Bull Run Golf Club
About
Situated in the foothills of Bull Run Mountain, Bull Run Golf Club has a beautiful woodland setting that is conveniently located just minutes from many historic Civil War sites. The course plays through mature forests and across lush, grassy meadows. There are also several ponds that come into play throughout. The expansive layout covers over 450 acres, allowing plenty of room for the native flora and fauna. The risk-reward layout has plenty of challenges for more daring hitters but it also offers wide fairways that are molded to steer the ball towards the center. The landing areas are generous but they are often framed by grassy hollows, bunkers, or mature trees. Bull Run is challenging, but playable, which is why the club is considered one of the best golf courses in the D.C. area.

challenging , but fair to the mid to high handicap er.
First time playing here since this winter. Boy what a treat, the course was beautiful. And as for the staff , they came out on course to bring wet ice cold towels as it was very hot!!! If you get the chance to visit don't miss it.
Challenging but Fair
The course was very well maintained and the layout was fair. This being the first time playing the course, I was able to select the right clubs for each shot without too much difficulty. There were only a couple of holes that required prior course knowledge in order to select the right club. The landing areas on the course were very open and inviting so you did not have to be pin point precise with your drive. This made the round fun as you were not penalized for being slightly off target.
Nice course + facilities. Play before all the houses go up!
Bull Run GC has always been a mediocre/nice course. Since it has come under Raspberry Golf Management the quality of the course and facilities as steady gone up in quality (and price). The course is an enjoyable semi-modern design with a number of forced carries over water or waste/environmentally protected areas. On this day the greens were receptive but almost painfully slow. The fairways and rough were lush without any of the typical July burnt edges.
The two minor gripes are as follows. Firstly, I was playing in a foursome with middle-aged husband and wife (both playing the appropriate tees) and another friend. By the 4th or 5th hole there was a 3-some behind us practically crawling up our butts for the last few holes of the front 9. We played the front 9 in 2hrs 15 minutes. On a Sunday. In the middle of the day. We let them pass us at the turn and after they were off the 10th green we never saw them again. On the back 9 we got another 3-some behind us that did the same exact thing for the last few holes of the back 9. Our total playing time was 4.5 hours with a few extra holes as cart path only. I play pretty quick when no one is in front of me and I've played in slow foursomes but playing 18 in the middle of a Sunday in July in 90+ degree weather in 4.5 hours is pretty good/normal pace. So, I must have missed the memo saying it was the Sunday to play a sub-4 hour round. Sorry.
The second thing is the construction of houses around the land of the course. As the economy has picked back up the developers think it's time to start building huge homes on 3-4 acre lots around the course. You can already see many of the lots being cleared and the clean, visual nature of the course changing. The exact same thing happened to Raspberry Falls; used to have stunning views and could see across fairways, etc. Now you can hit your terrible drives out of people's back yards. I fear the time is now to play Bull Run before the natural beauty of the course is compromised forever. The course will be completely different when you're aiming at chimneys instead of trees.
Bull Run in top condition
Golf course was in great shape. Pace of play was nice for a Sunday morning. Keep up the conditions! We were all impressed.
Great Value as a Hot Deal!
The course in general is a fantastic course & even better when bought under a hot deal. We were a twosome playing behind a fourball on a Friday & we still finished the round in 4 hours. The greens are in great shape & they roll true.
Solid course even in very wet conditions
After waiting for the heavy morning rains to stop - and they were heavy - the two of us teed off. Understandably, the course was very wet, but drained well as there was standing water in the fairway in only one place we saw. Still, the ground was squishy-wet so it was a cart-path-only day. Even so, we were able to finish the round in a little over 3 hours. The greens were in really good shape and rolled true, but unfixed ball marks were fairly common even on a low-traffic day. Tee boxes were fine, but the fairways were pocked with divots - some had been filled with the sand provided, but several were not. Still, neither of us stopped in a divot. Fairway and green bunkers were very wet (again, no real surprise with the morning weather), but were rockier than I would have expected at a nice course. This is a nice course for a reasonable price ($55 weekend on GolfNow), and is a good test of golf that's not too punishing from the white tees. Staff was very friendly, especially despite having to deal with a lot of uncertainty, rain checks and cancellations. Nice deck to sit on and watch the golfers coming into 18 over water.
What you see is what you get.
Very nice layout with reasonable landing areas off the tee. Could not recall many blind shots. Despite much rain over previous days, fairways and greens rolled out well. Interesting to see how the views change when homes start going up.
Love this course
I enjoy everything about Bull Run, It is currently in the best condtion it has ever been in. Each hole is unique and memorable. Fantastic set of finishing holes. Great ptactice area. Highly recommend.
Great course
We played on July 4th, and finished in just over 4 hours. The course was in great shape from Tees to Greens. Staff was extremely friendly. The course has some short holes but is generally challenging off the tee. The layout is great, no holes running side by side with stray balls coming into your fairway. However, this also causes lost balls if you spray them right or left off the tee.
I would highly recommend Bull Run to anyone who is not a beginner.
Great afternoon of Golf, Food and Fun
Enjoyed playing Bull Run on a great June afternoon. Had a quick lunch before our round which was very good and the servers were attentive to our requests. Course got us checked in and out on the well set up practice area quickly. We started on time and made decent time around the course. Pace was a little slow but tolerable for us. Course was in very good condition and was well maintained. It was nice to have the staff members stop by and chat with us during the round. Every member of the staff was friendly and acted as if they cared about us playing the course. I believe at the rate we paid we got a very nice course at a good value. Thanks
A Very nice Course
What a beautiful course. From the Tee boxes to the greens, everything was in great condition. The pace of play was great. We played at 8:45 Saturday morning and didn't have slow play on any holes . The price to play was high, but the course is worth it.
Will play there again.
18 great holes, definitely worth the price
A very fine golf course that takes advantage of rolling hills and woods to create a challenge yet still provides plenty of opportunity to score. Conditions are excellent. Well staffed and great practice facility.
Average
I was thinking the entire time I was playing this course what could they do to improve the course, and what is missing that would make it a great course. I couldnt think of any one thing. But the fact that I was thinking about this at all lets you understand that the course didnt captivate me. Something is missing there; I just dont know what it is.
Was it fun? Yes. Is it a place that you absolutely have to play? No. But you can't go that wrong if its the only time available to play.
Very good course
The course is in really good conditions! Too many players are not fixing their ball marks on the greens. Other than that it was a good course.
Good layout, great condition
I would certainly recommend this to a friend. The layout is a lot of fun and provides a lot of variation and interesting holes. The course was in excellent condition and the staff was very friendly. I really had no complaints at all. The slow pace of play was entirely down to the twosome we were paired with - even on a Saturday morning, I'm confident we could have played a four hour round if those two had had it together.
Nice Greens
Overall the course a Bull Run was great and I would happily play there again. The course was in good to excellent shape and it had some really good greens. A few holes had some construction work going as it looks like they are starting to build some estate size homes around the course. Pace of play was good, we didn't have to wait on the group in front of us and weren't being pushed by the group behind us. The only odd thing came at the end of the round. They had carts blocking the exits to the parking lot rows, the last row only had cones so we drove between two to get out. Not sure what that was all about since there was plenty of open parking spaces around.
Just Continue to Enjoy Bull Run Golf!
What's not to like? Mountains...Rolling VA countryside; wonderfully-maintained course; challenging but not overly so; and five minutes from my home!
Shhhhhhhhh--don't tell many folks about it!!
Good layout and challenging
Unfortunately the prior weather conditions limitted use to cart path only and made for alot of walking. Overall the course was above average.
Good Course
I've played this course a few times and this past time was the best I've seen it. I think I enjoyed it a little more because we got a great deal for $65 compared to the normal $95 it costs.
Anyway, once every now and then it's a great course to get out and play at. No blind shots, which is always a plus. Distances play true. Greens roll great, but are quick.
Fun layout
Challenging, but fair. Starter and marshall's keep pace of play moving.
