Black Gold Golf Club
About
Nestled in the foothills of Yorba Linda, Black Gold Golf Club sits on the site of a former Shell Oil Field. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, thought the location, with its dramatic elevation changes and panoramic views overlooking Orange County and Palm Beach, was the perfect place for a round of golf. On a clear day, the views stretch as far as the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The challenging layout is filled with narrow, rolling fairways and fast greens accented by thick patches of punishing rough. Due to the hilly terrain, a flat lie is hard to come by. The front nine requires accuracy and the back nine offers some particularly interesting risk-reward opportunities. Water hazards come into play throughout Black Gold Golf Club, most notably on the 18th. This par-5 finishing hole incorporates a cascading waterfall.

Greens are close to healing
Play this course twice a month. Course in very good condition. Greens were punched 2 weeks ago. Another couple of weeks they will be running pure and fast again.
Great golf
Course is a good mix of holes, some narrow, some wider, fun terrain and the greens are tough for fun. The greens were aerated but knew that going in. Pace was good and it was fun.
Good course
The course overall was good for the price. The pace of play was great, but the greens were punched down and were very slow. So putting was not fun. Nonetheless the course is challenging and fun to play.
Not as good as remembered!
Greens were recently aerated…already figured putting was out the window! Course did provide notice in booking but still decided to play as I recall the course layout being a good challenge. Layout was as remembered and although greens having been aerated, the course conditions were still underwhelming. Overgrown fairways, unconditioned bunkers were quite a surprise for a course that boasts being one of the best in the area. “Normal” punched greens is one thing but there had to be a good inch of sand on most of the greens. I joked with my playing partner that I had not seen a sand rake/mat on a mower other than on a baseball field to smooth out the sandlot :)
Hoping that some time and tlc will bring course conditions back to being worthwhile the green fees
Disappointing
We were disappointed to find aerated greens. Very bumpy and extremely sandy. More then most courses this time of year.
Black Gold Awesome
Great course, great amenities. Awesome experience overall.
Good Course Maintenance around greens and fairways poor
I like the course and layout. but maintenance of fairways and areas around the greens was very poor.
Play was slow and we were waiting on every tee, at one point the group behind us played through without asking and then we had to wait for them as well as the group we were already waiting for and they thought nothing of us now waiting for them.
:(
Black Gold GC
Play here at least twice a month. Need to be in the fairway off the tee, or you will not make par. Fairways are okay for this time of year. The highlight are the greens....they are running true and fast. Local tip is try to stay below the hole to leave yourself an uphill put. Course is not too long but with tight fairways, and wind it can play difficult. I joined the Roughnecks program to offset the green fees (worth it if you like to play this course). Staff is always nice and accommodating. Only knock I have is that they need to have the marshal keep the POP. They are all very nice, but they need to tell the slower players to pick up the pace.
Poor condition
I paid a $150 for a course that looked like a dog track, the only saving grace was that the greens were in great shape. Minus the ball marks. For that price they didn’t even give you range balls you had to pay extra for them but I guess the locals get them for free. Did I mention I hate hitting off Mats also.
Save your money and play somewhere else. It’s a shame cause it’s a nice challenging layout but they need to care as much for the rest of the course as they do the greens.
Challenging
A really good challenge for the intermediate golfer wanting to have to improve. This course makes you work hard!
Double rainbow
It was though it was windy, cold and with the occasional shower. The big rain came on the 18th hole which we just decided we were not going to play. It was a good decision because it rained really heavy… we decided to have to eat there and guess what we saw outside. It was a double rainbow.!
