Bull Run Golf Club
About
Situated in the foothills of Bull Run Mountain, Bull Run Golf Club has a beautiful woodland setting that is conveniently located just minutes from many historic Civil War sites. The course plays through mature forests and across lush, grassy meadows. There are also several ponds that come into play throughout. The expansive layout covers over 450 acres, allowing plenty of room for the native flora and fauna. The risk-reward layout has plenty of challenges for more daring hitters but it also offers wide fairways that are molded to steer the ball towards the center. The landing areas are generous but they are often framed by grassy hollows, bunkers, or mature trees. Bull Run is challenging, but playable, which is why the club is considered one of the best golf courses in the D.C. area.

Golf on a beautiful day on a great course. Perfect!
Played w three people unknown to me. Didn't make any difference. Bull Run Golf Club was in great shape we were able to focus on golf and fun.
Great course, expensive if you don't catch a deal
I've played this course several times and I love the course. The only complaint I have is that it can be a little pricey unless you catch a deal. The staff is always very friendly, and the course is usually is pretty good shape. The driving range is also excellent. I will play this course again.
Great Course
Really Enjoy the course, no complaints there, with the only exception being the 3 group backup on the 18th hole - tough to sit and wait through that.
Main gripe is getting hit with $4+ on a "$49" rate on GolfNow. Need to fix that, show the actual out the door price as the rate.
This is not your old Bull Run golf course
I played this course when it first opened and a couple of time a year every year since.
The course was originally really nice then it went downhill and got a reputation as being in horrible shape. But, with the new owner/management the course is back! It was in really nice shape and the practice facility, pace of play, etc. were excellent.
Give it another shot and you won't be disappointed.
The course is enjoyable by beginners and pros
Excellent course. Open fairways and great conditions. Vey enjoyable
SLOW
Extremely slow pace of play. Had to leave after 16!
Excellent Course for the Money
Bull Run is being kept up very nicely by the new ownership. The proshop and starter were very professional and kept things moving. Course was in great condition, especially the greens. Had a wonderful time on the course.
Great course
Love this course. Challenging on some holes, beautiful layout with the water. Some tee boxes were being repaired, but other wise it was in great shape.
Enjoyable
Great time. Friendly staff. Course is beautiful. Only a couple areas under repair. Really enjoyed this round
Disappointed
I try to play Bull Run once aweek. For the most it's a great course. Staff is excellent and course is in fantastic shape. This time I was disappointed with the condition of putting greens. It was bumpy not like bull run I've always played. My wife and I did not enjoy our round of golf at all.
5.5 hour round...
Great course. They really need to do something about the pace of play. Well over 5 hours makes the round unenjoyable and for the price this shouldn't be an issue. Maybe some rangers stationed around the course, similar to what Blue Mash does?
Great Layout
Really enjoyed playing during the week. Had great weather and the course was in excellent shape. Only issue was the greens because of aeration. Pace of play was good and fairways where nice and rough manageable. Overall a great experience.
Among the best public courses
Overall the course is in great shape. The greens had just been aerated so not much to be said about that but my one gripe was the condition and location of the tee boxes which seemed poor given the time of the year but that might be due to the bermuda grass which has yet to wake up. Bottom line this is a fun course that never seems overly crowded due to it's location.
Great value
The course conditions were not yet at a level that I'm sure they expect. The greens were recently punched and some of the bunkers are in the middle of being redone with new sand. Fantastic layout and everyone on their staff were very friendly. Great pace of play.
Very scenic. Nice design.
Chose this course at the last minute. I'm visiting from Texas. Drove out from McLean and well worth it. Very nice course for the money. The course routing is varied and interesting. Although it is early in the season and most of the trees were still mostly bare there was a lot of color from blooming vegetation.
The greens rolled very nicely and were consistent.
The downside.
As stated it is still early in the season and the fairways were rather spongy and moist. These soft fairways caused VERY deep divots in most of the fairways. On the 8th hole my ball stopped in one of these deep divots. The divot was so deep I would not have been able to get my club down to the majority of the ball. The grass had grown back to a degree and the divot was not very wide. I suppose they could sand these areas especially on holes where divots are plentiful. Most green side bunkers had white consistent sand but several fairways bunkers need new sand and a few fairway bunkers were marked ground under repair.
The 18th hole is a bit odd so try to preview the layout before teeing off.
Overall, I highly recommend this course and it was worth the drive from McLean.
The GM was handling the cart duties because the usual cart "person" did not make it in on Saturday. He was friendly and even made it a point to keep a rather slow foursome on pace ahead of our threesome.
Nice Spring Golf Day
I have waited all spring to get out. Bull Run was my first round of the year. The course was starting to grow into shape. Some patchy spots around the greens and fairway provided bad (unfair) lies. Tee boxes were nice with markers easy to find on the par 3s. Bunkers had nice, new, soft white sand. Very manageable course even though it was windy. Caught an old foursome at the end who was just enjoying the weather. Cart girl was new and was having difficulty navigating the course (she stopped and asked where to go several times), but she was nice. Overall enjoyable round at a nice course.
Improved conditions and well kept
The tee boxes are still a little rough and there are several areas that are under repair but it did not affect the round. Several of the fairway bunkers are still in winter shape and not filled with sand but the greens are in good shape and the fairways are perfect. Great staff and fantastic clubhouse and facilities New 4 person carts are cool and practice areas are in great shape
Scenic
As always this course remains in top condition with spectacular views across a rolling field. Some holes will challenge you to accomplish par and the 18th hole will make you come back to Bull Run
Bull Run
I play this course quite often and the Course is typically in excellent condition. Food at all times of day has been great. The people running the facility and the starters have always been very professional regardless of the cost I paid; and I personally have never had an issue when cost is through Golf-Now at any course. However, we do play this course less often at prime season, but will do so once to receive our Raspberry Certificate, so we can return. I recommend the course and Trail to people all the time.
