About
The Silverthorn Country Club golf course has earned its challenging 132 slope rating through a combination of rolling terrain, unpredictable Florida Gulf Coast winds, and no less than 96 strategically-placed bunkers. Joe Lee designed this course and it offers a mixture of wide-open links-style holes and tight, tree-lined fairways. The 25,000 square foot clubhouse offers a scenic vista of Silverthorn's championship golf course, surrounding lakes and splendid Florida sunsets. Course Review Played 5.1
Course is in good to excellent condition on front 9. Back 9 has some holes that are in poor to fair condition. I am a novice golfer so the challenge of the course is good for me as I play white tees

Course was fun. The greens were very nice. The course was very dry probably due to lack of rain. The traps need work but the course is a great value for the afternoon rate.
I will play there again.

Fairways need weed control and certainly too many bare spots. Greens have some blemishes

Fun layout
I enjoy playing here. Nice (but challenging) layout. Course was in overall good shape, although a couple of tee boxes were a little rough. Pace of play was very good until the last two holes. Staff is personable.

What a shame
It's just sad how the management has let the conditions get so rundown & poor. Only thing in good condition, was the greens; & they were slow. Bunkers were ok too. Arnie must be rolling in his grave, thinking about this course. Don't get me wrong. Layout wise. This is a fantastic course. Hurry up & sell it. & please sell it to someone who will put some $ & TLC into. And bring it back to some prominence. Someone who cares. This is my 1st year playing Silverthorn. But this had to be a awesome tract, back in the day. Sorry. I won't be back till I've heard about a comeback story. I can't recommend this course @ this time.

Discresectful group of women behind us
There was a foursome of men ahead of us and then a single man behind them. The foursome was playing so slow, on the third hole we asked the single if he wanted to play with us as a 5 some. We still waited on every shot. There was a threesome of women playing behind us. One of them had the audacity to come up to us and tell us to play faster (even though she could clearly see we were waiting to the group in front of). We told her if she had an issue to call the proshop. I even offered my cell phone. We asked them to slow their pace, as we played the front nine in less than 2 hours. They didn't and continued to press us. We thought about playing as a two some and threesome, but the obnoxious women just made us decide not to. I guess I should have called the proshop myself to complain about them. Someone should teach them about golf etiquette..

I'd eccomend to others
Played Silverthorn on Friday with a couple local gentlemen. They were friendly and made the round enjoyable. The front 9 is in great shape, back 9 fairways were sparse on the "grass."
Well worth the money, able to grip it and rip it most holes and shot a respectable 80 for never having played there.

Has Markedly Gone Downhill
I’ve played this course probably five times in the two years pre-pandemic and was quite impressed with the course condition and kept it as my “special” place to play.
The round I played this past Thursday was a huge disappointment primarily because of how badly the course has deteriorated. The forward tee boxes were merely weed patches where the markers had been placed. The fairways were a mixture of bare patches, weeds and some grass. The greens were adequate and better than the tees or fairways. Traps were raked cleanly, but no rakes were available around them or on the carts. There was no water available on the course. Our cart was missing the upper windshield so when it rained we got very wet. We encountered a few very deep ruts in the fairways which made the ride extremely bumpy and uncomfortable. I do not plan to play this course again. Very disappointed to see a top notch well maintained course deteriorate to its current condition. Sad!
