del Lago Golf Club
About
del Lago Golf Club sits at an elevation of 3,400 feet, enjoying a temperature that is five degrees cooler than Tucson in the summer, which makes a big difference under the hot Arizona sun. Winding through the hills and valleys of the high desert, the golf course features over 120 feet of elevation changes that present tricky uneven lies. The dramatic undulations also offer beautiful views of the Rincon and Santa Catalinas Mountain ranges. Golfers start at the highest point on the course and then play down into the valley before getting to the back nine, which plays along the Pantano Wash. The first hole is the only forced carry on the course, the remaining holes are friendlier off the tees. Seven lakes dot the golf course, coming into play on six holes, and there is also heavy bunkering around the greens.

Poor Player Consideration
Green fee was prepaid thru GolfNow. Last nights weather report stated "breezy" wind conditions, However upon arrival at the course today, the WINDS were howling at what appeared 35-40 mph, or higher. Considered cancelling, but with my prepaid green fee, I didn't have time and/or access to GolfNow to cancel, so I checked in at the pro shop. I paid for a bag of range balls and moved on to the driving range. Tried to hit some warm up short irons, but the wind was challenging my stance, swing, and interest. The wind was blowing so hard that clubs and stands were being knocked over and head covers were blowing down the range. Decided to limit hitting balls and move to the putting green. Same problem as putts being adversely affected by the wind, and balls actually moving around when supposedly sitting on green. Then decided that was enough, and went to the pro shop to see if I could get a credit slip for my prepaid time so I could return when there were less weather/wind conditions. This request was denied with little concern for the issues involved. So I retired my interest in golf at del Lago GC for this day and possible for the foreseeable future. Having played del Lago GC many times, this was a regretable experiience..
Fun!
Course is a lot of fun! They recently got new golf carts which are very nice!
The bunkers need sand…bad.
A lot of golfers don’t aren’t to follow the rules about where to drive the carts, and thus some of the fairways are beat pretty bad. Some of the fairways could use some TLC and water.
Not going again
Play was extremely slow. The fairways were about average. The greens were about average but they were inconsistent speed. Rough, cart paths and fairway bunkers were poor.
Outstanding!
What a terrific course! The fairways and greens were in great shape and the layout is wonderful. We really enjoyed the variety of fairways, approaches, and greens - challenging, but not unmanageable for the average golfer. There were elevated tees that provided stunning views, and the bird life was remarkable. We also appreciated the presence of the players’ assistant on the course. We will definitely be back.
Beautiful Course
Played this course with my wife. First time we had played the course (on vacation). Although a bit windy, a very challenging beautiful course. Will definitely play it again whenever we are back this way. Definitely recommend.
Girlfriend’s 2nd Time Golfing - NEW GOLF CARTS!
So, I’m a beginner golfer myself, and I’ve been told this course is hard due to how narrow it can be, this was my girlfriend’s 2nd time ever playing the course. We had a blast! Yes, it was challenging starting off, but by hole four we were really enjoying ourselves.
The fairways are nice and pretty green, and the greens were smooth and provided a challenge. I wish the bunkers / sand traps actually had sand - they are really just rocks/pebbles.
The golf carts were brand new, which was an added little bonus. Finally, the cart girl made her way by our group at least three times? Super friendly staff - and will ply again!
Course has been neglected
The course shows numerous signs of extended neglect. The cart paths are completely falling apart. The asphalt is full of holes and extremely rough. We spent most of the time driving in the rough or fairways to avoid the paths. The bunkers contain a little dirt (no sand) and way too many rocks. They are not really playable. There’s an extreme amount of cut brush and trees piled everywhere on the edges of the holes. The edges of the tee boxes and bunkers have weeds everywhere. The course management seems to think cutting brush is the most important maintenance item. There are almost no penalty area markings that you normally see on most golf courses. When you enter the clubhouse one is hit a very strong sewer smell. Bottom line. “Don’t waste your money or time playing this course”. There are many better golf options in the Tucson area.
Poor del Lago
I love this course. Unfortunately it is showing sign of age and neglect. A lot of the neglect comes from the caliber of payers too. So many times I see players not having good course etiquette. "Respect the course and help Take Care of the Course". Tearing up the fairways , not driving where the should. Par 3's with cart path only. And they won't observe it. They need marshaling Bad.
The course it shelve need some major upgrades. Cart Paths especially. When you let a course run down. The caliber of players don't care either. The better courses in Tucson, restrict the payers entry from the tee boxes to the fairways. del Lago is the wild west drive the carts anywhere you like. del Lago needs to put up ropes and barriers to preserve the course. Here is the two yr. Plan. Shut down one side (9) holes. Do an overlay of fresh asphalt. Put in cart barriers for the fairways. Put in more Trash cans . Some jerks won't use them anyway, throw their beers cans in the bushes. Next year do the same for the other 9 holes. It gets enough play, they just need to put money back in it.
Pace of play
The course was in great shape. Played on the weekend and the pace of play was slow. A marshal would have been nice to see out on the course. But still had a wonderful time.
Good Average course
The course is starting to show it's age. The bunkers have always been bad. They said they just upgraded>>>all they did was to put more sand on top of the rocks.
They did a fairly good job of over seeding. There's still a lot of fairways that are in demise. Greens were in good shape.
Just getting old and need some major financial improvements. But all in all, fun track to play
A friendly practice round
Played with a friend prior to a group outing. Course was in excellent shape and staff is alwayd super friendly. Understand that periodic mowing after a very successful overseed will make the fairways and greens that much more quicker! It's a challenging track and lots of opportunities to test your golf game.
