Faldo at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge Resort
About
Faldo Championship Course at the Wildfire Golf Club measures as long as 6,846 yards, depending on which tees you're shooting from, and lies on 174 acres and features some differences from the average desert-themed golf courses. Faldo offers abundant fairways, big bentgrass greens and tee boxes, as well as the golf course's neighboring mountains, century-old saguaro cacti and 106 sand bunkers - which remind golfers of Aussie sand-belt golf courses, which gives it a magnificent locale for golfers.
Wildfire Golf Club is much-feted: When the Faldo Championship Course opened, the Arizona Republic selected hole No. 2 among the valley's 18 best. The golf course received recognition among the 2006 Travel & Leisure Golf's "World's Best Golf Resorts" for family getaways and in the 2006 Conde Nast Traveler rundown of the "Top 100 Golf Resorts in North America." These are in addition to the Gold Tee Award from Meetings & Conventions Magazine.

Even better than I expected
Having recently moved the Phoenix area from the Orlando area I have the expectation (and resigned acceptance) that summer golf is cheap in exchange for unbearable heat and less than stellar course conditions. So threshold of pain tolerance is rather high during the summer seasons but I have to say I was more than impressed by the Faldo course conditions and absolutely enjoyed it. Didn't play the tips, but one up, so length only came in to play on two holes. So far this summer best bang for your buck in the Valley.
Nice Course
Nice course. Could tell its summer in Phoenix. Not up to normal Faldo standards but was still in pretty good shape. Greens were great.
Challenging but fair to the average golfer
Course was in nice shape for summertime. Lots of bunkers but enough room to navigate. Greens in good shape with a nice roll and not too tricky. A good short game around the greens would be very helpful with your score. Overall a nice course to play and I would play it again.
Great shape
We found the service to be very good and the course to be in great shape. The only drawback was a twosome in front of us that was very slow. Other than that we thoroughly enjoyed the course and will play there again.
Challenging short par 4s
We played from the whites, but even from the blues, there are some interesting short par 4s where selecting the right club to hit off the tee really has a direct impact on your score. This isn't a course where you automatically pull out driver on every 4 or 5. Not a course for guys who just want to bomb it off the tee, but it's a great challenge for guys who want to think their way around a course.
different from other courses
nice change of pace from other valley courses with the number of sand traps.
Great Golf
Challenging from the 1st tee. More sand on this course than at the beach.
Fun round on FALDO with excellent greens
Played the Faldo course for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Course has lots of bunkers that create good strategic choices. Also has created some fun/sneaky visual effects with what appears to be green-side bunkers that actually sit 15-30 yards in front of the green, making the green look closer than it is. A few short par 4's with risk-reward options. The greens were in excellent shape and putted true.
Traps
I think Nick over did it with sand traps . It was still an enjoyable round . Course in good shape , greens quick but fair.
WILDFIRE NVER DISAPPOINTS
We had seven players from our regular weekend group that headed to play this past weekend on the Faldo Course. Most of us had played there before and always enjoy it. One in our group who is rather picky about courses stated "really enjoyed the layout and look forward to playing it again and checking out the Palmer side." Not overly difficult as you are rewarded for placing your tee shots in the fairway. Some long par 4's and the course played longer/shorter with the swirling winds on Saturday. All in all a great day of golf. Nice Pro Shop as well.
Challenging Desert Course with Excellent Conditions
I've played most of the high-end courses in the Scottsdale area since moving here and finally played Wildfire-Faldo. Wish I had played this course sooner.
Outstanding course conditions, especially considering that the long, hot days have set in. You can play the white, blue, or black tees and match a challenge with your ability. The 108 bunkers add to the challenge and their location/size/configuration are a tribute to excellent course design. Length of holes are nicely mixed, and in combination with bunker layout there is always a risk/reward option or a bail-out option...both from the tee and when playing a second shot into a green. Bunkers are challenging if you get in them...often deep and steep. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens are in excellent shape. Putting is challenged by slope on greens, but if you can read them the ball rolls nicely. I would not recommend for above a 25 handicap, but a 10 handicap will be challenged from the blue tees and 5 or less handicap will be tested from the tips (black tees). Overall, and outstanding value. I'm headed back soon!
Great golfing experience every time!
The Faldo course at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Wildfire Course is a very well-maintained and enjoyable course experience. It's a must play course year round, as it the Palmer course.
enjoyable challenging round of golf
This golf course does not play very long. The bunkering is somewhat excessive. The course conditions were pretty good although they had just plugged the greens. I would play this course again.
Pace is a disgrace
Major pet peeve. It drives me crazy when all you get is lip service about pace of play. We got the typical lecture from the starter about pace of play and they will keep people at 4:20. It was slow. At the turn we finally saw a ranger and asked how the pace was up ahead. He said things were moving great and they were busy. ?????? We were already 25 minutes behind pace, and he thinks things are moving great. Nearly a 5 hour round is inexcusable. If you are going to preach about pace of play then have the guts to enforce it.
Enough complaining. The course was in fine shape, and I always enjoy the course(s) at Wildfire. Fairways were good and the greens rolled fine. Staff is friendly enough, and the facilities are fine.
If you want to get a round in at a reasonable time you have to go off before 7:00 AM.
Play well!
Excellent rapport qualité-prix
Nous avons booké à la dernière minute et pour $60/personne incluant voiturette, c'est tout un deal. Terrain relativement facile si on pars des jalons blanc. Vitesse moyenne sur les verts mais constant partout
Faldo/wildfire
Lovely course at a reasonable price- love those bunkers. Great course conditions for the high heat conditions.
8 foot high bunkers
I'm 10-16 handicap, drive it quite straight, 230-260yds. decent iron & short game. If you like 4-6 foot lips in fairway bunkers from 200 yds. out and greenside bunkers 4- 8 or 9' deep completly surrounding the green, with no bailout whatsoever this is just the course for you. We found it unplayable. I will never be back. I always like to look at the upside of a round, for this course other than the condition of it, there was no upside. Worst time on a golf course I can remember.
Bunkers!!!!
I'm a 12 handicap, playing golf to avoid bunkers on just about every shot is not fun for an amateur, then you have to deal with undulating greens. Bottom line, too many bunkers!!!! I only gave it 3 stars because of so many unneccesary bunkers. Beautiful course and facility otherwise,
Very Challenging
We played on a great day where temps were around 82 degrees. The course was in great shape. The Faldo course has less bunkers that the Desert course but the fairways were narrower but fair. You have a pretty clear chance to hit the rolling fairways. Would definitely play again.
A little slow
Great course but they are so friendly they don't want to enforce pace of play
