Bull Run Golf Club
About
Situated in the foothills of Bull Run Mountain, Bull Run Golf Club has a beautiful woodland setting that is conveniently located just minutes from many historic Civil War sites. The course plays through mature forests and across lush, grassy meadows. There are also several ponds that come into play throughout. The expansive layout covers over 450 acres, allowing plenty of room for the native flora and fauna. The risk-reward layout has plenty of challenges for more daring hitters but it also offers wide fairways that are molded to steer the ball towards the center. The landing areas are generous but they are often framed by grassy hollows, bunkers, or mature trees. Bull Run is challenging, but playable, which is why the club is considered one of the best golf courses in the D.C. area.

Bull Run continues to exceed expectations
Bull Run continues to be a great, fun, and challenging course. Good for intermediate through advanced golfer. My son played the blue tee's and I played the whotes. During the round we picked up 2 other golfers to make a foursome.
I was impressed with the condition of the course given that it is mid August. Several other local courses are in poor shape, but Bull Run was in very good shape. Only the rough was distressed. Fairways, greens, and tee's were very good.
I hope you enjoy Bull Run as much as I did
Great course for the cost
I recently planned a small golf outing for a group of my coworkers. After some research I ultimately selected Bull Run for a few reasons...
1) Excellent practice facility: Unlimited range balls included in Golfnow fee, nice pitch/chip area with a couple of bunkers, and a huge, very well maintained putting surface.
2) Course rating: I was playing with a group of intermediate to advanced golfers (10-15 handicaps) so I was looking for a place that would be challenging, but wouldn't cause anyone to do anything that they would regret in front of their coworkers (throw a club, loose all their balls on the front 9...).
3) Cost: Unfortunately, this was not a company sponsored event, and as a result, I wanted to try and avoid a big price tag that would discourage people from participating in the event.
I can say wholeheartedly that I made a great choice. The course was in great condition. I would have said excellent if not for some pretty rough fairway and green side bunkers. However, one of the greens keepers told us that they were going to be redoing all of the bunkers in the Fall of 2014. The course offers 5 sets of tees which impact not only the total distance, but the playing angles as well. We played 36 holes, 18 from the tips (black) and 18 from the one forward (blue). The second 18 felt like I was playing a completely different course. As a result of the magnitude of strategically placed fairway bunkers, both sets of tees presented unique challenges while still remaining relatively playable. This course is located a little further out (from DC) than several of their most comparable competitors. However, it is definitely worth the drive. I will certainly play Bull Run again, and have recommended it to others without hesitation.
nice links style course
Bull Run golf course is a great place to play if you like links golf. Some holes are in the trees but what do you expect in the foot hills of the Shenandoah mts.
So so
Not worth full price, as conditions were average at best. Rough was bare in many places, greens inconsistent rocks in sand traps. Turned on sprinklers on number 9 on a Saturday mid day. Can't imagine there is not a better time to do this!
No sandwiches made at turn forced to eat an average hot dog in order to keep things moving. Never saw a ranger all day
Only play if you get a Golf Now deal!
Great course
My golfing partner and I really enjoyed this course. The course was in great condition and was quite challenging. The pace of play was a bit slow (Friday morning), but aside from that it was a very fun and interesting course. The fees could have been a bit lower, but overall a great outing !
Great layout
The course was in great shape played very well even for a beginner and great ,friendly staff. Was paired with another group had a great time. some very challenging holes but fun, would recommoend to anybody of any level to play. Looking foward to playing there again.
bull run
Rough was really dry, fairways great. Greens very unpredictable and slow.
Bull is awesome
Course in great condition. We can't wait to play again.
Marshals.
I recall like the course. People are more than friendly. I especially like the marshals enforcing the pace of play. Wish other courses would adopt this procedures.
A Good Day At Bull Run
My group all enjoyed our round at Bull Run. The staff was very friendly. We got off at the exact time our tee time was for. We played in 4 hours, which was a perfect pace. The course had some damage from lack of rain but the grounds crew were hard at work repairing all affected areas and they made it so it did not have an adverse effect on our round.
Overall it was a great day.
Boo....open the range!
Love the course...hate that the range wasn't open due to cutting schedule. Why not cut the evening after play I'd done for the day? Older players definitely need some swings to get loose. Gone are the days when many of us can hop out of the car and head straight for the first tee. When I complained I was told that they were just following the maintenance schedule. Well....time to change the schedule. Somewhat of an indifferent attitude displayed by pro shop guy too. Hate to be picky but...might not return or will ask about range first.
hidden gem
Enjoyed the course; the layout was fun and challenging. Staff very friendly from the caddy setting up the cart(cleaned my clubs at the end - only experience that in FL), register technician, and the starter. I will be back.
Overpriced
I love this layout--varied, a couple of drivable or at least very short par 4s that are super, non-gimmicky risk-reward, water hazards galore but not cheap shots; forced carries but mainly of the psychological kind. It's a brilliant design for a public course. The problem, for years, is that at around $95 a round it is way too expensive for the conditions here. The bunkers are jokes--the first one I was in (on the first hole sad to say) had the usual dirt plus fine gravel, for crying out loud--and the rest of them were no better than the $65 tracks around here. More dirt than anything else. I'm willing to put up with that at say Goose Creek in Leesburg or Brambleton in Ashburn, but not here. Several greens had ground under repair around the edges, plus bad wasp-nest problems; multiple tee boxes were raggedy, and the fairways were okay but, again, not at the level you can get around here for that kind of money. It's a pity.
The people were great, the food was terrific at the 19th hole, and people seem to enjoy holding marriage receptions or even weddings here.
Immaculate
This is the second time my son and I have played the course and it was again in immaculate condition. This is clearly one of the best daily fee courses in the area with several risk/reward holes that always make for a fun round. Great conditions, great layout and the staff is very friendly. Also, the restaurant is worth a stop.
Bull Run play it it's a must
It sits on the base of Bull Run Mountain. The course uses it's terrain. Elevated tee boxes down hill fairways and undulating greens. The greens were in great shape and the fairways were good. There were some thin spots around the green from time to time. I love this course fair but get greedy it can bite you.
Bull Run Saturday Evening
By far my favorite course in the area. I've played here early Saturday, evening and mid-week and the staff are always friendly. There are a few water hazards, but no risk to a novice golfer.
Great course - Friendly staff
We will be back - a fun course to play. Well cared for course!
An Area Must Play
I was pleasantly surprised at the excellent quality of the course. Great layout with enough challenge for anyone from the back tees. I was particularly impressed with the visual beauty of the individual holes, particularly with the backdrop of the Bull Run mountains and the many water features. Greens were perfect, fairway lush….making this a top-ten VA-MD-DC venue. Worth the extra drive. Play this course!
Great Course
Shot the round of my life so I am a little biased but the weather was perfect and the course was in great shape. Greens rolled true with good speed. Fairways and bunkers were in great shape. Only compliant was driving range was a little beat up and a few tee boxes were chewed up but overall the course was enjoyable and the staff were very friendly.
A nice track - play it for sure
Played here many times in the past but not since Raspberry Mgmt took it over.
Course was in great condition except for the bunkers which need to be re-sanded. Thankfully they have gotten rid of the cicada killers.
Looking forward to playing again.
