Silverthorn Country Club

About
The Silverthorn Country Club golf course has earned its challenging 132 slope rating through a combination of rolling terrain, unpredictable Florida Gulf Coast winds, and no less than 96 strategically-placed bunkers. Joe Lee designed this course and it offers a mixture of wide-open links-style holes and tight, tree-lined fairways. The 25,000 square foot clubhouse offers a scenic vista of Silverthorn's championship golf course, surrounding lakes and splendid Florida sunsets. This classic blend of southern charm and golfing tradition will create wonderful memories for your golf trip to Brooksville

Great Value for the Money
Greens have come a long way in the last 6 months. They were slower and bit long in the late summer 2024. Now, they are thick, green, cut to the right length, and roll great. Some tee boxes and parts of the fairway are in average - below average shape. However, for the money, this is still the best in the area.
Silverthorn
First time playing here and really enjoyed the course. Greens were the best I played while visiting Florida. Pace of play was great! Will definitely be back if ever in the area
Greens were amazing. Everything else was lacking
Greens were the highlight. Fairways, tee boxes and pace of play was bad. 4.5 hour round.
Great course
I golf at different courses around the county area. I always feel like I’m coming home when I play silverthorn. The course is always a challenge each & every time I play.
Compete turnaround from 2 years ago
Course was terrible 2 years ago.sand fairways .greens unputtable. Better condition on the fairways. Green were ok. Worth the money for someone from Wisconsin playing in early February
have played here many times, I have enjoyed the course every time.
“You can’t play in the dark, bud”
We booked a 7am tee time directly on the Silverthorn Country Club website. Upon arrival at the front gate, the security guard informed me that the gate does not open until 7am and that we would not be able to enter the neighborhood until that time. We called the pro shop, and after asking if I can be let in the gate for my tee time, he responded “you can’t play in the dark, bud” and said that I have the wrong tee time. I let him know that I booked it directly through them and he said “the gate opens at 7, and we’ll fit you in”.
Not an ideal first experience.
Nice course, conditions fair
I had heard that Silverthorn was a good layout, but in terrible condition. I had a day to myself on a Florida visit, and decided to judge for myself. Upon arrival, there were no cars in the parking lot, and I was expecting the worst. Though the gentleman taking care of carts was very friendly, I was told to just take any cart (no one loaded my clubs for me), and directed to the pro shop. Upon entering the pro shop, the attendant was sitting on a sofa watching TV, and when I told him I had a reserved tee time, he said "your ticket is already on the counter". When I inquired about range balls, he got off the couch, took my $5 and pointed me over to the large bin of range balls, told me to take a bucket and help myself. The putting green was very nice, the range grass was in pretty good condition, so I was optimistic. The tees and greens turned out to be very good. The fairways were inconsistent; some good, some not so much. The green complexes are excellent, with many challenging approach shots necessary. The rough was in pretty bad shape, and the aesthetics need work. The bunkers were perfect, though there was not one rake on the golf course, so you had to do your best with your feet to smooth them out after you played a shot. I played alone, so I was done in a little over 2 hours. I ran into a maintenance worker around hole # 14, and we had a discussion about the colder weather over the last few weeks affecting the turf health. He was very friendly and offered some tips on reading the greens.
My overall take is that with a little care, this once-proud course could be a gem. I am 75 years old and play a lot of golf. Since the tees and greens were good, and the fairways serviceable, I would recommend Silverthorn to anyone wanting a challenging course. Just don't expect a scenic experience. I should mention that after the round, I left my wind vest in the cart, so I had to return to the course to retrieve it. The cart guy was very friendly and had held it safely for me until I returned. He couldn't have been nicer, so I will probably return on another trip to this area of Florida.
review
The fairways at Silverthorn could use some attention as they were very dry in most areas......the greens were just fine....nice and fast and cut close .....
Welcome Back
After a month of no golf do to medical difficulties I had choice from my wife. I can go anywhere I want. I think she was referring to going out to eat. I said I need to golf and Silverthorn is the only course to start back up on. Perfect of course. A pleasure to swing again
