Bull Run Golf Club
About
Situated in the foothills of Bull Run Mountain, Bull Run Golf Club has a beautiful woodland setting that is conveniently located just minutes from many historic Civil War sites. The course plays through mature forests and across lush, grassy meadows. There are also several ponds that come into play throughout. The expansive layout covers over 450 acres, allowing plenty of room for the native flora and fauna. The risk-reward layout has plenty of challenges for more daring hitters but it also offers wide fairways that are molded to steer the ball towards the center. The landing areas are generous but they are often framed by grassy hollows, bunkers, or mature trees. Bull Run is challenging, but playable, which is why the club is considered one of the best golf courses in the D.C. area.

Conditions have deteriorated
This was my first time at Bull run in two or three years. I used to drive 40 miles because it was one of the nicer courses in the area and thought of it as one of the better courses around.
Yesterday I played at Bull Run and was amazed at the lack of quality of the greens, the fairways and conditions of tee boxes. The rough was mixed grasses and hadn't been treated in a long time. The fairways were burnt in areas and were chewed up. Some bunkers had standing water in them, while others were basically cement. Each green, I fixed at least three ball marks (could have been more but I really didn't feel like spending my Sunday working).
The pace of play was amazingly slow. We would wait ten minutes on each tee box. Never once did we see the ranger, and in 18 holes only saw the beverage cart twice. Twice we reached coolers that were empty.
Remember to book tee times through Golf Now. One member of our group did and paid $49 the others booked over the phone and it was $67, we thought we would all get the same rate. When we asked if we could, the guy at the pro shop said we could pay the higher price.
I used to really like Bull Run. I don't think you will ever see me there again and I hope you stay away.
I think the good course.
on 07:13/16 I was a good play some one. .
I was to very very happy. The golf course good
We played the join the people's good play.
next time I try ofthere to cours.
Thank you..
Love this course
The course was in great shape greens were fantastic and fairways mostly in great condition. I really like the mix of holes and the level is challenging but fair . People were very friendly and good advice. Overall a very pleasant experience
Great course for average golfers
I really like this course and have played it quite a few times in the past few years. I'm a 16 and find it challenging but fair, with a lot of variety to it. The rough was shaggy enough to make you want to stay out of it but not US Open style. The greens were a little pokey today (hence 4 instead of 5 stars) but I have not found that to be the case usually. The weather was brutally hot and humid so that might have been a contributor. The staff is very friendly without being overbearing. The practice area is very well done although I did not use it this time. I also did not put the kitchen to the test - only had a quick dog at the turn. Beverage cart showed up 4x in 18 holes which was appreciated on a hot day.
a good, moderate challenge, good condition
Overall I would say it is a cut above average in terms of the course, with very-good amenities. Nothing too challenging, and for a decent golfer, really just challenging enough to be interesting and make for a decent round.
Nice test of ability
Unfortunately it was cart path only and this really impacts your enjoyment of the course. Overall, even though it took 5+ hours, it was in great shape and I would recommend it to others!
Broke 80
I'm a 65 year old 10 handicap avid golfer. My experience at Bull Run was like going to a country club. Nice people, friendly service, helpful young guys professionally dressed, free range balls, beautiful course and facilities. The day was 90+ degrees and 100 percent humidity so I can't say I didn't break a sweat. For a course I had never played I finished with the best round of my life (76)..I liked it so much, I'm playing there again tomorrow...
Nice layout
Good course. Like a budget version of Raspberry Falls.
Course condition
The overall course was in great condition, however the greens were very slow. Probably they were trying to save the greens from the upcoming summer heat
Need better training of staff on the course
We really like this course and we always look forward to playing here. The course itself was in good condition, although several holes had sand traps that more resembled a dirt road than a sand trap. (wasn't the case on every hole, but traps either had wonderful white sand OR they were horrible with hard-packed dirt and stones) It was obvious that no one was maintaining the non-course related details...........water jugs were empty, trash cans had trash spilling onto the ground. The cart girl was oblivious to where she drove or talked as people were hitting shots......isn't that in the "Beverage Cart Driving 101 handbook"????
All fixable items, so I hope the pro shop staff sees this review!
Great Course for Bogey Golfer
I played this courts because I got a discounted green fee… The course was in great shape! Staff was friendly and helpful! It's a fairly wide-open course and flat. Greens were moderate pace… I ordinarily would not play this course because of its price… But I certainly enjoyed today's outing and would highly recommend this course to anybody
Great shape all around
Haven't played the course in 3 years. I was pleasantly surprised to see they stepped up their game. Greens were rolling true and in great condition. Fairways were smooth. And overall everyone in my foursome liked the course a lot. My cart rider decided he liked it better than raspberries falls which was his local favorite.
I will return for sure.
Dmv golf
I was in the DC area over the weekend had some options picked Bull Run I was running late but they got me right on the course. Course is very interesting love the layout greens were somewhat fast but rolled true.
Course will make you think shots have to be straight. Having the water on the back nine makes it even more fun
I would play again when I am in the area.
Excellent and a beautiful course in perfect condition
One of the most beautiful courses I have played during my there years in DC region.
Great Course!
Course is well maintained, staff were friendly and courteous, layout is interesting and it's a must-play course in Northern Virginia.
excellent track
Great lay-out/conditions were excellent/staff friendly and very helpful
Great day!
The course was in excellent condition and I played with wonderful people. Everyone on the staff was very helpful and courteous. I enjoyed the entire round.
Bull Run is beautiful!
Quite a few of my friends play here on a regular basis but this was my first chance to play here myself. I found the course to be laid out well and it was a very enjoyable round. The course was in great shape and the staff was super friendly!
Wonderful Round
Beautiful course it was hard to leave! Greens were a good speed, and the staff was very friendly. The rough is long, but if you are up for the challenge, it is a great way to catch up! (If you hit the fairways)
Great Course. Bad Pace
Course was in great shape. Esp after all the rain we've received in the his area. But once again Pace of play is an issue here at Bull Run. As we got to the 6th hole we started waiting for 3-4 minutes for ever shot, then it progressively got worse to the point where the 18th hole had a 26 minute delay for just the tee box. Bull run needs to have a Marshall out there to regulate pace of play, and/or inform groups to let single quicker players play through if there is a significant amount of doubles and singles in between a jam packed tee sheet.
