Bull Run Golf Club
About
Situated in the foothills of Bull Run Mountain, Bull Run Golf Club has a beautiful woodland setting that is conveniently located just minutes from many historic Civil War sites. The course plays through mature forests and across lush, grassy meadows. There are also several ponds that come into play throughout. The expansive layout covers over 450 acres, allowing plenty of room for the native flora and fauna. The risk-reward layout has plenty of challenges for more daring hitters but it also offers wide fairways that are molded to steer the ball towards the center. The landing areas are generous but they are often framed by grassy hollows, bunkers, or mature trees. Bull Run is challenging, but playable, which is why the club is considered one of the best golf courses in the D.C. area.

Best place to play in Northern VA
With the rolling hills, undulating greens, and picturesque views, Bull Run offers a unique golf experience one might expect to find at the most exclusive private clubs. The staff is friendly, courteous, and committed to providing the customer with the best possible golf experience.
Great Course - Fast play - Terrible Bunkers
Overall, the course was in great condition. Tee boxes were is great shape, the fairways were very good, and the greens ran 9 or 10, with no bare spots. The only complaint that I have, was the bunkers. They were terrible. I know you aren't supposed to be in the bunkers, but still, it was almost unacceptable. They were dirt, and some had baseball-sized rocks on the surface. That being said, everything else was fantastic. We played in 4 hours, no issues with groups ahead or behind. We had an excellent breakfast sandwich at the turn. The staff was very friendly.
Lacks Customer Service
Don't go to this place, if you think customer service is their top priority. Very rude front desk. Water jugs not filled. Driving range, which is supposed to be free, doesn't have balls at the range to be hit. You have to go back to the pro shop, which is a 2 minute ride on your cart, to inform them. They don't seem to care. Also, don't bother to ask for a rate for a re-play....they just want to charge you the same...even when the course is empty. I won't go back. The pro shop staff is very rude. They don't act like they need the business, so my crew won't be returning.
not bad
overall a nice place to play a little on the expensive. Greens were punched a month ago and roll well. If you are looking for a grip it and rip it place to play with the chance to shoot low this is the place. Nicer to play in the evening for pace of play and beautiful views of the mountain. Changing leaves were a nice touch.
Good course, well maintained.
Played Labor Day, took 5 hours because a slow foursome was ahead and always looking for balls. No marshall around to speed things up. Course was in good condition and greens in good shape. Got a good deal on GolfNow for one golfer and jumped in with a threesome. Worked out well, the rough can get high andt it can be difficult to get out if you miss fairways. White tees played closer that day than usual. This helped on #4 hole where there is normaly a bit of carry distance to get through.
fun course
Very open, if you miss it is still playable. Super nice cart path, very nice set up. I definitly will be playing here again. I do not think it is $99 dollars good, but the golf now discount definitly makes it worth playing. The 18 hole is a great way to finnish up a round.
Fairways appear to have some issues with grass. Maybe a fungus
I have played Bull Run several times this year and a couple of times a year the last several years. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Maybe it has something to do with their affiliation with Raspberry Trail group. I have played a couple of the other courses in the group and found the staff to be terrific. While there was some grass issues in the fairways overall the course is maintained very well.
Enough layout variety to be good fun. Worth the drive from FairfaxCounty and D.C.
Sunday afternoon round, so no comment on pace of play. Course was well maintained. Fairways somewhere between average and soft. Very nice practice areas and complimentary range. I will play it again.
it's becoming poor
It's one of the nice courses in the DC area. Green is fast and challenging enough to be fun. However, the condition of grass is getting worse each time I play there and I don't see any sign of fixing the issue. Also the paying time per hole is increasing with no sign of ranger time to time. I didn't mind paying full fee before but these days it's not worth the full fee due to the poor condition and slow play.
One of my favorite courses in NOVA
A bit of a hike from inside the beltway, but well worth the drive. My favorite part of this course is probably the fact that you see maybe 1-2 houses through the entire round. Can't stand playing through neighborhoods as you often do at DC/NOVA courses, so this is a welcome change from the norm. Course was in pretty good shape considering the amount of rain recently (though they appear to be having trouble with some type of wasp that's burrowing into a handful of the greens#. Fairways are quite forgiving/fair on tee shots, but there's also some pretty interesting holes ##8 is a drivable par 4 dog leg down to a green that backs up to a large pond, #18 is a beautiful but challenging par 5 with a risk/reward second shot over a large water hazard). Definitely recommended, especially if you can grab one of the discounted GolfNow tee times in the $55-65 range.
This course is a great layout and fun to play
The combination of a great staff, good barbeque, interesting layout of good golf holes and good conditions made this an excellent day of golf. Exceptional value.
Good mix of length and accuracy
Great layout, not a lot of hidden surprises....you can see from the tee what lies ahead, you just need to execute the shot. Bunkers are well placed and will turn an short Par 4 into a double bogey.
Staff was friendly and range was decent. Greens were fairly quick, considering it was raining lightly most of the day, Great finishing hole...,risk/reward Par 5. Great GN rate for a Sunday, I'll be back here again soon
Great course, despite the weather.
Had a great round at BR on Sunday, 8-18-13. Despite the course taking a bunch of rain the greens still have some speed and the overall quality of the course was maintained well.
Great Spot
For a reasonable price, this course offers a great deal of variety without being gimmicky. The finishing Par 5 18th is a real treat, requiring a sweetly struck teeshot to get close enough to the lake to be able to carry it. I got to within 20 yards and still barely hit my 4 hybrid into the near-side rough. It also offers the option of going over the lake away from the hole, a much easier shot, but leaving a much harder 3rd. Either way, it is a great risk/reward hole. Otherwise, bunkers are well placed and will punish offline tee shots, but the course is never unfair. The hole difficulty ratings are somewhat inaccurate in my opinion (the final hole ranks 8th hardest, should be at least 3rd), but this is almost not worth noting. Either way, for golfers just starting to break 100 to those playing scratch, this is a great course.
Great value
I have played this course many times. It is a great value when you book thru GolfNow.com I am a 18 hdcp and the white tees are fairly easy, blue tee are challenging. I have never played a round that took over 4:15 min
Nice course
Good course, and is a lot of fun to play. Access to free grass practice range when paying for a round is a bonus.
Bull Run Aerated Greens
Overall my group was disappointed on 8/9/2013 because the greens were aerated and we were not notified by staff prior to paying and playing. It baffled all of us as we've not known any courses to aerate green in the middle of the summer. Being new to the area wasn't sure if this was normal, so I called a few other courses and they don't aerate again until September. Also, there was no indication on golfnow that the greens were under maintenance, which definitely would have affected our decision to pay full afternoon rate for Bull Run vs another comparably priced course. I've played this course one time previously so I would recommend playing the course but call first on conditions before booking tee time.
Great Course
First time on the course, it was a great play. The staff was very friendly. The carts are nice, the putting green is very nice. The range could use a little work, it has been torn up this summer, but OK if you can find a grassy spot. The course was in good shape, even with the extremely wet weather we've had this summer. The tees, fairways, and greens were in great shape. A few areas around some greens need some work, but they are trying to fix them. I would highly recommend, I will be back!
This is good golf course, play is fun and good.
Golf course is good but now is maintance of green and fairway.
Feature is good condition.
I like that course.
Very Scenic, helpful staff
Real nice course, greens were in great shape. Some great water holes added to the experience. Staff was very accommodating, booked a tee time for 3 people, and one of my A-hole friends thought it was wise to show up with a 4th unannounced. The staff managed to make it work even though they were booked solid for the afternoon. Definitely going back again, just not with that friend...
