Much Improved
I played Silverthorn a few years ago and it was in poor condition. Overall the course has improved dramatically. The greens were in good shape but slow, the fairways were good for winter drought conditions, need more sand in the bunkers. Pace of play was about 4hrs and overall its a great value for the money. Interesting course, good layout, not too much trouble. Wish they still had the Gold tees as 6500 is the longest Tee that have now.
Sketchy
Greens are inconsistent. Too hard to putt. Many fairways and tees in bad condition
Good Layout with issues
Silverthorn is a great layout.
Unfortunately the fairways are barren especially on the back nine.
Traps had no rakes and there were no rakes on the carts.
Greens were really good but grass surrounding them was much longer than normal collars.
Condition of the course has been an issue for the last few years.
Improving!
I haven’t played this course in several years. It was horrendous prior. But I was surprised how it’s come along. Fairways were improved. Greens were very nice- slow, like around a 7.5 ish, but were in very good shape. Tee boxes were much improved. The rough is still a bit ugly- lots of weeds yet, so that has to get better. Bunkers playable. The layout is very nice with back tees around 6600. So under $60- pretty decent value if I compared to crescent oaks, seven springs, fox follow. Biggest need to to get the rough fixed up. I decided to place the ball on a piece of grass in the rough - instead of dirt spot- it makes for a more fair round and not irritation. Layout is very fun.
Great edition to north Tampa public golf
Our Friday foursome played Silverthorn for the first time. We were treated great from check in until post round drinks inside. The course is a great layout in decent condition considering our drought. We enjoyed our day and will be back soon.
Was a good day
Greens were in pretty good shape.fairways could use more grass but also not to bad!!
Nice course
We really need some rain to fill in off the fairways. Fairways were in great shape as was the greens. I'll be playing there again.
Pray for rain!
Best greens I've played in a long time
Terrific greens especially considering Florida is in a drought
Great time.
This was my first time here. I will be back. The conditions were good considering the time of year it is.
Great Improvement
I enjoy playing this course a few times every year and the course conditions have improved tremendously over the past 5-10 years. If you can play for less than $50, it is well worth the drive.
Great Course!
The condition were great especially given everywhere else in the area. Pace had a little log jam but nothing too bad. Most holes were pretty straight forward. Tee boxes need attention…greens a little slow. Again, the overall conditions were so much better than others in the area.
Getting better
Greens are excellent. Rest of the course needs work.
Feb 17 18 hole review
First off there is very much to like about this course. The greens and fairways are in fabulous conditions. The staff is nice and the club and restaurant are beautiful.
The layout is very different than many courses in the Tampa Bay vicinity. There isn't much water or woods that effects shots however the sand traps are placed strategically around the green that require very good approaches. There are also more hills and gulleys that if you miss a fairway, the rolls can make the next shot difficult. The greens were very slow. Looking at how perfect they were, I was expecting more touch and finesse on the greens but you have to be aggressive and putt harder than most courses.
The worst part of my experience has the pace. As a single I asked if they would pair me up for my tee time and there wasn't a starter to help. I went to the first tee and it was a foursome so no one to join and no one was scheduled anytime after me.
One group let me play through on the 2nd hole and then when I got to the next tee box more foursomes. They played pretty fast but eventually by 7th hole completely backed up with foursomes.
After the 9th went to the 10th and more foursomes teeing off and in front. One of the players was super nice and said "hey why don't you just go to the 1st hole and play again". That was great advice. I had the whole front 9 to myself, it was quiet and very enjoyable. I beat my first round score by 6 strokes. The par 3 on to an island is very cool.
Not bad
Had a good round and have played here a few times before. The pace of play is terrible as there are to many groups of 2 and when we played there was a group of 5. Like how does that happen. Where is the Marshall. To many times I have seen groups of 5. They need to clean this up.
Fairways and greens great some issues with tee boxes rough yes overall just a great course thanks for the effort put into keeping the course in great shape
