Black Gold Golf Club

About
Nestled in the foothills of Yorba Linda, Black Gold Golf Club sits on the site of a former Shell Oil Field. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, thought the location, with its dramatic elevation changes and panoramic views overlooking Orange County and Palm Beach, was the perfect place for a round of golf. On a clear day, the views stretch as far as the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The challenging layout is filled with narrow, rolling fairways and fast greens accented by thick patches of punishing rough. Due to the hilly terrain, a flat lie is hard to come by. The front nine requires accuracy and the back nine offers some particularly interesting risk-reward opportunities. Water hazards come into play throughout Black Gold Golf Club, most notably on the 18th. This par-5 finishing hole incorporates a cascading waterfall.

Beautiful scenery course
Nice staff/ good condition course / beautiful scenary every course / value for money
Way overrated overpriced course
Orange County pushes beyond the boundaries of fleecing you for golf. The course conditions are no different than most Southern California municipals at an exponential markup. The water restrictions are probably the same for most golf courses in California as I’ve never seen much difference between public courses. I don’t think the experience justifies the cost but it’s in a congested wealthier high demand area. They also only cater to local residents with included range balls. Two class system. I don’t think they want outsiders there.
GOLFNOW notification
Paid regular price, but there was no notification that the whole course was cartpath only, why pay regular rate to walk the whole course? None sense, golf now is never informed of any activity at courses, this will be my last year paying for golf pass
Always fun to play
Love the layout, generally good conditions and friendly staff. Pace wasn’t bad either. A little slower than normal but all good. Will be back
Great round in cold conditions
This is the second time I've played here and it was a lot nicer than the first time about 20 years ago. Course was in great condition and was much more challenging than I remember. Some nice properties line the course nestled up in the hills of Yorba Linda. Carts were nicer than most other public courses as well.
Course Layout
Challenging with (fairways and greens) too undulated. Not fun to play with too many obstacles/bunkers on some holes. But, I enjoyed viewing the housing community surrounding the golf course.
Tough track, greens in great condition
Black Gold is a tough layout. The greens were running 12 yesterday. 4 hour pace of play and friendly staff. Want to play again now that I know more of the course.
Great Course and Friendly staff.
This was one of the better courses I've played on. Greens are fast but over all great experience.
Fantastic
Visiting from the east coast and this was the first course our group played on our trip. We were all blown away. This is the quintessential California golf course - great layout, beautiful scenery, and some elevation change.
Good value for a twilight round with cart, complete with amazing views and a stunning California sunset. The back nine in particular is amazing - the holes/views just kept getting better as we moved along. Must play if you're in Southern California. Everything you could ask for in a public course.
