Bull Run Golf Club
About
Situated in the foothills of Bull Run Mountain, Bull Run Golf Club has a beautiful woodland setting that is conveniently located just minutes from many historic Civil War sites. The course plays through mature forests and across lush, grassy meadows. There are also several ponds that come into play throughout. The expansive layout covers over 450 acres, allowing plenty of room for the native flora and fauna. The risk-reward layout has plenty of challenges for more daring hitters but it also offers wide fairways that are molded to steer the ball towards the center. The landing areas are generous but they are often framed by grassy hollows, bunkers, or mature trees. Bull Run is challenging, but playable, which is why the club is considered one of the best golf courses in the D.C. area.

very enjoyable round
This a fine course we have played often. The course is coming into great shape. Greens still showing effects of aeration, but its spring after all. Will be really good soon. The staff is friendly and helpful - particularly with regard to staying ahead of potential slow play culprits. Finished in 3.5 hours on a Sunday!
Only knock is that grass tees on practice range were shot and the mats have a definite uphill slant.
Overall, well worth it. Always enjoy "bully"
Great weather
Had an hour long delay from frost and a backed up tourney but the weather made the day perfect. Course was in good shape greens were fast.
Good start to the season
Early in the season, which explains the less than ideal aeration marks on the greens. Tough to get a true roll on putts due to the aeration, but the course was in very good shape considering the winter it just dealt with. The greens should be very good in another week.
Cold and windy but what a course!!!
The course is a real beauty. Very representative of Northern, Va with the Civil War history related name, the beautiful hills in the distance, the rolling hills into which the course is built and the challenging water and wastebunker obstacles. I would recommend it to anyone. We got a heckuvadeal from GolfNow to play it in early March, the weather was windier than I would normally play and the grounder was muddier but the course is so nice, we had a great time anyways.
Bull Run ALways Pricey
I've always enjoyed playing at the Bull Run GC over the last ten years. The course is usually in good shape and offers some challenges from the Blue and Black Tees. However, my play would pick up at the course if the greens fees were more in line with the other courses in their caliber in No. VA. They ask premium fees for a course that is not a premium course. Lastly, I would be remise if I didn't mention that the staff, starter, cart boys, and restaurant staff have always been very friendly.
Nice course - good to walk or ride
I reserved as a single and the starter allowed me to begin on the back nine to avoid a large group on the front. My pace of play was <3 hours. Although it was early March and there were still areas with snow, the course was clean, maintained, and he course was in very good shape. I would definitely come back.
Great course and friendly staff
This course is very nice and I can see why a lot of my friends like to play there. I can see how playing there a few times can really help your score. I didn't know where the 18 green was and took the high side were if you played there before you would not hit were I did. I had to lay up were my friends went for the green. I can't wait to play it again!!!
Solid course
This course is generally in very good shape. Though they are still battling issues with a t box or fairway or two from the change in ownership a few years ago. But the greens are really nice and consistent. The course is fairly challenging. Beautiful track of land with virtually no homes. I think the prices are bit high -- especially in the off season months. They do a good job trying to keep the pace of play around 4 hours. But generally it is still 4.5 during busy times.
It is my second favorite course to play. Stonewall still holds the title.
Good round
The course layout is flat but strategic. This course is great for benchmark to measure up my skill. Will be back in order to make 70s again.
excellent greens
beautiful course layout. Excellent greens. Friendly personnel
Fun Course
The only negative thing I could say about this course is that you are unable to walk. It is both beautiful and cleverly designed. It has a great mix of challenging and forgiving and has one of my favorite finishing holes in the area.
The course was in good condition for the time of the year.
The facilities were great and the staff was very cordial. Course was in good condition.
Fantastic experience playing the course!!!!
I travel a lot and play courses all over the US and this course is definitely in my top 10! Beautiful course layout, with some holes more challenging then others. Greens make or break it for me and the greens at bull run were great!!! I think they were running a 10.5 the day I played.
Great course layout
This course is in really great shape and plays long. Greens are in great shape and fast. .Overall ***** stars.................
the course is in great condition.
I hihgly recommend Bull Run. Greta practice area and range balls are included.
Great play at twilight.
I had been wanting to play Bull Run all summer and it was just to expensive for me. I found a twilight tee time on golf now for 30 bucks and couldn't pass on it. It's hard to believe but I teed off at 4:30 and was able to get in 18 holes before it got dark around 6:45. This is definitely a place I plan to play again.
Worth the drive from Maryland
Played after a very wet weekend so course was cart path only and round took longer than usual. However the layout was nice with a few very scenic holes. Played the back tees but didn't feel like the 6961 yds was a problem. Generous fairways. Good short game practice area.
Great condition despite the recent rains
Overall, course was in great condition despite the recent rains. It was still cart-path only, which was fine since the fairways were obviously soggy as evidenced by no roll on drives and plenty of plugs if hit short. Nonetheless, it was a great round. Only issue was pace of play. Despite the starter saying it was wide open and I would have no issues as a single, there was a foursome that was slowing play down. I started off the back and I wonder if the foursome ignored those directions and started on the front since I hadn't seen them until I made the turn. Nevertheless, there was no marshall to move play along so the round went 4 hrs when I was on pace for 3. Not a major issue but holds me back from giving an excellent rating.
Great track, layout, and scenery of the mountains. Bunkers needed work.
Give the course a 4 overall for its layout, overall conditions, great greens, beautiful course a must play in Northern VA. Was 2 days after heavy rains came through and course was dry except bunkers; some had standing water, some washed out, and some were hard pan. Thought they could've done more to get them ready for play.
Enjoyable and well maintained.
The staff was friendly and attentive and the course was well maintained. Greens were a moderate speed and the layout was quite straightforward for someone playing it for the first time. I would recommend this course to a friend for the experience. Hole 9 and 18 especially were challenging holes. I loved 18 as a finisher because it required excellent golf management, but did not demand perfect shot-making.
