About
Ironwood Golf Club has the distinction of being named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." Owned by the city of Gainesville, this popular course hosts more than 50 tournaments year. The course winds through a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. Don't be surprised if you're joined by the wildlife that calls the course home, which includes deer and wild turkeys. The layout will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you think twice about swinging the driver too freely. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

They try hard
Lots of rangers and supervision; very helpful even helped find lost ball. Very friendly staff. Course is in as good shape as any other in area; better than most. A lot of players, but still moving along pretty good. I think all the rangers riding around help keep the idiots from playing here.
Nice layout
Overall the course is in good shape. A few greens had some rough patches. The layout is good, no 2 holes are alike. Golf carts were in good conditions. Drinking water every 3 holes. Overall, a good experience.

Somewhat disappointed in Conditions
Played today based on a recommendation from someone who had played here a couple months ago. The conditions of the greens and fairways have really deteriorated since then, the greens had a lot of bad spots and very bumpy with a grassy weed growing in spots. The fairways had some bad areas. Mostly was the poor greens.
Playvwas slow and had to wait on most of the holes.!would not come back, too many nice courses in the area.

Should have warned about tournament
Severely overcrowded due to tournament plus regular tee times. All tee times were double or triple booked. Everyone was upset and discussed. Many people walked off in anger. I would never have booked if I had been warned about the tournament. How greedy can they get to book that many players at the same time? It took over 6 hours to play 28 holes that normally take 3 hours. I am afraid to ever book here again. Green fees should be refunded.

Most greens are going. Some bad spots . Fairways are good plenty of grass. Even has rough. I like that. Good condition overall.

The greens were disappointing , very uneven and poor quality

Good Public Course
It’s as good as it gets for public golf in Gainesville. The course condition will never wow you, but it’s also never a dump. Usually a worthwhile 18 holes of golf.

Cool layout
Nice course. Greens were nice however some were sanded and fertilzered. I would play again. Tight fairways.

Course is getting better all the time, As long as it don't get any rain !!
Like a Municipal course.
This course is very much like a municipal course. Fairways have been redone and seem to be growing in nice. Course had not been mowed properly because of all the rain so the rough was a little ... rough! Greens were in good condition but a little slow.
Nice driving range and carts. Decent Pro Shop.
The bar staff is excellent and Sara is a delight.
Well worth the “Hot Deal” on Golf Now. Will definitely return.
Course is looking good
The course is continuing to improve and the greens have the looked the best since early in the year. Keep up the maintenance and course conditions and I will keep coming back to play.
Course conditions still need work
While the aerified greens and fairways look better than five weeks ago, there was way too much top dressing still on the greens and thus sand kicking up when putting on the greens. Secondary rough needs to be cleaned and up mowed to make for a more delineated area from the fairways. Hopefully the greens and fairways will come back in the coming weeks.
Unplayable Conditions
I have played this course a decent amount and was very disappointed this time. I arrived at the course and the course had just completed aerifying the greens and fairways and putting top dressing on. I had no idea as nothing was stated on Golfnow at the time of reservation. The course should have been closed for at least a week or two after this heavy of maintenance was done. There was no reason to even putt on the greens and almost all of the fairways were just unplayable. I am glad they are keeping up the maintenance but a lot of courses aerate greens and fairways and close the course for play for a couple of weeks so they greens and fairways can bounce back. For people playing the course check the course website to see the status update. Overall if I would have seen the website posting about this I would never would have played the course until a few weeks after these procedures.
A lot of courses "close for a couple of weeks" after aerating? I'm not sure where you're from, but I've never seen that and I've played all over the Southeast for the last 30 years. I'm also surprised at how many people are 'surprised" by aerated conditions when they arrive at a course. I ALWAYS call this time of year to inquire about this.
greens need help
This was my first experience at this course. Fairways were pretty sparse in places and most greens had multiple bare patches. Course layout was pretty good, lots of water in play. Overall, an okay outing.
