Bear's Best Atlanta

Other than green aeration, the course as always spectacular, challenging, but spectacular

Bear's Best is a nice course with a great group of Par 3's. Our group enjoyed the Blue/White Combo tee option. The course was in good shape a few bunkers needed some maintenance, fairways were good, and greens rolled smooth and true. Pace of play was good, marshals managed pace in a professional manner. Course provided a voucher for $1 drinks after the round and the members were friendly in the 19th hole.

GOT A HOLE IN ONE ON #16. PRO SHOP PERSON DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THEY DID FOR IT. LEFT NAME AND NUMBER. CALLED BACK 4 DAYS LATER. ASST PRO SAID: BASICALLY NOTHING. I PLAY THIS COURSE EVERY TIME I VISIT MY SON. WOULD LIKE TO SHOW HIM OR GRANDKIDS THIS DIFFICULT FEAT FOR A AMATEUR GOLFER. LITTLE DISAPPOINTED. SPENT A LOT OF MONEY THERE!

Everything about this course and place overall is one of the best around. From the club house and staff; to the putting, chipping, and driving range; and the magnificently kept course is why i try to play here more times than other courses. The only hurtful thing about looking for a tee-time and play here, is the price that wants your whole wallet and put you on a budget for the next few weeks.

the course layout was very good. from the blue tees there were some driveable par 4's. the fairways were plush with winter rye grass. the greens were nice and fast and smooth considering they had done a light aeriation a week earlier. i would say that the toughest part of the course would be the par 3's. small targets and surrounded by trouble (sand, water, etc...). was a pleasure to play. great practice facilities.

Some nice holes, good layout. Could do with more sand in the bunkers at some holes but they may be due to the recent heavy rain. Would definitely play here again. Noticed that the tee sign at the 17th read Gleneagles, Pertshire which gave us Scots a chuckle. Living close to Gleneagles as we do I'm not sure I would class Perthshire as "pert"!

The round was a good one. A bit wet due to recent rains and cold weather, however love the over-seeded fairways and nice green appearance. Range could use some work, but the course is playing well!

I started out a little wary of the premise behind Bear's Best. The idea of a "greatest hits" course seemed kind of gimmicky. I was worried that there wouldn't be much of a consistent theme throughout.

The reality was quite different. While some details of the courses that these holes were pulled from were added (black, volcanic sand filling the bunkers on a hole inspired by a design in Montana, for example), the course as a whole was unmistakably northern Georgia. There are a lot of elevation changes and some tight holes off the tee. But the greens held really well and rolled true.

The practice facility is wonderful. I'd definitely return for another round, hopefully in better weather.

I never miss a chance to play Bear's Best Atlanta! Great condition, scenic, fun to play! You need to bring a good iron game here, Jack gives you plenty of room to hit the driver but be spot on with the irons. Good short game is a must as well! Great staff, very friendly, good bar and food!

I was very impressed with everything at Bear's Best. From pro-shop to pay for my round to driving up when we were finished at 18th, it was by far one of the best courses in ATL.

Maybe the course is in better condition during peak golf season but from tee boxes to green was in poor condition. Turn house was closed for season.
Fairways almost unplayable.
Staff very nice but honestly they should not say course is in great condition when it is not.
Played here last year in October same conditions as this year . Next years golf trip will skip this course

Being from Chicago and playing in Ga was different. The course has the Private feeling with public access. The course was in great shape considering the time of year is was. The fairway grass is different from Chicago but rolled good and hitting off of it took a few holes to get us to. The course layout is great. Not a lot of blind shots. The risk is you have to be straight off the tee due to some of the landing zones. The reward is hitting the greens when in the fairway. Each hole is based off PGA tour holes. 2 Island par three's we fun to play.

I've played this course at lest once a year for the last eight years and can't say I've ever been dissatisfied until now. I played a course close to this one the next day with friends and not sure why bears best isn't draining and a cheap course is. Fairways was swampy in spots and wet everywhere. Range is sand where they wanted none members to hit from and you now have to purchase range balls because they don't have the pyramid style any longer. Greens are not smooth like they have been in the past and most have dead spots around them.

Do not play this course until they mow the fairways.Due to all of the rain they have not been able to cut the overseeded fairways.The grass is at least 3 inches high.We spent way too much time looking for our tee shots in the middle of the fairway.The ball either plugged or we could not find it.We Paid $49 and it was not worth that amount.Also when I asked the pro shop what kind of shape the course was in,they said great!The $49 could have been spent elsewhere.

Disappointed because I had looked forward to playing this course for years. This course has some unbelievable potential but was borderline unplayable because of the fairway conditions. The rain has really taken its toll on the course. Bunkers have been washed away, fairway grass taller than the rough, soggy swampy conditions in the fairway that clean and replace ball techniques can't even compensate.

It's a great layout and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because all of the rain, but if the course is going to be open and you are going to accept my money to play, it should be in playable condition. Otherwise close the course for repairs.

Bears Best in Atlanta is a really great course. Incredible practice and chipping area, forgiving fairways and plenty of opportunities for birdies. The par-3's here are what can give you high numbers. Replicas of Muirfield Village's par-3 and PGA National's par-3's are both over water and can be difficult. It is also cool to watch the pros play these same holes at PGA tournaments during the year. The course is always overseeded in the winters on the fairways, tees, and greens which is rare in Georgia since there aren't many courses that look green year round! The only negative is that because its a Nicklaus course, the peak prices can reach $120, so if you can find a golf now deal or something, play it! Its worth it!

I love the layout, and the overall course conditions were great. They have a friendly staff, and the experience is well-organized. I will definitely visit this course again soon and will recommend it to my friends

Why does a course have a stated pace of play policy and then do nothing to enforce it? If a group remains behind pace after a warning, they should be made to pick up and be moved forward. A high end course like Bear's Best should set the standard for others in the area. Instead, it's lax policy ruins the experience for far more players than it accommodates.

I called the club before booking the tee time to see if they have recently aerated the greens. He said the greens would be in good shape when we got there a few days after the call. He was correct the greens were in good shape. What he failed to mention to me was that they just reseeded the fairways and in the process of letting the grass grow. The fairways were in horrible shape along with a few of the bunkers. The staff and grounds crew were rude and acted like they didn't want anybody on the course. They did have complimentary coffee but no breakfast at 8:30am since the "chef wasn't there yet." I have been to this course 3 times and now I will never go back. Terrible value!

I had played course a couple of times before so I knew what to expect. The fairways were very wet because of overseeding but we were told that earlier so no surprise, we just played lift and clean. The greens were in good condition as was most of the course. One par 3 green was partially "under construction" but no real issue as it was still playable. Pace of play was excellent for a Saturday morning as we finished in 4 hours and 5 minutes. I had experienced slow play here before so this was a nice surprise. We paid around $60 to play on special and it was well worth that fee. Practice area, clubhouse and overall facilities are excellent. The course layout is great with lots of very interesting holes with nothing boring.
