About
Ironwood Golf Club has the distinction of being named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." Owned by the city of Gainesville, this popular course hosts more than 50 tournaments year. The course winds through a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. Don't be surprised if you're joined by the wildlife that calls the course home, which includes deer and wild turkeys. The layout will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you think twice about swinging the driver too freely. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

Complete 180
The course has taken a complete 180 degree turn since the new superintendent Kyle and staff have taken over. Greens we're basically unputtable 6 months ago. They are close to, if not the best greens in gville right now for a public course. You finally get a true roll. The speed of the greens are amazing compared to 6 months ago. The grounds crew has done an exceptional job with this course. Would def recommend playing here. Def worth the money. Keep up the great work.
Wonderful Municipal Course
Ironwood is an excellent course for the money. It is well run by the city of Gainesville. The course was in very good condition including the greens. Course staff was very friendly and accommodating. It’s a gem in Gainesville.

Getting better
The course has gotten amazingly better since the begging of the year still has work to be done but every week it gets a little better

Purgatory
I’m not a bougie golfer by any means however to be told you have to play with a twosome to make a threesome because it was so packed. They wouldn’t rain check the back 9 due to horrible pace so I won’t be back.
For comparable $ Turkey Creek or CC of Lake City are much better. If you want to use golf now here show up and see how busy they are first or book just 9 holes and pay again.

Worst greens ever played
The City of Gainesville should be embarrassed that they charge more than $20 to play this course. The greens are unplayable. The rest of the course is average.

Fairways and tee boxes are decent. Greens are atrocious.
Greens are horrid. I think I had more sand on my putter than was in the actual bunkers. Big issue I have with this place is the no cooler rule. If you’re not going to allow someone to bring a cooler and drinks…maybe have your cart girls rolling around well before we reach the 17th tee box. Too late by then. Not to mention, who doesn’t love a cigar while golfing. This is a no smoking course so kiss that goodbye. For the price. It’s not really worth it. Better courses elsewhere nearby with better “rules” that are in better condition.

Marginal experience
Played on April 18 for the first time. My experience was OK.
Pluses:
Conveniently located right by the airport,
Very reasonable cost and value.
Layout is acceptable but not exciting.
Fairway condition was very dry and barely OK.
Greens were not bad.
Especially 3-9 we're fun overall.
Minuses.
The fairways and tee- boxes were not in great shape.
The first two holes were not fun to play for the first time (need to get over water). The course could use more watering.
Might play here again, but not with enthusiasm (3stars/5)
