Nestled at the base of Mount Diablo, Deer Ridge Golf Club wanders through rolling, oak-dappled hills. The course has several challenging holes but the hazards are balanced by more player-friendly elements like wide, forgiving fairways and generous greens. There is also plenty of room off the tees and at just over 6,300 yards it is a manageable length as well. Though it is gentle enough for beginners, the thoughtful routing and hilly terrain keep it interesting for low handicappers. Deer Ridge Golf Club's front nine is more open and slightly less difficult, but the back nine gets a little trickier with more trees and more dramatic elevation changes coming into play. The terrain gives each hole a unique character and different challenges. The wind can also be a major factor. Good course management will be well rewarded.

Friendly Enough Staff, Not well managed
I honestly hate to be negative in a review but sometimes negative feedback can help management know where to make some changes so hopefully this is not taken as mean spirited because that is not my intent. The greens were hot or miss, understand they need to be aerated but some of the greens were just patchy bumpy. All of the bathrooms were locked on the course. The snack shop/grill was closed when we came around the turn around 9am. Some areas that should have been cut back were left to grow and weeds were a bit out of control. Mind you if this was a 35 dollar course, I wouldn’t have much to complain about. But for 50 bucks I expect a little better. Still, 50 on a Saturday morning would be a decent price if the greens were in better shape, bathrooms were open, and I could order a breakfast sandwich and a Bloody Mary at the turn. Again, staff was polite so always appreciate that. This course can be better but until word gets around that it’s back on track, gotta move this course down the list a bit.
Disappointed
Deer Ridge is in great shape. The greens are rolling pretty good. You can make putts with a good stroke.
Deer Ridge management is very generous letting the golf teams from the local high schools to play matches and play on weekends at a reduced price.
We played this past weekend and wanted to play more. There was no one out playing in the afternoon so we wanted to play more. Replay rate was a little high. We asked for a break since we payed full price earlier.
The person in the clubhouse would not budge so we left and played alone Tree for less than the replay rate.
They had not players. Not sure why they let us walk?

This course has gone downhill
The pace of play is ridiculous. This has happened on numerous occasions. Almost 2hrs to play 6 holes on a weekday. Greens aren’t good but not horrible. Fairways are manageable but not great. But the pace of play is just outright ridiculous

Cart Path Only?
A beautiful sunny day after all the rain we had. Course conditions were very good, greens were in good shape as the 2 different grasses start the Spring growth season. Not really sure why it was cart path only as on most holes the fairways were quite firm and could have easily taken cart traffic. I will definitely return for more golf.

Good Layout
Good amateur course with varying holes in terms of slope and distance. Handles rain well in the fairways and rough. Currently greens are not good - splotches and bumps....traps suffering from runoff and lack of fresh sand....normal winter issues for local public courses.

Good Overall
When checking in, was told they would let us know when a cart was available. No golf carts?? Borrowed one from a group finishing their round. Switched to another cart at the turn. Greens were a mess, so bumpy we invoked a two putt rule. Fairways were great. Bunkers were okay, looked like they were replenishing the sand in many. For the cost, I would come back and play again.

Condition of greens
Greens were very bumpy. It appeared like there were different types of grass in sections on the greens.

Bad Greens
Course was flooded. 5 hour round on a weekday and greens were absolutely terrible.

Slow and bumpy
First time here. My buddy wanted to play here. I have to say the greens were very bumpy with different colors or grass of different lengths. Some fairways were very bad condition. We quit out early due to the slow play in front of us 15 holes took us 4 hours. I liked the layout but nothing worth making me drive an hour to go back.
