Nestled in the foothills of Yorba Linda, Black Gold Golf Club sits on the site of a former Shell Oil Field. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, thought the location, with its dramatic elevation changes and panoramic views overlooking Orange County and Palm Beach, was the perfect place for a round of golf. On a clear day, the views stretch as far as the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The challenging layout is filled with narrow, rolling fairways and fast greens accented by thick patches of punishing rough. Due to the hilly terrain, a flat lie is hard to come by. The front nine requires accuracy and the back nine offers some particularly interesting risk-reward opportunities. Water hazards come into play throughout Black Gold Golf Club, most notably on the 18th. This par-5 finishing hole incorporates a cascading waterfall.

Excellent Course

Course is amazing, play this course when your game needs to be tested, otherwise it will be a long day. Target golf at its best.

Several short holes but well guarded greens with bunkers, false fronts, and sloped so long irons have to hit the right spot to keep the ball on the green. Lots of OB in play and loud rattlesnakes in the bushes.

And then you have to putt ... difficult to read and putter must be on point to have any chance at scoring well.

The views are awesome, can see Disneyland, Angel Stadium, Honda Center and Knotts Berry Farm. Lined with fairly new homes.

Great course, and challenging. Saw the beverage cart 3 times on the course. Snack bar on the turn and the kitchen has great food. Pro Shop has everything you'll need. Carts had GPS, Ice chest, super comfy seats, USB charging outlets. Staff were friendly and very accommodating. Pace was a little slow, but acceptable. Will definitely come back.

Fun Round. Hot Day. Friendly Staff.

Got a good rate on GolfNow. Mid day mid week mid June.

All the course employees were cool. Which I've found to be the norm there. Cart guys, pro shop guy, starter & cart girl were all very nice. Didn't encounter a Marshall.

Course was in very good shape, tees through the greens. No complaints.

Pace was pretty good. Might've been a little quicker but it wasn't anything to complain about. 4.5 hours, maybe a hair more.

One thing that'd be nice to see, is another water source, maybe between 15 green and 16 tee. The round almost always hits a wall on the par 3, 16 tee, not a complaint, it just does though. And with the only water on the back being on tbe 14 tee on the back nine, and a long wait on 16, it'd be nice to have some water between 14 & 18. There is a bathroom between 16 & 17, but other than the sink didn't see any water fountain. Not a complaint. I could've and should've packed more water & the cart girl was around 3-4 times that day,

Always a fun course that you'll use every club in the bag on and I look forward to playing again soon.
