The Ravines Golf Club
About
Ravines Golf Club is southwest Michigan's first Arnold Palmer signature course. The course is situated three hours outside of Detroit in Saugatuck. Thanks to wide fairways and generous landing areas, the layout is not as tough as it seems but it does have plenty of challenges in store. Strategically placed bunkers, mature trees, and wetlands all come into play throughout. There are some challenging holes on the front half, including the sixth and seventh, but the back nine opens with the golf course's toughest hole. The ninth is a long and difficult par 5 dogleg left where trees, water, and bunkers come into play. Ravines Golf Club's signature hole, though, is the par-3 17th, known for both its scenery and level of difficulty. This hole requires a risky shot over a ravine to one of the golf course's largest putting surfaces.

Challenging par 5 - tee shot over the ravine Photo submitted by u00000638985 on 06/03/2013
First Class Track
First time playing here, and we left impressed. We played the Blues and that was plenty challenging. It is not a course for folks with limited skill or newbies. It is built much like some of the famous resort courses in Northern MI and so plenty of ways to lose your ball - as it should be if you want to be challenged. Greens are in great shape - first course I have seen this year without any winter kill on the greens. Staff super friendly too; only bummer is the GPS system on the carts was down, but there are ample markers all over the fairways. A definite play again location.
Arnie did a good job
Played the Ravines for the first time on Father's Day and had an excellent time. The course is in excellent condition and with the exception of quite a few deer flies, couldn't have asked for a better day. Even though it is close to Lake Michigan, the big body of water didn't affect the temperature too much. There did seem to be more wind than expected which adds to the challenge.
Highly recommend the course.
Sunday afternoon
Played with my 19 year old son. Perfect night. Got stuck behind a couple slow people but still got done in 4 hours. Nice course!
Nice - but very slow
Nice course in good shape but played very very slow. Not a ranger on the course......
Arnold Palmer course
Our first time to play this course and it was on a level with Pilgrims Run . Each hole was all to itself so you never saw anyone else on the course.
Great Course and Great Staff
The Ravine was in great shape. The course featured large fairways and fast, true greens. Some of the tee shots are deceptive, but with GPS that gives distances to most landmarks I was able to choose the correct line off the tee most of the time, as it was my first time playing the course.. The staff was friendly and allowed me to go off early to avoid an outing that was scheduled for latter that day. I was able to get around in 3 hours. with only playing through only one group. I played Monday morning. The layout kept you from seeing other holes, though you could sometimes hear other groups. All in all it was a wonderful experience.
Great Design terrible maintenance up keep
This course has a great overall design and location but it is over priced for the condition of the grounds. The GPS doesn't work (our cart the GPS was literally duck taped on). Also, the grasses are not kept up ver well. The greens have mixed grasses and the fairways have balled spots. The course is not fogged and the bugs are very bad. This is a $35 course that they try to charge $60+ to play. I play a lot of courses every year that range from $125-200 per round. I don't mind paying at any level as long as you get what you pay for. This past weekend when I played it took 4 hours just to play the back 9 eventhough they had a starter on the 1st hole. The Ravines does not hold up their end of the offer considering the course condition. The other amenities are ok, although the bathrooms are often dirty.
Beautiful course!
One of the nicest courses I have played in Michigan. Challenging course but one can shoot well, especially on the front 9. Long par 5 on the back was my favorite hole. Course was in phenomenal shape! Highly recommend this course if in the Saugatuck area!
Fun, fun, fun
This is a fun and yet challenging course. The greens were young into the season and a little slow, but the course was in great shape. Pace of play was very good, we played on Mother's Day and they had cupcakes for us! There is no indication on pin placement and that can make club selection difficult. It would be nice to know if the pin is in the front, middle or back of the green.
Overall, it was great fun. I shot a 37 on the front!!!
Really nice course
Very scenic course through an upscale and still growing subdivision. You will not see houses on most holes but the ones you do see definately do not deteriorate from the appearance of the course. Fairways in good shape. Greens ran true on most holes. Some have funky green spots from either old fungus or snow mold. Play here as often as we find deals on Golfnow.
Great early season value
Great value at $30. Course played long because it was soft, but greens were receptive. Staff were great and helpful, too.
Excellent greens
First time playing this course. The greens were some of the best I've played in years & it was late April! Not too difficult; very generous fairways. Course was in great shape In April. Very playable course for all skill levels. I wish the ravines came into play more though. #9 is a nice hole. If you want course where ravines come into play, Diamond Springs is excellent & not too far away.
beautiful course with a great variety of challenging holes
Great late fall day for playing golf. The course was in very good shape for the time of the year. The pace of play was very good given conditions and challenging variety of holes and configuration. The staff was very cordial and accommodating. I would look forward to playing the Ravines many more times.
Have played this course often always superb conditions!
It's Fall but crews have maintained excellent control of leaves and the condition of the greens; also the colors are outstanding.
Steal of a deal!!
Most up scale courses like this have already begun to shut down for the year, or at least are not giving as many GolfNow.com deals. Thankfully, the people at The Ravines have chosen to let West Michigan golfers get some last swings in before the snow flies. For end of October golf, the course was just fine. Normal fall golf conditions (debris on the greens, damp spots, etc) but overall, great place to play. They can count on my business even at peak summer rates next year.
All youu can say is wow.
A true Palmer design. Fast but true greens, risk reward shots and a fantastic setting. Drove an hour to play this course and was thrilled I did. This is a must play if you are in the area.
The fairways were a little squishy due to recent rais, but all in all, a very enjoyable golf experience, Thanks, Golfnow
good staff, good course, many holes with carry over wetlands, probably too tough for a beginning player
Wonderful Views
Played this course on a Sunday afternoon. Beautiful views with fairways in pristine condition...so much so that it was difficult on many holes to distinguish between where the fairways ended and the greens began. Very little pressure from any other golf groups. Staff was very friendly and I got a good rate on Golfnow. The GPS was real handy when playing the course for the first time. Unfortunately they had just aerated and sanded the greens for fall, but it didn't detract from the experience. Definitely one of the best courses in West Michigan. I highly recommend playing this course. And yes the fairways are extremely wet, but I'm sure it's because of the large amount of sand in the soil being close to Lake Michigan.
Beautiful ang challenging
You'll love this course if your up for a challenge. Each hole provides a different challenge, and not a lot of room to spray.
Consider keeping your driver in the bag on several holes.
