Shadow Lakes Club

About
Shadow Lakes Golf Club sprawls across rolling hills with Mount Diablo looming in the background. Dramatic elevation changes characterize the course, providing both challenges and scenic views of the East Bay Area. The undulations of the terrain range from subtle to dramatic and helped to determine the strategic placement of the sharply sculpted bunkers, of which there are many. The design of the golf course blends seamlessly with the existing landscape with swaths of native grasses outlining each hole and natural rocky outcroppings coming into play throughout. The course incorporates links-style characteristics as well as a variety of different challenges including water hazards and deep rough. One particularly memorable water hole is the par-4 16th. This is Shadow Lakes Golf Club's signature hole that features an island green that slopes in front, back into the water.

The bones of a nice track
Price was right so drove 40 minutes to check it out. I liked the angles and the elevation changes. The course has just not been attended to as it could have been. Bunkers are atrocious. Fairways have a lot of growth and therefore very little roll. Greens are in pretty good shape. It just left me wondering.. "What if they really wanted to make this a four star track?
I keep coming back
Been playing here for a few years and I come back for the terrain, great layout and challenging greens. I really like many of the holes that require a mix of strategy but are open enough to encourage long driving. The greens are often multi-tiered and require a careful look before putting, Greens and fairways are pretty well maintained. Tee boxes are OK, sand traps are hard dirt, and weirdly, some ball washers are missing or empty. Nevertheless, for the price, layout, and good pace of play, I can have a really enjoyable round of golf.
Great Deal
Course is still in great shape. Go play.
All Things Considered
The course conditions were overall fair. You could see areas that have not been attended to for a period of time (overgrown vegetation, no sand in some bunkers-hard as a rock, standing water in other bunkers, ants on the greens, massive bird droppings on and around 17th green). All things considered it was in better condition than expected.
Only for sunday
I played this course following a regular event that they hold every Saturday. The play was slow because the group ahead of us wasn't playing ready golf. It was so bad that half our foursome left the course after 15 holes. This course is only open on weekends and this event made for a miserable round.Thank you (not) Shadow Lakes for letting these types of golfers dominate your course on Saturday morning.
Bad Things are Coming
The course was in OK condition when I played it but in a month or two it looks like it will be terrible. The amount of play this course gets will beat up the fairways and it will look like the sahara come the end of summer. This course needs water but we are still in a drought. Have fun playing off the dirt.
very good greens but sand traps unplayable
I've not been there in a while but heard that the greens, which are critical to me for good golf, were in very good shape. They rolled near perfectly which is why I would go back. We took drops for sand shots in the unplayable green bunkers (1x) but played fine out of fairway bunkers. Staff inside was great as you sign up at the bar. Glad we played it!
this course have a nice view
This course is very relaxing easy to play wide fairways good for average players as well as for begginners.
Solid conditions!
shadow was in great shape! Greens were pure and the landing areas were nicely cut.
This course has some problems
First of all price was good, course is fun to play but,the bunkers were horrible, pure dirt. The brake didn't work very good on the cart,it wouldn't engage when I parked it.Greens were nice. They need a marshal to speed people up,every hole we waited.
Could be great
This is a fun course, that has some fast greens, some slow, 8 feet wide tee boxes, and some sadistic pin placements.
Great greens
Played at noon so pace was a bit slow, course was in great shape. Greens are great! Course is challenging.
Bang for your buck
Greens were perfect.lovethis course.ifugetachancetoplaythiscourseordeerridgeyoushould
Nice course
In good condition. The golf shop said to check in with the starter...but there wasn't any starter... kinda weird..groups just went out on there own....not a big deal, but strange.
6 hour rounds
If you like 6 hour rounds and tee times that start 45 minutes after the time that you booked. As well as carts that won't make it through the whole course and sand traps that are rock hard and don't require raking then I highly recommend this course. If you prefer a normal golf experience then this place isn't for you. I wouldn't play it again for free!!
Great value for a nice course
Reserved tee time using one of online booking and got a terrific deal. Played around noon on a weekday. Tee boxes were a bit used up from earlier play, but they were still in good condition. Fairways are in good shape although a few areas were too wet, probably from earlier rainfall. Greens are in good shape but with many ball marks left by previous players. As expected, grass was a bit long due to growth from last mowing. But overall, course is a pleasure to play! Kudos to the staff.
Key Part of Antioch/Brentwood golf Mecca
Shadow Lakes offers fun holes, made more difficult during blustery days. Clubhouse staff nice. Casual 19th hole setting. Has full driving range, unlike Deer Ridge. Lots of geese and their gifts. Get a deal to get great value.
Good course, great value, slooooow play
I like this course. It takes me 1.5 hours to drive here. But I still like it because of its great value and contra-traffic for me. I've experienced slow play couple times, but not that slow last time I played. It was more than 5.5 hours. I guess there are a lot high handicappers play here because of its cheap price. I am not against slow players, they need a place to play anyway. But if you are serious about your game, the playing path will kill your game. Tip to play well at this course: take a Yoga meditation class before you play here.
Great Course, beautiful water holes
Great course and facility.....bunkers need a lot of help... too much compacted sand....like hitting on bare dirt
