WAS a great course….
I heard early on new management bought the place in December. Apparently now they have 7 minutes between tee times! BIG MAJOR GREEDY MISTAKE! My friend played during the week , Tuesday morning and it took over 5 hours! We played today, Sunday 4/2 at 11:52 (though we teed off at 11:57) and it was 5.5 hours!! And throughout the front we had up to 3 or even 4 groups on holes. 7 minute tee times? DUMBEST GREEDY MOVE EVER!!
Besides adding extra tee times which have made the pace of play IMPOSSIBLE to greedily make more money, the course apparently has NO WATER BUDGET. Putting tees into tee boxes was IMPOSSIBLE, as we broke a few trying to get them in the ground.
So tee boxes are ROCK HARD, fairways are ROCK HARD (a bonus for this 170 yard driver as I had two roll and bounce over 200 yards). Greens were ROCK HARD so holding greens on approaches was IMPOSSIBLE. Approach areas were ROCK HARD so that if you hit the front of the green it also rolled off the back of the green.
Hernando oaks WAS my absolute favorite course, I will NEVER return until at least tee times are moved to 9 or better 10 minutes. 7 minute tee times is simply a money grab by greedy owners who REFUSE to water tee boxes or greens and thus this course due to time and condition is deemed UNPLAYABLE by this 11 handicap.

Good Layout & Greens
Not much has changed at Hernando since I played it last winter, although I must say the greens were quite acceptable and fully grassed. The layout is quite good but it’s just unfortunate they don’t have sufficient funds to maintain it any better than they do. It needs more water and fertilizer to green it up, as well as a bunker maintenance program, including more sand in them.
The sidelines around greens and fairways are thin, so offline shots regularly roll off into thin lies or the woods.
All in all, it’s a good track, worth playing to see for yourself. Playing it regularly however would wear on me.
Course is Dry
This course is way too dry. More than some of the fairways are very hard. Several of the TEE boxes I couldn't even get the TEE in the ground without a lot of force. One of my playing partners had his approach shot on 18 land on the lip, 10 feet from the green, and careen past the green like it bounced on pavement.
Played at Hernando Oaks last year and it was fabulous. I will play it again as I love the layout, but this needs to be addressed by HO staff.
This course is in need of rain/water
Love the course lay out, especially the back nine. Not many courses have no houses in view when playing. It is very dry due to almost no rain in the area. The greens are in good shape as they are watering them and will receive hold a shot into them. The tee boxes almost need a hammer to get your tee in. The greens did roll nice. The fairways were tight lies all the way
Had fun day
The greens were well waterD fairiways pretty dry this time of year course layout is great no doubt a good day for the money
Not bad
It was a beautiful day to play golf. The course layout is interesting. but the course has not been watered it a long time so the ground is very hard. But it was inexpense for winter golf in Florida. The greens were in good shape although not too fast. overall the courses average plus.
Course i
Course in decent shape for the amount of usage.
Pace of play was very slow. Other than that course was good.
Not Bad.
Greens in great shape, Course has been improved in the last year. The Fairways are wide and in pretty good shape. The carts are old, seats coming apart.
But the price is right and it obvious they are working on it. Bill defiantly go back.
Great course
Great job by the Marshall today. The group ahead of us was slowly moving and he was on top of his game and got things moving.. we will add this course to our schedule.
Thirsty Golf Course
Course needs water. Greens were ok bot fairways and tee boxes were poor. Several holes had difficulty putting tee in ground. Lots of bare spots.
Great day on the course
The course has a very nice layout. It was in great condition. Basically it was great. Can’t wait to play it again it’s really really enjoyable. Oh yeah, and the greens were great shape to.
