Ironwood Golf Course
About
Ironwood Golf Club has the distinction of being named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." Owned by the city of Gainesville, this popular course hosts more than 50 tournaments year. The course winds through a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. Don't be surprised if you're joined by the wildlife that calls the course home, which includes deer and wild turkeys. The layout will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you think twice about swinging the driver too freely. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

Waste of time
Good layout. If u like playing in a cow pasture this is the course for u. Fairways terrible, greens r a disgrace . Can't believe a city would let course run down into this condition . Shame on them. Three stars . U have to be kidding. Even started told us the course is terribe.
Great Day at the Course
Have played the course a few times over the past month and the conditioning is starting to improve each time. Hopefully as the season progresses the greens and fairways will continue to improve. A nice course to play in Gainesville with some nice challenging holes.
Course conditions need some improvement
Course is a nice challenge and layout. Need more course maintenance to get the greens, fairways etc in better shape. Staff are friendly and it is a good course to work on your game. Improved driving range is also an asset but practice green and chipping greens are basically not usable due to burnt patches etc. Pace of play is good and was overall a good value for the money.
Horrible course conditions
The course is in terrible shape. You can not tell the difference between fairways and rough all the it’s all same length and half of the grass is dead and gone. Everything was dead and dry and very hard. Half of the tee’s were hitting off of weeds and and the other half was like hitting off of a hard sand trap
Course conditions need some improvement
Course has a nice layout and presents some good challenging holes. Greens were in fair to poor condition and assume they had been aerated and hopefully would be in better condition soon. Staff is friendly and driving range is really nice. If the course continues to improve course conditions it will be a great place to play on a regular basis.
YES!!
Played the course two days before and posted a mediocre review. But it rained on us then and again the following day. But today was clear and dry. But the course was in great shape. As I had mentioned the fairways and greens were in tough shape and in need of water. The rain did the trick. Had a great time!
Hoping for improvement.
Played here about 6 weeks ago. Have also played there last year.. Today was disappointing. Fairways were very dry and grass was in poor shape. Greens were blotchy as there were patches of different grass growing. I was told it was due to the change of the seasons here in Florida and they were letting the new grass grow in. Maybe. I like the course, as I stated I have played here before. It was better then. Playing again today (two days after this review) and after a few rainstorms. Hopefully the course will be better.
Great value and nice layout
Love this course but the maintenance is not up to par. Greens are good but the fairways are poor.
Iron Wood was great
My wife and I had a wonderful day of golf at Ironwood. Fairways were in great condition. It took a while to adjust to the greens for putting.
The starter gave us excellent tips on how to play some of the holes, where wildlife might be seen. Also that the front had more water and the back was a little tighter.
All and all was a wonderful day.
Ironwood showing good improvement
As always a good layout. Fairways rough, but the greens are vastly better than a year ago Too many weeds in fairway and around greens.
Good pricing through Golf Now.
Staff and clubhouse tavern great. Driving range very nice.
Best deal in Gainesville
Though this is a public course, it is kept in great shape like most private courses. The fairways are tight and the rough isn't punishing. The sand in the bunkers is new and easy to play out of as well. This course is one of the great bargains to be found on golfnow.com and can often have noon tee times for between 13 and 17 dollars. I play this course whenever I am in town and will continue to do so.
Nice place
wish this course was closer to my home I would play it often.
improved
Played here last year, course seemed better now. Better fairways (grass) and greens. Tee boxes too. Tough course for me as I play the blue tees (men) which is about 6100 yds. Helps to know the course as there is some water and sand around. Didn't see any gators today, but did last year. if you ball goes in the water, leave it there!
fairways were a little wet cart path only
good round hooked up with a couple of locals had a pretty good round course is coming around after some sun and warmer weather all in all very enjoyable round of golf
No Bueno!!
We arrived to NO bag drops in front. Carried our bags 100 yrds to the check in. No carts were available due to a tournament that shot gunned just before us. It took 5 hrs to play a course that I lost 6 balls on IN PLAY. Plugged in MUD. We drove from Ocala and realized Again that we just need to stay home. * top notch courses here in Ocala for good prices.
