Bull Run Golf Club
About
Situated in the foothills of Bull Run Mountain, Bull Run Golf Club has a beautiful woodland setting that is conveniently located just minutes from many historic Civil War sites. The course plays through mature forests and across lush, grassy meadows. There are also several ponds that come into play throughout. The expansive layout covers over 450 acres, allowing plenty of room for the native flora and fauna. The risk-reward layout has plenty of challenges for more daring hitters but it also offers wide fairways that are molded to steer the ball towards the center. The landing areas are generous but they are often framed by grassy hollows, bunkers, or mature trees. Bull Run is challenging, but playable, which is why the club is considered one of the best golf courses in the D.C. area.

great course, even wet it played true.
Great course, even wet it played true. I would make this one of my go to courses.
great course with pratice range.
awesome course, but bee on the green was horrible. I only paid $33 so was super great deal.
A great value, interesting layout, moderate difficulty, not crowded, reasonably fast play.
Staff is freindly, and courteous, carts are clean, layout is challenging but not too hard for average golfers. Play moves well we experienced no stoppage or delays. Clubhouse is new with a nice sized Pro Shop.....will definitely play again.
Good view and wide open of fairways.
Tee to green - good.
Greens are slow most likely due to hot temp.
Attention needed on some greens due wasp holes.
Range balls included in green fee.
Practice area satisfactory.
Pace of play good.
Great course, very good pace of play for Sunday
Been playing Bull Run for about 12 years. Great course, as always. Fairways were excellent, Greens were good - but very slow today.
PUT SOME SAND IN THE TRAPS!!! With the entire course being good-to-excellent Bull Run staff should be embarrassed with the lack of sand in the traps.
you must manage shots on some holes to score.
I have always liked this course, the fairways were good but players didn't fix ball marks, without golf now I wouldn't be able to afford Bull Run country club.
On a super hot day the staff is really attentive
The drinks cart came around often and, more impressive, another cart came around with cold towels!
Golfnow does it again!
Very nice, well maintained course that was wide open (99 degrees with heat index) and had fairways that were wide open as well. Not too much trouble or water carry to speak of. I had a very enjoyable round out at Bull Run Golf Club.
Great Course but slow play
Bull Run in my opinion is the best in the area. Challenging and at the same time forgiving is you miss hit. The course needs a marshall to keep the pace moving. At times (3 to 4 holes) there where three foursomes on a hole. On # 18 there where four foursomes. 18 needs to be re - teed...Make it faster. We spent 45 minutes on that hole alone. I still love the course and will play.
in much better overall condition under new management team...good fairways, good teens
played morning of July 10th.... after a very wet week course stood up very well. very generous fairways have excellent grass, two cuts of rough made slight misses playable and deep misses difficult. Greens in very good shape, ball runs quite true.. subtle breaks make green-reading crucial to good scoring here
traps could be a bit more consistent in depth of sand but overall, a great value for the golfnow.com price (a bit high ''off the street" particularly given the fact that anyone coming from DC area has to drive by a number of courses of similar quality to get to BullRun)
pro shop & grill room staff very friendly/helpful
recommend course w/ enthusiasm for its beauty and its layout
great course
great layout and wide fairways! Did not see a marshal but pace of play was good.
Very nice course however the greens were slow due to heavy down pour the day before. Other than that I would recommend this course highly.

They brought this great course back to life!
This was always a favorite course of mine until a few years ago, when it became neglected. But now, I guess under new management, it is back and better than before.
My only negative would be the speed of the greens. Although they attributed the speed to the amount of rain they received, I believe they are just not cut short enough and they should be rolled in the mornings.
It's a diamond in "Hay"market
This course in very playable yet challanging.
It's truly on my list of favorites now. I'll be back!
challenging , but fair to the mid to high handicap er.
First time playing here since this winter. Boy what a treat, the course was beautiful. And as for the staff , they came out on course to bring wet ice cold towels as it was very hot!!! If you get the chance to visit don't miss it.
Challenging but Fair
The course was very well maintained and the layout was fair. This being the first time playing the course, I was able to select the right clubs for each shot without too much difficulty. There were only a couple of holes that required prior course knowledge in order to select the right club. The landing areas on the course were very open and inviting so you did not have to be pin point precise with your drive. This made the round fun as you were not penalized for being slightly off target.
Nice course + facilities. Play before all the houses go up!
Bull Run GC has always been a mediocre/nice course. Since it has come under Raspberry Golf Management the quality of the course and facilities as steady gone up in quality (and price). The course is an enjoyable semi-modern design with a number of forced carries over water or waste/environmentally protected areas. On this day the greens were receptive but almost painfully slow. The fairways and rough were lush without any of the typical July burnt edges.
The two minor gripes are as follows. Firstly, I was playing in a foursome with middle-aged husband and wife (both playing the appropriate tees) and another friend. By the 4th or 5th hole there was a 3-some behind us practically crawling up our butts for the last few holes of the front 9. We played the front 9 in 2hrs 15 minutes. On a Sunday. In the middle of the day. We let them pass us at the turn and after they were off the 10th green we never saw them again. On the back 9 we got another 3-some behind us that did the same exact thing for the last few holes of the back 9. Our total playing time was 4.5 hours with a few extra holes as cart path only. I play pretty quick when no one is in front of me and I've played in slow foursomes but playing 18 in the middle of a Sunday in July in 90+ degree weather in 4.5 hours is pretty good/normal pace. So, I must have missed the memo saying it was the Sunday to play a sub-4 hour round. Sorry.
The second thing is the construction of houses around the land of the course. As the economy has picked back up the developers think it's time to start building huge homes on 3-4 acre lots around the course. You can already see many of the lots being cleared and the clean, visual nature of the course changing. The exact same thing happened to Raspberry Falls; used to have stunning views and could see across fairways, etc. Now you can hit your terrible drives out of people's back yards. I fear the time is now to play Bull Run before the natural beauty of the course is compromised forever. The course will be completely different when you're aiming at chimneys instead of trees.
Bull Run in top condition
Golf course was in great shape. Pace of play was nice for a Sunday morning. Keep up the conditions! We were all impressed.
Great Value as a Hot Deal!
The course in general is a fantastic course & even better when bought under a hot deal. We were a twosome playing behind a fourball on a Friday & we still finished the round in 4 hours. The greens are in great shape & they roll true.
Solid course even in very wet conditions
After waiting for the heavy morning rains to stop - and they were heavy - the two of us teed off. Understandably, the course was very wet, but drained well as there was standing water in the fairway in only one place we saw. Still, the ground was squishy-wet so it was a cart-path-only day. Even so, we were able to finish the round in a little over 3 hours. The greens were in really good shape and rolled true, but unfixed ball marks were fairly common even on a low-traffic day. Tee boxes were fine, but the fairways were pocked with divots - some had been filled with the sand provided, but several were not. Still, neither of us stopped in a divot. Fairway and green bunkers were very wet (again, no real surprise with the morning weather), but were rockier than I would have expected at a nice course. This is a nice course for a reasonable price ($55 weekend on GolfNow), and is a good test of golf that's not too punishing from the white tees. Staff was very friendly, especially despite having to deal with a lot of uncertainty, rain checks and cancellations. Nice deck to sit on and watch the golfers coming into 18 over water.
