About
Ironwood Golf Club has the distinction of being named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." Owned by the city of Gainesville, this popular course hosts more than 50 tournaments year. The course winds through a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. Don't be surprised if you're joined by the wildlife that calls the course home, which includes deer and wild turkeys. The layout will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you think twice about swinging the driver too freely. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

Slow Play
Pace of play was poor. The course was busy because the University course was closed for an NCAA tournament. Did they allow last minute players to start without tee times? That was denied but it was clear that they weren't honoring tee times. We were at least 30 minutes late starting. Groups ahead were not keeping up. A ranger would have had some groups skipping holes in order to even out the pace. No ranger on the course.

A very enjoyable day on a very nice municipal 18- hole championship golf course. For winter conditions in Northern Florida, the greens, tees and fairways were better than expected. The pace was a bit slow, but all in all a very nice experience.

Need work
Wow, thought the course would have been better than the last time I play there. The greens and the fairways need lots of work. It use to be the best course in town but have fallen down of last.

Dying course
This course use to be fun and challenging. The staffs not vary friendly, the range has a ball machine that wouldn’t accept my code by the time I was done messing around with it and walked back to the clubhouse for a refund. The allotted time for range had exceeded, the clubhouse staff informed me I couldn’t get a refund but gave me a code that doesn’t expire for a year for a bucket of balls. I will probably never use this code for I probably will not return to this course due to the unprofessionalism from the clubhouse to the starter, the starter didn’t understand or know how to do their job. They were letting golfers just go off when the wanted to pair up or not pair up, was allowing the golfers to do what ever they wanted to, tee times didn’t matter. After we got the round started we were on 9 tee box when I golfed drove up from the club house and waited for us to tee off (thinking it was the ranger/started) no it was juts a golfer that didn’t wanna wait their turn on one so the drove out to nine waited for us to to tee off as we were approaching our drives for our second shots we here a ping and look back this golfer had teed a ball up and started playing/hitting into us. It was a joke and Circus for a course with the rudeness of the staff the unprofessionalism of the course staff with the options you have around this course it will be worth the extra 5 mins and the xtra 10$ it cost to play a well mannered and good staff course around the area. It’s safe to say I will not recommend this course to anyone or be coming back.
