Shadow Lakes Club
About
Shadow Lakes Golf Club sprawls across rolling hills with Mount Diablo looming in the background. Dramatic elevation changes characterize the course, providing both challenges and scenic views of the East Bay Area. The undulations of the terrain range from subtle to dramatic and helped to determine the strategic placement of the sharply sculpted bunkers, of which there are many. The design of the golf course blends seamlessly with the existing landscape with swaths of native grasses outlining each hole and natural rocky outcroppings coming into play throughout. The course incorporates links-style characteristics as well as a variety of different challenges including water hazards and deep rough. One particularly memorable water hole is the par-4 16th. This is Shadow Lakes Golf Club's signature hole that features an island green that slopes in front, back into the water.

Slow
6 hours to play 18
No Marshall
Way to many people booked
Pace of play
I played yesterday with a friend of mine. The practice facility is good with grass tee boxes. We where delayed for our start time do to a tournament that was being played so slower play was to be expected. The young man told us that there was a delay but play should pick up once we tee off. Well it took us 3 hours to play 9 holes and just under 6 hours for 18. There where no marshals on the course at any time not even a the first tee. There was a group in front of us that had a young boy playing, hitting two or three balls at a time. This is definitely not a beginners course We had to call the club house twice to get someone out. It seem that the course was being run by teenage kids as there were no adults seen this on the course. There was no one in the club house after our round but there were two/ to 3 teenage kids in the parking lot with shadow lake attire on talking with friends. This course can be challenging with fast greens and wind but fair. your approach shots need to be hit to the right part of the greens or you will pay. It would be nice to sand in the SAND bunkers. good course that needs to be run a little more professionally. poor rating to staffing, pace of play
1st time playing
Greens: Excellent. Greens are receptive to iron shots. Nice green designs (some saddle greens, some double tier greens).
Greenside: Excellent. Tall grass greenside. Water greenside. Downsides are all the swan stuff and the sand in the bunkers are hard (but it is June so that is understandable).
Fairways: Excellent. Some fairway bunkers. Some water in play.
Tee boxes: Okay overall. Would be nice if they had fancier tee box markers but people might steal them. Right now they got these weird abnormal shaped rocks.
Staff: Excellent. Welcoming for our tournament.
Practice facility: Didn't see a chipping area. Small putting green. Range was good.
CHALLENGING COURSE
Course was in good shape
Greens were fast
Tee boxes, greens and fairways were kept up (some weeds).
Many holes offer elevated tee boxes
Plenty of water to go over or around
I would go back and play again
A lot of bunkers, (very little sand)
Shadow Lakes Last Game
Went to play a round with a few friends for one of their final weekend in California. He requested we play Shadow Lakes as his last course. We have played all over the state together and he loves this course. We had a great day, from the breakfast in the morning, to the final putt and a couple of adult beverages afterwards. The course is in pretty good condition and is a challenge in any tee location. I usually play from the Gold tees, but they wanted to play from Silver. I actually found it more challenging for me as I was familiar with the course from the Gold and found myself with a different look at each tee. It reminded me that you should play different tee locations at course you are familiar with, it will change your perspective and of the course...
Great deal
First time playing this course and was very impressed. Tee time was a single but paired with an single who was very informative of the course layout. The greens were rolling very nice and surprisingly quicker as the day went on. Can't wait to come back out and play
good day
I went out as a single on a Saturday morning. Everything was real good. I was paired up with some awesome people and the course was in great shape aside from a few fairways that had some dry spots and grassless areas. Greens r great, and tee boxes where perf!! Only down of the day was the group ahead of us. They where obviously poor golfers, who had a very low skill level. They where side to side and on ball hunts all morning. We ended up with a round just short of 6 hours. Having a Marshall or two to keep the pace up would b great. Aside from that, perfect day!
Greens are rolling very well
The course is playing well right now. The bunkers need more attention but, overall it's in good shape
The Course is an excellent condition.
I only got to play 10 Holes because started to rain pretty hard . I will share with you that besides the people in front of us being slow! I had an excellent time playing with the group I was with. Iust not forget that when I was checking in the club did not had all my check in information, however when I showed my information to the person they took care of me without a problem.
Thank you
Miguel
Johnnie P. Course Marshall is extremely helpful, friendly and very professional
I have had a fantastic experience every time I play this course, due to course conditions and extremely helpful and friendly staff.
Love the course, views and the people!
My friends and I play here at least once a week and always enjoy our day! The staff is friendly and ready to help, quick to go the extra mile for you too. Today, Jonnie P. and KJ met us as we parked with carts for us and loaded on our bags!
Great couse water and hills
I like this course and live nearby. This day was so
windy it was hard to stand on the tees. oh weell.
Shadow Lakes Review
The course played well, steady pace for a Sunday,
about 4.5 hours.
Conditions were good for California drought, greens
were fast but readable.
We played as threesome, joining a single, and I
was overall quite happy with the conditions & the
pace.

Great course
Course is in great shape , greens are smooth and simi fast . Scenery is off the charts and very fun to play . Food service is awesome and staff is very friendly .
Good Value Except
Course is in decent conditions. Greens are good. Pace of play was decent, 4 hours midday, with minimal waits at most tees. Would've been pleasant had it not been for a jerk who began yelling that we were playing too slow. We offered to let him take a look at the groups ahead of us and why we were waiting but he became very violent and kept yelling at us. I'm no beginner and the pace of play was not bad. We played 18 holes in 4 hours despite the brief waits. This guy was a real winner!!! Problem was there were no Marshall's on the course to police this guy's actions. So 13 of 18 holes were good, the last 5 holes became awkward!! My advice, don't play in front of this jerk!!
Shadow Lakes is much improved
Shadow Lakes is in the best condition that I have seen it in in a long time; very green and well taken care of. The greens were aerated quite a few weeks ago and have came back pretty fast, I was impressed. After our just under 4 hour round we went to the 19th Hole for drinks and appetizers, and were extremely satisfied with the great customer service and our food was excellent. Shadow Lakes is my favorite course in the East Bay, a must play course.
tough track but fun
Hadn't played here in a while. I forgot how much break these greens have. They had a great price for Sunday afternoon can't beat it.
Great Day for Golf.
Course is in great shape, green all around. Greens were incredible. Staff was very welcoming. Can't wait to play at Shadow Lakes again. They have turned it around.
