Potential, but not managed well
Coyote Creek could be a champion course but it unfortunatel is managed poorly. About a couple months ago they blamed not being able to get carts for waiting for an order. That order came in and during my recent visit, they still ran out, very poor planning. The course itself is in decent shape except for the ridiculous amount of geese crap on the 16th hole Tournament. How hard is to setup some geese deterants, other courses do it. The pace of play was extremely slow for a Sunday and the lovely cart GPS keeps reminding you on a your pace of play every 5 min, but there was no Marshall to be found to speed up the play on the groups ahead causing the issue. Lastly, not sure why every time I go to the driving range we are hitting off dirt. They seem to be rotating where we tee off but not caring for the grounds so you are just rotating back to old dead grass spots.
Nice Course!
Really enjoyed the course despite the wind.
Greens were in good shape and rolled true. Fairways were well cut and tee blocks well maintained.
Clubhouse had great food at reasonable prices as well.
I'd play it again for certain.
Other events
There was a long and loud wedding ceremony going on in the middle of the day and during the round blocking the cart paths and access to the 18th hole green.
There was no previous announcement about this event so it really interrupted and annoyed many players on the course.
It felt more like a venue/banquet place than a golf course.
Regret that I didn’t ask for any discount or reschedule if I were told beforehand
Fun Track
Tournament Course Only… the Valley course is useless…
Treat yourself
The Tournament course is always a measurement of your golf abilities. The greens were extremely fast and well taken care of.. Stay out of the bunkers, sand is hard packed. Someday I hope to get par on hole 6.
On the Downward Slide
Coyote Creek Tournament Course is a track on the downward slide. Right now, there is encroaching crab grass that has spread from just outside the rough to basically being spread throughout, with parts intruding into the fairways. The fairways themselves are as much divot as they are grass. The integrity of the layout is severely compromised as course maintenance consists of simply mowing the grass. The hazards (water, ravines etc) are poorly attended to as well leaving you with a feeling of a substandard muni. It’s hard to see any value here.
The Valley course, considered the lesser of the two, might actually be the one to play as (while it’s conditions are no better) the price during weekdays are closer to its deserving price. Nearly every course in the area at the same price point are much better maintained. Choose elsewhere.
Nice layout
Very nice course only negative is the price for the tournament course. Can play similar courses in our area for better value (Callippe, The Bridges, Eagle Ridge, Metropolitan). All are a better value.
Pace of play spoiled the day
The Good:
Course was great. Wind is an issue with this course, it can really wreck your round but I lucked out on this chilly December day and it only made a couple holes suck.
The Bad:
I had to call the pro shop on the 4th tee because there was 4 groups on the same hole. The group responsible let the two groups in front of us go but not us. While they were on the 9th green I just drove past them and tee’d off on 10. Wasn’t able to finish 18 with any light because of this group.
Pro shop/marshal was useless. Their staff, especially the starter is as useless as he is unfriendly.
Overall:
The course is great, fun to play , and close to my house. Yet, A few more poor experiences and I’ll probably add this place to my do not play list.
Always challenging but fair always in good shape but overwatered spongy issues going on
Don’t get me wrong this is one of my favorite courses in the bay area. The course layout is phenomenal challenging long par for us with ravines that guard the greens and plenty of par fives in scoring opportunities if you can keep the ball in play know your distances for your clubs and I have to say I was a little surprised the overwatering has gone a little overboard I feel as many times throughout the day I was walking and it felt like I was walking on a sponge usually the greens are much faster and firmer may be just a temporary issue but overall an excellent course it time and time again
Tournament rocks
I think the Tournament course is one of the best courses in the bay area You have to go to Monterey to find comparable courses but it will cost you much more in green fees and cart
