About
Ironwood Golf Club has the distinction of being named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." Owned by the city of Gainesville, this popular course hosts more than 50 tournaments year. The course winds through a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. Don't be surprised if you're joined by the wildlife that calls the course home, which includes deer and wild turkeys. The layout will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you think twice about swinging the driver too freely. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

Purgatory
I’m not a bougie golfer by any means however to be told you have to play with a twosome to make a threesome because it was so packed. They wouldn’t rain check the back 9 due to horrible pace so I won’t be back.
For comparable $ Turkey Creek or CC of Lake City are much better. If you want to use golf now here show up and see how busy they are first or book just 9 holes and pay again.

Worst greens ever played
The City of Gainesville should be embarrassed that they charge more than $20 to play this course. The greens are unplayable. The rest of the course is average.

Fairways and tee boxes are decent. Greens are atrocious.
Greens are horrid. I think I had more sand on my putter than was in the actual bunkers. Big issue I have with this place is the no cooler rule. If you’re not going to allow someone to bring a cooler and drinks…maybe have your cart girls rolling around well before we reach the 17th tee box. Too late by then. Not to mention, who doesn’t love a cigar while golfing. This is a no smoking course so kiss that goodbye. For the price. It’s not really worth it. Better courses elsewhere nearby with better “rules” that are in better condition.

Marginal experience
Played on April 18 for the first time. My experience was OK.
Pluses:
Conveniently located right by the airport,
Very reasonable cost and value.
Layout is acceptable but not exciting.
Fairway condition was very dry and barely OK.
Greens were not bad.
Especially 3-9 we're fun overall.
Minuses.
The fairways and tee- boxes were not in great shape.
The first two holes were not fun to play for the first time (need to get over water). The course could use more watering.
Might play here again, but not with enthusiasm (3stars/5)

Ironwood in June
The front nine greens were in decent shape, but the back nine greens were rugged. The staff was friendly, the course layout was ok.

Fine for locals
It's hot, it's Florida. Course layout has enough challenges. Fairways hard and the balls roll. Bunkers were fine and manageable. Staff very friendly. Tee boxes weren't perfect but were more than playable. Greens need watering and attention though, many are baked.

Ironwood on 6/12/22
Many of the greens, especially on the back 9 are in terrible shape. Rarely see a ranger on the course. The pace of play is negatively affected by lack of rangers to move people along. Fairways arent in very good shape. No real grass to speak of.

One more time
Played again as we are visiting our son and his family. Course is dry, but so are all the other public courses here. Greens are still in pretty good shape. One or two not so good. Fairways are sandy in spots, but again, it's Florida.

The greens on the back nine were a little burnt but the ball still rolled good.

The back nine is in much better condition than the front nine. Still… pretty course, friendly staff, a little expensive but worth it.
