Delaware Springs Golf Course
About
Named after the springs that snake through the layout, Delaware Springs Golf Course is a scenic links-style track that is one of the better values in Texas golf. The low prices and friendly service, combined with a picturesque and challenging golf course, make this a Hill Country favorite.
Architects Dave Axland and Dan Proctor built a natural-looking course that fits the terrain perfectly. The course is nestled into the rolling hills and oak trees along the Highland Lakes, playing 6,891 yards from the tips. During your round you’ll encounter lush fairways frequently loaded with bunkers, large greens that slope severely, and numerous bump and run shots. The designers added a few original touches, such as the descriptive Scottish names for each hole (the 18th is called "Hame" for the home hole).
Another interesting design twist involved placing the signature hole as the opener. Playing 504 yards to a par 5, no. 1 is best attacked with an iron into the left side of a sloping, tree-lined fairway. The creek cuts into the landing area, making it a testy tee shot. The second shot must bend around the dogleg to the left and over the creek, and the approach is into the green shaded by large trees on the right.

Never see one on course Photo submitted by mhughesgolf on 06/13/2015
Great Shape!
Love the course. Greens are amazing. Staff is never the friendliest and they allow lots of groups of 5 for some reason. But I ignore the attitude and go for the course and the deer. Fun course!
We're glad you enjoyed your 5-star experience with us. Please comment or reach out to our team in the golf shop to let us know more about your round at Delaware Springs Golf Course!
Worth the drive
Drove an hour to this course and I was not disappointed, great course layout. And the group I was paired up with was fantastic.
EthanB28, thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Delaware Springs Golf Course.
Great course at a great price!
First time playing Delaware Springs and it lived up to the hype from my friends who have played it previously. Friendly staffer Mike checked us in and had a pretty funny practical joke on me that my "buddies" set up! Nice carts (no GPS), better than average food/restaurant inside, and a good practice area. It had rained a good bit before our foursome teed off at 8:20, so it was cart path only for the day. Overall it was a very nice course. Fairly wide fairways, and several holes that are somewhat blind from the teebox. A second time around would definitely help in knowing where to hit your tee shot. Several short par 4's that weren't as easy to play as you'd think! Water only on the number 1 hole. Bunkers were nice and the fairways, even though dormant as you would expect in the winter in Texas, still had good lies on them in spite of the drought the last year or so. Greens nice and rolled well with quite a few subtle undulations on them. This is kind of a hidden gem just about an hour and a half northwest of Austin. I don't know if there are any better values for the condition, layout, and price of golf near Austin. Our group is ready to go back and play it again once the fairways green up this spring! No beverage cart yesterday was our only complaint, but the gals at the restaurant inside were really sweet and helpful! All in all a GREAT value for a very nice course!

Not Worth the Drive
I have been to this course twice. Note if you book through GolfNow prepare to be treated like a second class citizen, standard response to an issue is “you have to contact GolfNow”.
“PRICE INCLUDES GREEN FEE, SHARED GOLF CART, AND PRACTICE BALLS”, twice I forgot to ask for the practice balls, twice they didn’t offer practice balls.
Had a 1:40 tee time on a Saturday, should easily be able to play 18 before sunset. They had a tournament on the course, was informed at the club house that we may go off on hole 1 or 10 and that an announcement would be made. 1:40 rolls around so we headed out to the first tee box and were met by the marshal. Marshal informs us they still are not sure which hole we would start from and that the course closes at 5:30. Finally teed off at 2:20, waited at every tee box, waited in every fairway and finished nine at 4:55. Completing 18 was impossible so went to the clubhouse to get a refund for nine holes, “you have to contact GolfNow”. My buddy who is infinitely more patient than I, asked for merchandise, “no”. He did walk away with two vouchers that covered the cost of nine holes so that was a win?
Now I have to find someone willing to drive an hour to the course to use the vouchers, or go back. Not sure it is worth the drive, if I do I must remember to ask for the practice balls.

Great Greens, good people
Had a 12:36 tee time, got there by Noon and greeted w friendly staff and carts in good shape (no GPS if that matters to you). I was on the course by 1230 w 3 others I was paired up with. They were "somewhat regulars" and very helpful w course specifics. Quickly noticed good greens and Marshall was on course--2 big requirements. Good layout, good par 3's and 3 par 5's on front. Yardage was good; played from blues, and for a Saturday we were done in under 4 hours. Worth the trip if you are from ATX like myself.
Thanks so much for the great review, Kirkoman. We look forward to welcoming you back to our course soon. Thanks for choosing Delaware Springs Golf Course.
Good times!
The golf experience is always good every time we play. The staff and overall conditions of the course is always good. The price for a round is spot on. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for taking the time to review us, 2022Flyosu. Your feedback is valuable, and we appreciate your business. Delaware Springs Golf Course thanks you!
Winter Golf
We’ve all played golf in winter because here in Texas it’s basically like a colder version of spring. Most of the times the fairways are dry or worse dead grass and the greens are splotchy. Not here! Great effort has been taken to ensure a year round quality of golf.
Apart from young groundskeepers bludgeoning a sick possum at 8:30am it was a really nice day of golf

The Polished Rock
What used to be a "hidden gem" in the Texas Hill Country is now a polished rock!!! Recent improvements are remodeled and updated proshop and cafe area. The course is constantly tinkered with, sprinkler heads repaired, trees eliminated, re-planted and trimmed, bunkers maintained well, and for a Muni, some of the finest greens around. (Especially now since the freeze, they are rolling perfect!)
The folks in the proshop are always friendly and the crew in the cafe are as kind as can be! (PEOPLE!!! Tip them!)
Nice wide range of merchandise, clubs, caps, gloves and so on.
Disappointing
Pace of play was abominable. After the turn, we encountered at least 2 foursomes waiting on #10 tee box and a third that had just teed off. Problem is that #10 is a fairly short par 5 that too many average or below average golfers think about reaching in two. Creek crosses the fairway, and I suspect many golfers hit into that trying to cross it instead of laying up. We were not about to wait so we left after playing only 9 holes.
Just enough challenges for a country course.
Has it really been eight (8) years since I last played this course!? Well, it's just as I remember it. The club house is simple but certainly adequate and they have a decent grill for your dining/drinking pleasure.
I feel like this course has a higher number of senior golfers because the area has a high number of retirees ... with their own golf carts. But don't worry, they know the course and how to play it. They're likely to push you to pick up the pace instead of the other way around.
The putting green near the clubhouse has a little extra undulation in parts but that's good practice of which too many fail to take advantage. The driving range is also close by and can certainly handle getting you warmed up as needed. However, it likely maxes out around 235 yards and that's if you hit it straight to a small area. So perhaps stick to your 180 or less irons.
While this course gets a significant amount of play, the tee boxes are holding up well. Some felt a little hard ... hard to place a tee. You'll find plaques in the ground with yardage markings next to the tees so that can be helpful when you aren't looking at the scorecard, GPS, etc.
The fairways were cut well but I guess I have to blame 'winter conditions.' They're just a little hard ... lacking the softness of (growing) green grass. If you're a divot maker then this may not work well for you at this time. It's better for those who pick their balls a little cleaner. And you won't be playing out of the real rough much if at all. You'll be lucky to even find your ball in the high grass, cactus, thick brush, etc. This is the Hill Country after all. As for yardage markings, you do get sprinkler head distances. Those seem to be harder to find on so many courses I play. They don't use 150 yard poles but that's okay. I do wish they'd paint the red-white-blue-yellow stripes on the cart paths. Oh well, we can't have it all.
There is a scattering of bunkers around the course. They're well placed (in a bad way). So I found a couple. The sand was very fine and very dry but void of any rocks. So I can play those more or less.
Hole #1 is the only hole with a water hazard. It's a mossy little creek at the end of the downhill fairway that you have to carry in order to continue the par 5. I bombed a nice drive that rolled down to the flat area just a few yards short of the end of the fairway. Honestly, I'd forgotten I needed to hit a lesser club off the tee; haven't played the course in a long time. So I was thrilled with my "tee shot of the day" ... only to top the next ball into the water. Ugh. So much for having a chance to be putting for eagle.
The greens had been 'painted' around the edges but were all in really good shape. Unfortunately, the winter conditions aren't done yet so the greens felt a little harder than they might be when receiving more water. So they didn't hold the ball too well ... didn't see a single ball mark that needed fixing. And they were running fast today. That meant we played a lot of shots short on purpose and hoped for the best. And that, in the end, will certainly affect one's score. It is what it is.
Noticed large black tarps rolled up near every green on the course. It's great to see they're taking precautions during overnight freezing and/or morning frost conditions. Protecting the greens is vital since those are the most important parts of the course with respect to our game.
The course had coolers with cold water and cups on both 9's. They also had ball washers next to them. The carts did not have ball/club washers on them but did have two sand jugs and USB outlets. They also had the wider cup holders that I so prefer. And the brakes on these are nice because you just let the cart stop and don't have to engage (click) the brake. Sooooo nice in my opinion. It's the little things that make me happy sometimes. Ha!
Thank you for your review, u000007073637. We will pass along your positive experience and feedback to our team at Delaware Springs Golf Course. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
