20 years after my first round at Palm Desert Resort (and a lot grayer) I still enjoyed my round! Photo submitted by salevy on 12/17/2012
pace of play
we were behind a foursome of members that did not seem to care the whole course was behind them. we and 4 other croups had to go around them and not finish our rounds. still did not seem to bother them. not sure we Wii. be back.never been on a course where this has happened
PDRCC
Course has good layout a couple of long tough PAR 5 holes. Con they tried to constantly pair you up with other groups, no restaurants or drink cart.
Great conditions considering 100+ degree weather
Considering 100+ degree temperatures (high of 117) during the first week of September the course was in great shape. You could bring as much water/Gatorade as needed so it wasn't a problem for staying hydrated. Everything was as good as could be.
Great course and great deal on Golfnow.com
Wonderful course and very good conditions for late summer. A couple greens are spotty with fungus or something but most are in good condition. Same for the fairways and tee boxes.
LOTS of picturesque water but very playable. The course is better than most at this time of year and a great value.
HOWEVER...the low price green fee is only in place through the end of September. They shut down for the month of October for re-seeding and maintenance and the price will go up to around $100 on November 1.
Course conditions
Considering 110+ temperatures, the course is excellent. Greens were in great shape albeit a little slow. Unfortunately, the temporary pro shop only had 2 Gatorades left, but the course was overall a B+.
A Really Great Value
I played alone after warming up on the driving range, range balls included along with a decent electric cart. The attendant/starter was very friendly and helpful but did not mention the course essentially shuts down at noon -- a summertime schedule that doesn't affect players already on the course, but if you're counting on a drink or lunch after the round, forget about it. Except for the cart garage, it's a ghost town from noon until the next morning. But fairways, greens, traps and tees are in excellent condition, very, very impressive for the desert summer. My home course in southern Arizona should hire this course's superintendent. I started at 9:44 a.m. and finished at 1 p.m. The layout is reasonably interesting. The back nine plays longer off the blue tees than the front nine. The dogleg left 18th hole is really interesting, especially for a first-timer: the fairway is bisected by a water hazard that's also on the right side. Don't even think about hitting driver. The 14th hole, 3-handicap, has a pond separating fairway from green. Except for the red stakes, the pond can't be seen from the fairway -- tough hole. I'd have given all categories 5-star ratings if they just had someplace to get a beer or a soda after the round, especially on a 110-degree afternoon.
Great value for money
Had a hot deal on golf now. Hard to get better for the money. Nice course layout and fun to play. Great shape for being the summer. Free range balls. Was my first time playing there and I will come back again for sure. They had issues with watering earlier this year when working on their ponds but now it's back to normal. Explaining not so great reviews. But it's all behind now and the course is back in good shape.
