tee boxes were all shaved down low and brown and looked bad vs. how nice the rest of the course looked.
The course is challenging, but fair. I would defiantly play this course again.
Great Layout!
Really enjoyed this round! Fairways where in good shape and rough was long. The greens where very fast and challenging. Sand could have been better! Overall a great round!
Great Day
Beautiful day course was in great shape and staff was friendly what more could you ask for!
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
Thank you for your feedback and kind words regarding the staff and layout.
As you indicated, the fairways and tees were not up to standards over the weekend in large part due to the large amount of rain over the previous week. While we were able to mow on Thursday and Friday, the course was in need of more mowing to get the grass heights down even more.
As Saturday was a beautiful day after the rains, we were indeed very busy with cart path only conditions making for painfully slow rounds in the afternoon.
Please visit us again as we continue work on tees and fairways to improve conditions and hopefully your overall experience.
