About
Named after the springs that snake through the layout, Delaware Springs Golf Course is a scenic links-style track that is one of the better values in Texas golf. The low prices and friendly service, combined with a picturesque and challenging golf course, make this a Hill Country favorite.
Architects Dave Axland and Dan Proctor built a natural-looking course that fits the terrain perfectly. The course is nestled into the rolling hills and oak trees along the Highland Lakes, playing 6,891 yards from the tips. During your round you’ll encounter lush fairways frequently loaded with bunkers, large greens that slope severely, and numerous bump and run shots. The designers added a few original touches, such as the descriptive Scottish names for each hole (the 18th is called "Hame" for the home hole).
Another interesting design twist involved placing the signature hole as the opener. Playing 504 yards to a par 5, no. 1 is best attacked with an iron into the left side of a sloping, tree-lined fairway. The creek cuts into the landing area, making it a testy tee shot. The second shot must bend around the dogleg to the left and over the creek, and the approach is into the green shaded by large trees on the right.

Course was in excellent shape with recent rains, greens seemed slower than usual, very slow pace of play today.

Where’s the management
I’ve played Delaware Springs several times before. My friends and I USUALLY enjoy the course. Today was a s stark exception.
It had nothing to do with the conditions for the course or the weather.
It is about lack of course management/pace of play.
Clearly one of the local ‘men’s groups’ was doing an event (probably a frequent thing) that day. There were closest to the hole markers on par threes. Not a tournament, just a club outing of some sort. The guy in the pro shop even said “I think my seniors have made the turn, so you can go ahead and head out”. So something was going on.
Had several very slow groups ahead of us. Some of them were 5-deep (which is ridiculous) one allowed to play through, the others had no such etiquette.
A “Marshal” took my receipt, doing the starter role. Then disappeared. No one out there to monitor pace of play. HORRIBLE.
What makes it worse is that I called the day before when one my group got injured and couldn’t play. I advised them of this and asked if we could be moved to a different start time since it was a smaller group...might be better for them and us. (I checked their website first - LOTS of times were still open) I was told ‘Nope don’t have room to move you around’...I told them it could be earlier or later. Still NO. And there was no mention of the the time we did have being in the middle of this men’s club/group. Completely ridiculous and avoidable.
I’m not playing golf to be in any kind of hurry, but slow play and ‘5-somes’ are something altogether different.
At the next “team meeting” for the staff, maybe discuss the basics of management of play, start times, etc. I play all over the area and this was beyond the pale.

It’s okay
I live in Austin and I just don’t know if this is worth an hour drive. The course is well maintained and tricky but just lacks a little excitement and scenery. Staff were wonderful. We were fairly backed up right from the start, though. We tee’d off about 20 minutes late and we were an 8:30 am tee time. Slow the entire day. I’d rather play a course that is closer but overall this was worth the money for what you get

Great round at Delaware Springs
Course is in excellent condition, greens were unbelievable despite the 100+ degree heat we have had the last month. Finished in 3 hrs 15 min (foursome of very average golfers). Hamburgers after the round served in the grille rival any in the state of Texas, on or off a golf course.

Great shape
Course is in great shape. Greens are rolling fast and true. Fairways are pristine. Played as a single at lunchtime on a Saturday and felt like I had the course to myself. Caught up to a slower twosome and they were being held up by an even slower twosome in front of them. No biggy, just took my time, but I could see some people getting frustrated by that.
I’m in Austin and it’s well worth the drive. Go play it if you’re on the fence.

Great course, but slow play
As we made the turn we had two groups on the box waiting and a group of SIX finishing on the last green. Too far to drive to play 4.5 hour round.

My new home course
First time playing since moving to the area and what a nice surprise to find such a great course in a small town like Burnet. Greens were flawless, fairways in good shape and the holes offered a great variety and a fair test of all aspects of my game. I was a single and a threesome ahead encouraged me to join their group and were welcoming and full of course advice.

August 20 Review
the mens bathroom was disgusting, especially in the times of COVID, really bad guys. Course is in good shape, front nine was slow, the carts on path on hole 2 is ridiculous and contributed to slow play,
