Bull Run Golf Club
About
Situated in the foothills of Bull Run Mountain, Bull Run Golf Club has a beautiful woodland setting that is conveniently located just minutes from many historic Civil War sites. The course plays through mature forests and across lush, grassy meadows. There are also several ponds that come into play throughout. The expansive layout covers over 450 acres, allowing plenty of room for the native flora and fauna. The risk-reward layout has plenty of challenges for more daring hitters but it also offers wide fairways that are molded to steer the ball towards the center. The landing areas are generous but they are often framed by grassy hollows, bunkers, or mature trees. Bull Run is challenging, but playable, which is why the club is considered one of the best golf courses in the D.C. area.

Well maintained great layout
Bull Run is a fantastic course. Fairways and greens are in great condition. Everyone at the club was really friendly. Tee off was at 8:00 am and I was home in Arlington by 1:00 NFL kickoff. Pace of play was outstanding
The course requires all shots.
Much better than 5 years ago. Was taken over. Would give guidance for hole 18.
The views make this course a phenomenal deal.
Bull Run is in the shadow of Bull Run Mountain, site of one of the many famous Civil War battles that shaped Northern Virginia. The course is always in pristine condition: fairways trimmed, greens rolled tight and smooth, bunkers free of impediments. It is the best course for the money in Northern Virginia, and a must-play for any golfer. Play the white tips, or blue if you dare. But the black are set back far enough to cause you trouble if you have a double-digit handicap. There is water on about 7-8 holes, including your drive off of #1, and your second - if you dare - into #18.
Good course, wide open, golfer friendly!
Will definitely play here again. Tough to find a course in the area that is this nice, this reasonable and this playable.
Blue Ridge Mtns.
After driving past this course for years I finally got a decent price on this web site...pleasantly surprised. Nice layout, scenic, and in very good condition. Staff could not have been more accommodating. When I get another decent price on this site I'll do it again.
11 handicapper here. Course was in great shape, also went to fitting studio and got to try out a 913 driver for the day! Great staff and help!!
Pace of play was slow for a Wednesday noon t time. Lots of senior golfers that slowed pace down but overall a good day. Greens are very nice, some t boxes were getting fixed but in better shape than Westfields was 3 weeks ago for 1/3 the price. Under new ownership and it shows with excellence! Highly recommend.
Fun, Challenging, Wide Open
This is a very playable course, that does present some challenges even for the better players. Very little if any trouble to get in to from the tees as the course has wide, forgiving fairways. Greens can be tricky to putt. tees and fairways in good condition and the greens were excellent. Full and fast.
great course & friendly staff
great course with great views, wide open fairways-drivers dream course, top 5 golf course in the area.
Beautiful Course, Good Value, Great Condition
I am in the D.C. area on business and asked the advice of some folks on a course to play. Bull Run came up from almost everyone and for good reason. It is a beautiful and fair course, immaculately maintained, even the morning after 1" plus of rain the course was very playable. Greens are pristine. I will definitely play here again on my next visit to D.C. if I can.
Spend your money elsewhere
I have been in the DC area for about a year now. I have played some excellent courses, and I was excited to have an opportunity to play Bull Run after reading some positive reviews about it. I played on sunday, 9/15, and I was disappointed to say the least.
First and foremost, the pace of the round was brutal. I understand that it was a sunday, and that you should expect it to be slow. However, this round barely even crawled by. Waited on almost every tee box. There was a 3 group lineup on the 18th hole. We waited 30 minutes to tee off.
I also thought that the condition of the course was fair at best. I would never pay the 95$ asking price that you tend to find on golfnow. Personally, I paid $69 for my round, and I would never pay that much money again to play this course. I think that the management here really needs to get things headed in the direction of Raspberry - a course that I would play any day of the week.
Best place to play in Northern VA
With the rolling hills, undulating greens, and picturesque views, Bull Run offers a unique golf experience one might expect to find at the most exclusive private clubs. The staff is friendly, courteous, and committed to providing the customer with the best possible golf experience.
Great Course - Fast play - Terrible Bunkers
Overall, the course was in great condition. Tee boxes were is great shape, the fairways were very good, and the greens ran 9 or 10, with no bare spots. The only complaint that I have, was the bunkers. They were terrible. I know you aren't supposed to be in the bunkers, but still, it was almost unacceptable. They were dirt, and some had baseball-sized rocks on the surface. That being said, everything else was fantastic. We played in 4 hours, no issues with groups ahead or behind. We had an excellent breakfast sandwich at the turn. The staff was very friendly.
Lacks Customer Service
Don't go to this place, if you think customer service is their top priority. Very rude front desk. Water jugs not filled. Driving range, which is supposed to be free, doesn't have balls at the range to be hit. You have to go back to the pro shop, which is a 2 minute ride on your cart, to inform them. They don't seem to care. Also, don't bother to ask for a rate for a re-play....they just want to charge you the same...even when the course is empty. I won't go back. The pro shop staff is very rude. They don't act like they need the business, so my crew won't be returning.
not bad
overall a nice place to play a little on the expensive. Greens were punched a month ago and roll well. If you are looking for a grip it and rip it place to play with the chance to shoot low this is the place. Nicer to play in the evening for pace of play and beautiful views of the mountain. Changing leaves were a nice touch.
Good course, well maintained.
Played Labor Day, took 5 hours because a slow foursome was ahead and always looking for balls. No marshall around to speed things up. Course was in good condition and greens in good shape. Got a good deal on GolfNow for one golfer and jumped in with a threesome. Worked out well, the rough can get high andt it can be difficult to get out if you miss fairways. White tees played closer that day than usual. This helped on #4 hole where there is normaly a bit of carry distance to get through.
fun course
Very open, if you miss it is still playable. Super nice cart path, very nice set up. I definitly will be playing here again. I do not think it is $99 dollars good, but the golf now discount definitly makes it worth playing. The 18 hole is a great way to finnish up a round.
Fairways appear to have some issues with grass. Maybe a fungus
I have played Bull Run several times this year and a couple of times a year the last several years. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Maybe it has something to do with their affiliation with Raspberry Trail group. I have played a couple of the other courses in the group and found the staff to be terrific. While there was some grass issues in the fairways overall the course is maintained very well.
Enough layout variety to be good fun. Worth the drive from FairfaxCounty and D.C.
Sunday afternoon round, so no comment on pace of play. Course was well maintained. Fairways somewhere between average and soft. Very nice practice areas and complimentary range. I will play it again.
it's becoming poor
It's one of the nice courses in the DC area. Green is fast and challenging enough to be fun. However, the condition of grass is getting worse each time I play there and I don't see any sign of fixing the issue. Also the paying time per hole is increasing with no sign of ranger time to time. I didn't mind paying full fee before but these days it's not worth the full fee due to the poor condition and slow play.
