Fun course and layout in excellent condition
I have played Bears Best before so I know the layout very well. I knew the greens were aerated within the past 2 weeks so my expectation weren't great for their condition. Surprisingly, the greens were not bad at all and the overall round turned out to be quite enjoyable. I always like Jack Nicklaus designed courses. There are always holes that are very challenging and holes that are fairly easy and give you good chances to score well. The practice areas at Bears Best are great. Nice grass range, multiple practice putting greens and a nice short game/chipping area with with a practice bunker.
I will be back again and again to play Bears Best.
very nice
Lovely property, well maintained.
Staff was excellent in pro shop
Par 3's are the course strength
Greens just aerated--known issue but didn't really effect play.
Great for Fall Rate
I love Bear's Best, but only in the fall. The normal rates for this golf course are a bit steep at over $100. The course is a moderate challenge from the blue tees, with generous fairways and despite the recent aeration, the greens are pretty slick. An excellent value for the fall.
Great layout, Great conditions, Great experience.
The pro shop is one of the best I have seen in Atlanta. Shop staff were nice and accommodating, the course itself was fun and the layout and condition exceeded my expectations. Great experience.
Best course i have ever played
This is the best golf course around alpharetta, in my opinion. Staffs are very nice.
Great course
Course was in great condition. It drains very well as we had dramatic amounts of rain and only 1 hole was cart path only. Greens were very nice. Fun playing all the renowned Jack Nicholas holes from across the globe.
slow play, no marshal help
2nd or third time playing this course, 8:40 tee time
last two times played extremely slow pace compared to other courses. when discussing with marshal twice, he said we are on pace and so was the group in front of us. they were at least 1 full hole behind on 15 of 18 holes. for the price, I would not play again. nothing frustrates me more than sitting in the fairway and waiting every hole and every shot to the green. much better experience closer to town and for less money.
I Expected More
First and foremost this is a nice course that was in very good shape, some bunkers had deep standing water however. Given the rainy weather of the past month it was understandable that some fairways were soggy and in some areas completely saturated. I encountered 4 staff members and they were all friendly and polite. The reasons why I only gave this facility 3 stars were because; I was surprised that this course did not have a bag drop or attendants to receive your bag and set up your cart. I never observed a Marshall on the course during my round. And I played the white tees and on the 18th white tee box there were numerous range balls all around the tee box and as I waited to tee off incoming range balls were thudding into the ground in close proximity to the tee area. That was a new experience for me on a tee box. Overall this is a nice course that is comparable to the many other highly rated and recommended courses within 25 miles. Thank you.
Great Course and challenging layout - GREAT Condition
I have played the course many times and I really like the course and the fact you get to play several different Jack Nicklaus designed holes. The course was in the best condition I have ever seen. The fairways were lush and nice. The Greens were awesome and rolling fast and in great condition with the exception of the numerous ball marks. It seems as nobody who plays that course had a ball mark repair tool. I fixed three or four ball marks on each green but to no avail because the greens are littered with non repaired ball marks. There should be ball mark repair tools placed in each cart instead of the plastic tees, that way, maybe more people would repair their ball marks on the greens.
I love the course, and it was in the best condition I have ever seen the course but the numerous unrepaired ball marks on the greens drive me crazy.
Bear's Best, Atlanta A Great Experience
In the Atlanta area? No better place to play than Bear's Best for a truly memorable experience which will make you glad you came!
A great place to play.
Always a pleasure to play Bear's Best. My foursome was all single digit players. Only slightly negative comment is that the bunkers need some work. Other than that it is a pleat to play.
First time, great time
I have been looking to play this course for a long time. I saw a hot deal on golfnow on a free Monday and jumped at the chance. I was teamed up with two other like minded random singles and we all enjoyed the day. I tend to like Nicklaus courses as they are fair to all levels if you choose the right tee box. Fairways tend to be wide and in good shape. Greens rolled nicely and there were any questionable pin placements. If you get a chance, get out to this one.

I love the course, but all the ball marks on the greens drive me crazy.
Make sure you have an exit plan before planning to play here
Was supposed to play with a group of about 40 (scheduled) on Memorial Day weekend Sunday, but I was one of about 14 who were not up to cart path only restrictions following very heavy early a.m. t'storms (which had cleared out). Although 20+ of our group did come and play, the course management was hard and fast in refusing any refund or other compromise for those of us unable to play so I'm out that money. A rain check wouldn't have done me any good since I was visiting from outside the area (700+ miles away). Why would I want to give the course any business if all they wanted was my $$? I do a lot of group planning with my local golf group and nearly all of the courses with which we play -- typically groups of 24-32 players -- are very flexible when we have last minute cancellations, and only charge us for the players who show up to play. Instead, myself and those of us unable to play were each out $109/person. We understand that they had box lunches for all of us. That said, it would have gone a long way had the course charged for the unused lunches, and not charged for those of us who couldn't play; that is, unless the course is in some sort of financial distress. No, with all the other golf options in the Atlanta area, it's highly unlikely I would want to give this course any more of my money than it's already taken.
Very Cool Weather Round for This Time of Year
We play at this golf course often, because of the challenge of the layout and generally good condition of the golf course. Some work is needed to improve the bunkers and greens often have a lot of ball marks, which Is due to the fault of the players not the golf course superintendent. The Pro Shop staff, food service attendant and cart girl are all excellent. I would highly recommend this course to anyone in the Atlanta area or visiting from out of town.
Super friendly staff
The Starter helped us get off early to avoid playing with strangers so my buddy and I could enjoy private conversation.
The refreshments cart came by at least twice on each nine; which is nice.
Slow Play - Bears Best Golf Club
You should always check for a possible golf outing taking place before booking a tee time. Played behind a golf outing and the round took 5 hours and 25 minutes. Although the outing as playing under select shot or captains choice on every shot, the pace of play was terrible. The course marshals did nothing to address or improve the pace of play. Additionally, the greens always show considerable ball marks unrepaired. I would suggest a sign on the front of each green reminding players to repair ball marks. I am a regular player of this course.
