Bull Run Golf Club
About
Situated in the foothills of Bull Run Mountain, Bull Run Golf Club has a beautiful woodland setting that is conveniently located just minutes from many historic Civil War sites. The course plays through mature forests and across lush, grassy meadows. There are also several ponds that come into play throughout. The expansive layout covers over 450 acres, allowing plenty of room for the native flora and fauna. The risk-reward layout has plenty of challenges for more daring hitters but it also offers wide fairways that are molded to steer the ball towards the center. The landing areas are generous but they are often framed by grassy hollows, bunkers, or mature trees. Bull Run is challenging, but playable, which is why the club is considered one of the best golf courses in the D.C. area.

Good course but under repair
I've played this course quite a few times in the past and have always liked the layout. Condition has been iffy at times but pretty good under the currentt ownership. This time however they were renovating bunkers throughout the course and plugging the fairways on the front nine all the while allowing play to continue. Front nine conditions were deplorable with several fairways and a lot of the rough covered with plugs. We also had to put up with noisy trucks and equipment shuttling back and forth while we were playing (or trying to play!) and most bunkers out of play, marked as ground under repair.
I fully understand course maintenance and renovation has to take place but we were never advised of front nine conditions and told only about the bunkers. I feel a course owes it to its players to advise of adverse conditions beforehand or make some concession in green fees.
Great golf experience
Firstly, the staff here is super friendly. From the gentleman who greeted us with our cart upon arrival, to the check-in at the pro shop, to the rangers on the course, to the cart girl, everyone was super friendly and helpful. Made for a very enjoyable experience. The course itself was in awesome condition, especially for late October. The greens were fantastic and true, fairways were well maintained too. Getting to use the driving range as part of the greens fee was a nice bonus as well. Overall we had a great experience, and would certainly return.
Bull Run on a fall day
We golfed here once in the spring and thought it would be great in the fall. We weren't disappointed. The colors were beautiful and the course was in great shape. Excellent greens, albeit a little fast. Would definitely play here again.
Great Place to Tee it up..
Bull Run is always in great shape.. Pace of play always seems to be good.. Service and hospitality is great.. Awesome practice area.
Great Course
Got a deal to play the course, first time there. If the course was not so wet from rain the night before I would give it a 5 star rating. Great time would recommend.
Another golf afternoon in paradise.
We thoroughly enjoyed our round. The starter told us that 2:15 was the point to reach on the front nine. We made it around in about 1:50. It helps when there is no group ahead of you for about 4 holes. We kept up the pace on the back nine and were done in about 3.5 hours. The course was in great shape - great fairways (if you hit them) and fast greens. We will definitely come back out before it gets too cold.
Nice course. Great condition.
Play here. The course was in great condition and pretty well maintained.
Great Conditions in October
Played 18 holes as a twilight tee time of 3pm. Fantastic weather and it had rained the night prior. Fairways and Greens are in excellent condition. Even long irons sticking on greens from 200 out. Rough was cut pretty high keeping the ball near the fairway if you strayed. The course layout is somewhat forgiving with wide fairways and accessable green fronts but has several "signature type holes" that have great views. There is quite a bit of water but it does not play too much of a factor. Traps and other hazards were in great condition. We ran into a little slow down from a foursome who were holding up about 3 groups so no chance to play through. WHole round took under 4 hours even with waits on the back nine holes. Booked tee times through Golfnow for $37, well worth the price.
Nice day
Course in exellent condition as always some fariway damage in low lying areas but overall good. Greens in good condition and playing guick. Only negative my cart died by the 4th hole nursed it to 6th then called clubhouse and they brought me a new one right away
Love the course
Had a good day of golf, always enjoy returning to Bull Run GC. Course was in very good condition, including the greens. Staff was extremely friendly and eager to provide assistance from arrival until departure. The only area lacking at all was the beverage cart service. Non-existent during our round. 0758 tee time, and never saw the cart, except on the turn ~1000 when it was parked outside the clubhouse and again coming off #18. Even then she appeared to be going "with" the flow (from starting hole forward) instead of against the flow (from hole #18 towards #1). I'd chock it up to an isolated incident, but it's happened 2 out of the last 3 times I've played there. Fix this issue and it'd be 5 stars across the board.
Super bargain
Excellent,.
Better than excellent
What a great price with TEE TIMES...
Certainly makes an upscale course VERY affordable!!
Love this course
This is my favourite course in the area for all the main reasons, condition, layout, the service, the pace of play. I'm willing to travel out to play this. My only problem is that my best day playing is Monday (morning) and they have taken to closing the range. I really can't play without warming up properly, and it never used to be this way. I use to play every Monday. This last week I phoned ahead and they said it would be open, when I" got there it was closed. Hence I was all over the place for the first 4 holes :-( But the course was excellent .
too noisy
This course is under construction making very loud noisy around whole courses, which get us on our nerves. So 52 dollars is a quite expensive.
Do not go there for the time being until the construction done.
Bang for your buck
Course in great condition. Not wait time - though played earlier. Food like usually double to triple the price. Overall will play again and again
Nice course
Golf course was in great condition, staff was very friendly, pace of play no problems , played nine holes and the rains came, they gave us a credit for half of our greens fee for future use. I will come and play this course again.
Very nice course, but green can be little faster.
Very nice golf course and long and wide, but green can be little faster.
Going downhill...
Have always loved the layout of this course and used to play it a lot (even a couple of Solstice Survial events). It went down hill several years back. After being taking over by Raspberry Falls Group a few years ago I was hoping to see this course achieve it's former excellance. Early indications (over the last couple of seasons) were that they were on the right track. Overall conditions of the course were on the upswing. Fast forward to today...they are back on the downhill slide. Generally, weather this summer has been great and even the munis are in good to excellant shape. Not Bull Run. The range only had 10 hitting areas that were set up and we had to wait for people to clear before we could warm up. Since the 10 areas were always full they wore down quickly and there was more dirt than grass. Hitting off mats would have been better. Teed off on time and the starter (as usual) was very friendly. Sadly, after the first hole we started encountering chewed up, uneven and unmowed tee boxes. Ball washers with no towels (if there was one on the hole at all). Fairways with many bare spots. Bunkers with standing water and little to no sand. Greens that were bumpy and diseased. In addition, the entire course was soaked....yet the area hasn't had any significant rain for over a week. The course should have been firm and fast. I used to love this course but it has really gone down hill (again). Even with the GolfNow price of $79 this is not a good value. Our group will not be returning to Bull Run.
bull run is back
it had been a while since I had last played bull run because the course had been allowed to deteriorate over the previous several seasons. I heard it was under new management, and decided to give it a try. we were very pleased with conditions. it reminded me of bull run in the good old days. wouldn't hesitate to plan future excursions there at all. ps, it must have rain 2 inches after 6 holes. we waited it out, and except for the bunkers, the course drained very well.
Superb Day of Golf
Aces on the course, the staff, and Golf Now - our 4some had a great time.
