About
Ironwood Golf Club has the distinction of being named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." Owned by the city of Gainesville, this popular course hosts more than 50 tournaments year. The course winds through a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. Don't be surprised if you're joined by the wildlife that calls the course home, which includes deer and wild turkeys. The layout will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you think twice about swinging the driver too freely. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

Ironwood on 6/12/22
Many of the greens, especially on the back 9 are in terrible shape. Rarely see a ranger on the course. The pace of play is negatively affected by lack of rangers to move people along. Fairways arent in very good shape. No real grass to speak of.

One more time
Played again as we are visiting our son and his family. Course is dry, but so are all the other public courses here. Greens are still in pretty good shape. One or two not so good. Fairways are sandy in spots, but again, it's Florida.

Greens
The greens on the back nine were a little burnt but the ball still rolled good.

Decent course.
The back nine is in much better condition than the front nine. Still… pretty course, friendly staff, a little expensive but worth it.

Ironwood on April 28th
The greens are rough and patchy brown. Hard to understand with the amount of rain we’ve had in the last month.
Also on a crowded day it makes no sense to allow so many golfers to play as singles. They constantly press you from behind then pass your foursome and slow down the pace of play in front of you.

Absolutely horrific greens.. pace of play is unreal with some golfers out there.. no feel for the other golfers behind them..

Back again.....
Back again.... Northwest Florida has been very dry for weeks. The course showed the drought. Overall though, a good course to play. Will be back!

Very Slow
Nice day just agonizingly slow. Course is going through grass changes probably be looking better in a few weeks. Played there a few times and for the money really not to bad, doesn’t brake the bank will be back.

Terrible Terrible Terrible Conditions and Pace
Played here in early March with a friend of mine and not only did the Ranger not do his job in speeding up pace/breaking up 5+ somes, the conditions were unbelievably bad. There is MAYBE one green on this course that rolls true. Dead grass galore, sand, dead areas in the fairway and TeeBoxes in such bad shape I slipped and nearly fell on a follow through. Do not pay hard earned money to play this course. The city of Gainesville has invested almost nothing into it, the conditions and pace are absolutely awful and it's overpriced. Go to Ocala for a better price and course
