Ravines Golf Club is southwest Michigan's first Arnold Palmer signature course. The course is situated three hours outside of Detroit in Saugatuck. Thanks to wide fairways and generous landing areas, the layout is not as tough as it seems but it does have plenty of challenges in store. Strategically placed bunkers, mature trees, and wetlands all come into play throughout. There are some challenging holes on the front half, including the sixth and seventh, but the back nine opens with the golf course's toughest hole. The ninth is a long and difficult par 5 dogleg left where trees, water, and bunkers come into play. Ravines Golf Club's signature hole, though, is the par-3 17th, known for both its scenery and level of difficulty. This hole requires a risky shot over a ravine to one of the golf course's largest putting surfaces.

alot of ravines

enjoyed the course. expected it to be better manicured. very hot week prior to play and it was a little dry.....Witnessed the most exciting shot of my 45 years of playing when my 16 year old son holed out a 160 yard shot on the first hole for a duece. Fun day.

Northern MIchigan golf without the drive

The staff at the Ravines is very friendly and full of smiles. Each hole on the course is bordered by woods or wetlands, providing ample privacy with no other holes in sight. Greens are speedy and undulating and in nice shape. Many well-placed bunkers. If you are a bogey or better golfer, play the blues. We played the whites, and it seemed a little short.

If I had to choose a negative, it would be that they were closing up the lounge at 7pm on a Friday, so we were unable to stick around for a beverage and bite afterward.

Fantastic value with GolfNow discount.

The Ravines has a very secluded feel. Cut into a forest, there are lots of trees which means trouble if you don't hit the fairway. The landing areas are generous, however. I'm an intermediate, mid-90s golfer and I didn't have too much trouble from the white tees. A lot of the greens are protected by fescue, though, which means you need to decide to either lay up or go for the green. I scored about five strokes higher than normal because of that, however I didn't mind as it's a fun course to play. You really need to think about your approach shots. We visit Saugatuck, MI annually and we'll definitely play The Ravines again.

Every hole is its own isolated feild,

I took a friend who said he would never pay $75.00 to golf, when we left after playing in rainy conditions, he said he would pay $75.00 for this course next time he comes here.

This course is one of the best in the area.

This is one of the great courses in SW Michigan. The course is always in great condition, and the staff couldn't be friendlier. Although the rates are a bit high for the area, I have played the course three times through GolfNow for almost 50% off, which makes playing there any amazing deal. I highly recommend this course if you are in the area.

Plenty of challenge

This course offers a challenge from whichever tees you wish to play. The blacks play from 7000+ (#14 can be a real beast if the wind is in your face). Course might be a little much for an average female golfer as "strategically" placed hazards might be a tough carry.

Challenging but rewarding

Course was in phenomenal condition. Staff was friendly and prompt. Pace of play was great. Layout is quite challenging with some very penal rough. Arnold claimed a couple of my ProV1s for himself, but all in all a great day. Definitely will be back.

Visually appealing and challenging to play.

Found The Ravines online and couldn't have been happier. The staff was very friendly upon arrival and the tee time was right on schedule. The course is challenging and hitting in play is a must. The fairways are wide, but if you hit right or left your ball is lost. Almost every shot requires a carry over a hazard, but not unfair carries and they actually add to the visual appeal of each hole. The greens are well protected by large sand traps and are fun to putt on. The pace of play was under 4 hours and you had the feel of being on the course with just your group. Enjoy!

great fairways, with plenty of challenge requiring you to keep the ball out of the roughs and fescue. Need to be a "straight shooter"

Beautiful looking sand traps but, you want to stay out of them. Lots of challenging greens with great pin placements.

Beautiful course cut through the woods - challenging but fair

I've played The Ravines twice and have enjoyed it both times. Nice range of tee markers for every skill level. Fairways are relatively wide - but grab a course guide, as it will help you determine the direction to hit your tee shots on some holes.

Great challenging course.

We hadn't played the course since 2010 and it has been made more player friendly without diminishing the challenge. Here's a tip, if you're an average player use the white tees and if you hit the long drive play the blue tees-- your landing position will be better.

The back nine is exceptionally beautiful.

The Ravines offers a wonderful experience to play a very challenging golf course with the scenic beauty to go along with the round. The greens are large and undulating and roll quite true. The front nine offers a great warm up for an enjoyable back nine with winding cart paths that go through hilly terrain. Loved the course and GPS in the carts, which is a must if want any success in placing the ball in the proper landing area. There are lots of bunkers which grab your errant shots to the green, but the sand is well maintained and the ball comes out quite nicely if properly struck. All in all, a beautiful course to play and well worth the Golf Now price.

Beautiful challenging course

It was a course that made you feel like you were the only one out there The holes were not right next to each other. There were wetlands and small creeks winding through the course. There were many well placed fairway bunkers and the greens were surrounded by many sand traps. This course is not for beginners as there are wetlands and some ravines to be carried off the tee. It has beautiful bent grass fairways and large medium speed greens. I'm definitly coming back.

Awesome course

Very nice course. Par 5's can be challenging, lots of hazards in all the wrong places. Finesse beat the course, can't overpower it. Greens were pretty fast. I will play it again soon.
