Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

A really nice day golfing
A really fun day, though the course was kinda rouch it's laid out well and was a good workout.
Just really started up playing again this last year and this is only the second time playing a round this year.
NIce Layout - So-So Condition
Play was good, with enough challenge but enough forgiveness to be fun. Green conditions were fair, but still seemed to play OK. Other parts of the course were not too good. There were huge holes in the turf on and near fairways, and blocked off obstacles that should have been fixed instead of being blocked off.
Value would be super if range balls were included in the Hot Deal price. Having to buy range balls and pay tolls make the effective cost twice that of the Hot Deal green fee. I can't fathom paying full price ($42) for this course. Lago Vista and Crystal Falls are far better for that price.
Beware of unseen water crossing
This course without a yardage book can drive you nuts. Water crossings in the normal landing areas. Fairways left a lot to be desired. Greens however were okay....
Fun course
Had a good time. Will definitely come back and play.
OK
Greens were just sanded and not bad the fair ways are in sad shape.Disappointed in the overall shape of the course this once was a very well maintained course, maybe the tough winter.
For the price it is not worth it.
Played this course many of times over the years and course has slowly deteriorated. Greens and fairways are in terrible shape. Some fairways only have half grass and other half dirt and rocks. I gave this course many chances but seems to disappoint me every time. I would rather play at any austin muni course than this one. Layout is good but conditions being bad takes away from it. Such a shame.
Bad Weather and the course didn't improve it
The weather was not ideal. It was a little windy with a fine mist when we started. The course had a lot of sand on the greens which makes for TERRIBLE puts all around. Combine that with pits in the fairways and rock boarders all around, and light rain make for a long day. Not sure I would suggest this place to friends.
A good day for golf
It was a good day for. Golf and an enjoyable experience.
Hang on to your money
I have played several courses in the Austin/Round Rock area since moving to Georgetown four years ago. I am an 8 handicap and have played golf for 37 years. This golf course has continued to go downhill in the past four years. Whether it is poorly managed or losing money and can't afford to take care of the grass, it is in poor condition, except for most of the greens. The tee boxes are not well-kept or shaped. The fairways are very poor, with several fairways suffering from erosion, hard and dry patches that have no grass and that are sizeable-like the size of your driveway or bigger-and two fairways that have manholes IN the middle of them that are at least a foot or two high; that I have never seen anywhere on any other golf course. There were only four ball washers out of 18 holes and three of the tee boxes had gravel, not sand, on them. None of the traps were playable, mainly because their compostion is dirt, not sand, and it appeared that the course was irrigated the night before, resulting in mud and puddle-filled bunkers. This course is in need of some real TLC, and I will certainly NOT be spending any more of my money or time there.
This course is improving
The course is improving, although the greens are difficult to read. Things should improve more as the weather warms and the fairways get greener.
Good Value and Friendly Staff
This course supposedly had recovered from bad condition from few years ago. It's in OK condition in my point of view except the bunker is still rocky and there are several roughs with lot of rocks. But for the price per round, it's worth going to.
Not what I was expecting
Original tee time was 9:20 was delayed an hour and a half because of a freeze warning. We were told that we would start at 10 then was told it would be 11, ended up starting at 10:50. We asked for range balls and were told we couldn't be on the range because of the freeze warning yet everybody that checked in after us ended up at the range. We finally were given one small basket for 3 people 10 minutes before the Marshall called us to start. Dead spots in the fairways, dirt/mud patches in the fairways and dead spots in the greens. Won't be back.
fast greens, big fairways,
Great time on the course. Only thing i didn't like was that there were several holes with houses along the entire fairway.
Nothing exciting about this course and a lot of work needs to be done
I'm not an expert Golfer by any means, but we like to grab last minute deals and go play 18 holes. This is the first that we've picked up on the GolfNow app that we've really been disenchanted with. The fairways were really rough, with large open patches of dirt with no grass. Construction in quite a few areas (including a collapsed bridge that you have to cross the course to detour). All bridges were 2x4 construction. No real scenic holes, and the majority of holes are just back and forth across a large field. I won't be going back.
Usually a nice course; took some storm damage recently.
Greens were okay but the fairways took a lot of damage from the recent storms. Will take some work to get it back up to par.
great
Enjoyed it. Will play again soon. Great staff. Beautiful.
Great Value
Blackhawk is one of the Austin area's better golf experiences for the money. While not the longest or most challenging corses in the area, Blackhawk usually has great greens and some challenging par threes. I first played Blackhawk in the '80's and played it recently for the first time in years. It was a nostalgic and entertaining 18
nice greens, course is getting better
Took a chance considering the previous reviews about the course being wet, but was pleasantly surprised. Didn't see any wet spots except for some of the bunkers that hadn't been filled in and sodded over. Greens were the best part of the course. Fairways are being worked on as well as filling in some of the bare spots between fairways with Zero landscape. Fairways 3,5,6,10 has bare spots and holes that could be filled in and sodded. Can see progress with the new management.
Needs maintenance
Greens good, but fairways have bare patches, some traps have little sand in them and do not drain. Traps need trimming, Clubhouse very dated, range balls awful. Parking lot has big pot holes.
Decent but could be better
Greens were in great condition but the fairways were very rough.
